Hi there, what a great trip back through memory lane. And yes, I did have in 1986 the original version of this great Tamiya car. I was 15, having had my first ever Tamiya, the Hornet, which I modded with parts from the Fox. Well, my friend and I saved and saved our paper money like made for 2 years and purchased one of these beasties. It had the mechanical speed control, 8.4v NiCd battery pack, technic plus radio gear and of course that Technigold motor. Oh boy I wish i never gave it to my younger brother, who trashed it! If on,y I could get my hands on a re-release version, I would certainly be a very happy 50 odd man now! 😉😊😉
That's a great story, thanks for sharing! I'm sure you'll find a BigWig out there if you keep your eyes peeled, they do come up for sale on occasion. It would be great to relive some of those moments you had as a young man driving it! 😎
Another excellent video from Poorboysrc! Great to see you bud. That Bigpig brings back memories from working at the hobby shop back in the 80's. Decols! Hahaha 🤣
Great video! I still have my vintage one that I just restored to running condition last year. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the technigold motor but I replaced it with a similar in RPM Tamiya SS RZ motor. With the 8.4v NIMH it moves pretty good. It is slightly more sluggish in turn in compared to my Hotshot but not bad. Overall it's a fun car to drive. It can't compare to other contemporaries like the Javelin and such but Tamiya at the time was about the car's personality and scale and this car delivered in spades. Love your channel, keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Pete! I agree, a Technigold powering the buggy would be sweet, but they are hard to come by and big bucks! I bet the SS RZ gets it going well! Cheers pal! 🍻
@@derricksazrc3411 no crazy pills buddy, it's all new! I'm using a new, fun editing program. That really let's me get creative with my editing. I'm loving it!
Didn’t know much about the Bigwig so thanks for this video! Love that it was based on those Pike Peak cars 😎 Also that this was designed to take the 7 cell NiCad batteries for that extra fizz! I need to try one of the modern 7 cell NIMH packs to see how they go (no LiPo at the OAG) Great video and I love these throwback series dude 👍🏻🙌🏻
Thanks for this informative and competent video. There were a few things I didn't know myself. Unfortunately I missed the ReRe of 2017 an now it is not available anymore. Hopefully Tamiya will release it again (for me) because I like this car so much and there are so much much good memories about it. Of course I never had one myself, but the catalog page back then was one of my favourites.
Thanks Simon! I'm working with a new video editing program that I'm really enjoying. Only problem is, I like it so much it's taking hours to make a short video. 🤣 But I love doing it and I love all the great feedback. Thanks again for all the support!
Agreed 100%, my friend! -- I know it was the first buggy they designed to run 8.4v, but not sure if it was the last. I can't think of another buggy (or truck) that was specifically designed for 8.4v. 🤔
Blockhead Motors made up! Tell that to Jun Watanabe who owns Blockhead Motors and gave permission to Tamiya to copy his wild one colour scheme and name.
I didn't realize Jun had a legit motors company. I researched the name, Blockhead Motors and while I did find he had some BHM branded gear, I couldn't find anything race-related. I need to dig deeper apparently! 😎
The Big Wig is an Awesome Classic from Tamiya 😎👍🏻
One of my favorites to run on the beach, looks so great out there! 😎

Interesting video👌
Thanks for sharing your video 👍🦘🇦🇺
Thanks for watching, mate! 👊
Hey ,hey. Great video , now you have me looking at what decals I put on mine. :) The big "pig" . I like that. New into was cool!
Thanks Paul! 👊
Very cool vid!!! I always liked the Big Wig.👍👍👍
Thanks bro! 👊
I think block head may be a legit company. Great vid though man
They probably are, when I Googled them I couldn't actually tell if they were legit or not, lol! 🤣
@@poorboysrc it's Jun Watanabe's company I think
@@leehurst6922 I looked him up, saw the association between Jun and Blockhead but couldn't find much more than that. I'll keep digging!
So glad to have grown up in the 80's as a young lad. Great video and good info on the BigWig 👍🏼 I like the 80's hue on the video, great editing.
Thanks pal! 👊
Cool 80's buggy! I've just revived mine
That's awesome, Jenny! Hope you enjoy running it! 😎

Man I love this nostalgia. So much info. Good to see you Brother.
Hey buddy, love the new logo! 😎
@@poorboysrc Thanks my Homegirl that made the coloring books made it for me along with my watermark on the bottom right of my videos.
I really like All your stuff Bro especially that beginning on the throwback intro is that new or ami taking crazy pills lol

It's funny, the chassis looks massive, being designed for a 7-cell. Thanks for watching! 🤙
Great content coverage and video style as usual! I've really come around the look and feel of this classic, pure 80's style buggy. 👍

The BigWig really owns the front page of the Tamiya guide book! Looks so good up there! 😎
Great job, worth the wait, I can imagine how much work this would have taken.

Have a ReRe. Love the look, it’s iconic. Hate the steering. For the life of me I cannot get it to work properly.
Yeah it's not the most precise steering out there, that's for sure! I found having a strong servo (25kg) really helps!
This is one of the all-time Tamiya classic buggies. Was this the only Tamiya car designed for the 8.4V battery pack?
Agreed 100%, my friend! -- I know it was the first buggy they designed to run 8.4v, but not sure if it was the last. I can't think of another buggy (or truck) that was specifically designed for 8.4v. 🤔
@@poorboysrc This buggy was ahead of its time!
@@BlackSeaRC agreed! The styling was very much a modern approach to a race buggy of the day.
Did the original not have reference to mooncraft also? 🤔
The original wing decal was a big Dick Cepek logo.
@@poorboysrc yeah it was cool but I still think mooncraft was mentioned somewhere 👍
Interesting... I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled next time I see an O.G. BigWig.
Think they were mooncraft wheels
@@leehurst6922 just googled it and saw some, you're right, it's the Moon Craft decal on the wheel. Pretty cool stuff! 😎
I built my re re bigwig a few weeks ago and love it,but i put the dick cepek on the wing as it looks a lot better than that mooncraft decal.
That's the beauty of the hobby, build it the way you like it! 👍
