- On April 6, 2024, AMTK 167 sporting the new Phase VII livery, led the eastbound Southwest Chief back toward Chicago. It passed through Bernalillo, New Mexico, on Amtrak 3 a few days before and we were excited to see it again on Amtrak 4.
Running late, it had to wait in Bernalillo for Amtrak 3 to pass and then it was given the high green to proceed. In northern New Mexico, a brake problem on the locomotive required it to be set out on the siding at Fox.
A few days later an extra P-42 was dispatched on the Southwest Chief, set out in Albuquerque, and then ran as light power to the Fox siding and returned with 167 in tow. Back in Albuquerque, an idler axle was installed on the locomotive so that it could be transported back to Los Angeles. Due to concerns about deadheading the locomotive with an idler axle on one of the regular Amtrak passenger trains, the engine waits in the Albuquerque yard to be transported by BNSF. We caught it in the yard on April 26, 2024, having to photograph it through two protective fences.
Dude! Without you, we would certainly be missing a lot of local action. Thanks for taking the time and effort to cover the local scene!
Thank you. Gets me out of the house!
Awesome capture and beautiful locomotive. Always bad when problems happen.👍
Thanks, Dom. This one has been particularly inconvenient.
Thank you for the update. I was beginning to wonder myself where it was. I knew it was setout somewhere but wasn't sure where exactly.
You're welcome. It was a bit of a mystery to me for while.
An unparalleled train presentation video 👍
Thank you very much!
Nice catch!
Thanks!
Well good news, it's back in service once again on the Chief.
Yes, and we caught it on it's return trip!
Great catch.
Thanks!
Hello Thomas, the two Amtrak trains were beautifully filmed. The 167 diesel locomotive has a fantastic design. Was this to mark Amtrak's 50th anniversary? Thanks for sharing and have a nice Sunday. Warm greetings to New Mexico. wolfgang
Thank you, Wolfgang! This is the new livery that Amtrak is using, not one to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Backing up to go get it up there? I'd hate to have to be that engineer... Ouch.
I can't even imagine!
Szép videó!😀👍
Thank you, Ferenc!
