Spike knows how to make an entrance. They give me Joker and Harley Quinn energy. I love that they walked in, took nothing seriously, wiped the vamp cult and moved in.
I'm so glad you understood what happened to the kid at the end, I've seen so many other reactor's be like "what happened to him?" Like, what else would happen to a vampire being put in the sun? lmao
Not a lot of people get the title of this episode “school hard” is a play on “Die Hard” because in Die Hard the building is held hostage and a lone vigilante crawls through the vents taking them out one by one.
Dru is played by Juliet Landau, daughter of the acclaimed actor Martin Landau. Martin has been in some of the greatest, most prolific films ever made since 1959 until his death in 2017.
It's crazy, I'm french and so I saw the episodes first in my language. The translation when Buffy speaks to Snyder when he missed his mother, she says in english that it's because her mother doesn't speak english, so when in french, Buffy responds that it's because she's feeling bad comfortable with small people!
James Marsters was actually 37 or 38 when he started playing Spike, but he did look very young. Spike is a fun villain. I also really like Juliet Landau as Drusilla. Juliet is the daughter of Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, who starred together in the 1960s hit series, “Mission Impossible.” In addition to being a vampire, Drusilla also has second sight.
One of the cleverest writing moments in this episode is when Xander is looking through Buffys bag and find a tampon. It seems like an insignificant joke. But later on Spike says “I smell the blood of a nice ripe girl”. Signifying that Buffy is on her period. I don’t understand the point per se. But it’s still a cool little bit of continuity
The Anointed One was intended to be the 'big bad' in season 2, but the boy playing him was clearly growing and getting older, which he wouldn't do as an undead, this is why he is often sitting. They had to bring in Spike instead. Juliet Landau is the daughter of Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, who appeared together in 'Space: 1999' a Science Fiction series from the 1970s. Juliet looks very much like her mother at the same age and is very glamorous. Dru is utterly loopy and Juliet plays her very well.
"Plus, we haven't burned down this school." Well...the old science lab where they were trying to make the "bride of Frankenstein" ie a monster to be the girlfriend of the monster that was Daryl, former running back, was in fact on this school campus, and was indeed on fire when we last saw it, pretty sure it burned down, so for Buffy, that's her second burned school building, one in LA and one right here in Sunnydale! That's why Buffy tells Sheila something like "twice, actually," Buffy is really bad at making up lies. 🤣 I don't ever recall a parent-teacher conference. I was an A student, Honor Society, all that jazz, no real issues to discuss...
One of the most iconic scenes in the whole show when Spike ( one of the greatest characters in The Buffyverse ) rolls into town and drives right over the Sunnydale sign. School Hard is one of the greatest episodes of S2. James Marsters was so impressive in the role, he became an instant fan favourite. Some great writing in this episode, when Xander goes to get Buffy's bag and pulls out a yoyo, tampon and then stake, this shows Buffy from child, to teenager, to adolescent showing how she is growing up. Great too when Joyce clobbers Spike on the head with the axe. All in all a great episode for early S2 with Angel/Spike/Drusilla who have a shared history through the centuries to add to the arc of the Season.
Fun reaction! Love the Spike and Dru has arrived, both will elevate the show. Such a terrific episode, Buffy takes inspiration this time from Die Hard.
Finally, a “reactor” who recognises the obvious, namely, that one of the meanings of sire is teacher/mentor. This means, as you note, that Angel is to Spide as the Yoda dude is to Fluke.
Another great reaction video. Love this season of Buffy. One of my favourites. Spike is one of my favourites characters also. Get ready for some ups and downs for this season
The actor who played the Annointed One had a growth spurt between seasons (which is why you mostly see him sitting down) and I guess Joss Whedon realized that he wanted to go in another direction with this season anyway. So the Anointed One kissed sunlight. You know Spike sticks around a while, so it won't be spoiler to say that that was not supposed to be the case. I'll leave it at that. I just wanted to let you know that everyone involved with the show was unprepared for just how popular the character would prove to be.
Yep, the Slayers are always girls, typically in their teens, and few make it past 18. Most don't have friends and allies, just their Watcher. Spike - one of the few vampires smart enough to run away when a fight goes against them, rather than sticking around to get dusted. 🤷♂️
you've seen james marsters in other stuff.for us in the uk watching buffy for the first time this was the first time we saw him. i've seen him in smallville and torchwood the adult spin off of dr who since buffy. a great enterance.a look and sound based on billy idol. did you get what spike meant about angelus being his sire/yoda?
@chanceshouseofhorror6053 well you're a bit ahead of us that aren't patrons so you might have got more of an explanation? He was an alien in both shows. In Torchwood he knows captain jack from the past so you get a bit of a background. Torchwood is worth a watch.although the first series isn't as good as the others. Part cause setting up characters, part budget a seeming lack of faith that it would work from the TV company. Last series is a Brit,US joint story.
Worst parent teacher conference: my mom had a crush on my remedial math teacher who was the cliché football coach that picked on/bullied any student that wasn't a "preppy" (i'm not exaggerating but thats the only way I can think to put it and get the message across).
Unfortunately, you cut out one of the most important scenes, the police detective says, what should we say, the usual? Gang related? PCP?, and Snyder says, what do you want to tell them, the truth? I'm not sure why you skipped that revelation...that might be one of the most important nuggets we've gotten so far.
You're a rather perceptive, smart reactor. I appreciate that. I like the compact TH-cam format of your reactions. Just wish your afterthoughts were a bit longer. I don't need a long monolog, but at least 5 minutes per episode would be nice.
Spike and Dru have entered the chat!

LOL
Yes! It always makes me laugh a little, it’s surprising how many reactors are confused about that
Drusilla is one of my favorite characters
Buffy - "Here have some lemonade!"
Willow shakes her head.
🤣🤣🤣
And I love when Willow later suggests Cordella have some lemonade. 😂
oh i wish i could have seen your reaction to snyder saying "usual story G related pcp"

"Buffy hasn't burned down this school."
That was a school building burning at the end of Some Assembly Required.
But did it die? lol
and she has burned down the gym at her previous school, that's why 'it wasn't one time'.

Dru is definitely more than just a vampire. Slayers are usually called young, and most don't get much older.

Spike and Drusilla!!!
We are still waiting on your reaction to uploading your own Buffy videos on your channel.

did you get what spike meant about angelus being his sire/yoda?
I never did get to watch Smallville or Torchwood but hope to one day! Also yeah I understood what he meant.

All I’m going to say is keep in mind the vampiric familial bloodline that is slowly unfolding
yesss so excited, one of my favorite characters has made his appearance
a star was born... two, if we count drusilla too! 🤩
You're going to love Spike.

I didn't react to that comment during my reaction because I was processing many things at once lol. I did catch that though thank you!
Spike is here baby! Love hottie Spike and beautiful Drucilla!
Glad you enjoyed this episode! It's a really good one.

Thank you! I'm trying to get better and sharing more of my thoughts at the end so hopefully they will get longer as we go on.
I'll do your slayer for you.
I believe you, man and believe in your doing abilities 🙃
School Hard =Die Hard. Great job....
Just took a hit!
❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍
Spike - ew! but Dru - yay!!!
Not a student of Angel. They both were turned into vampires by Angel. He is their sire.
Spike is great. Kinda dislike Dru very much. She is a lot for me to take 😂
