A solenoid is a type of electromagnet when the purpose is to generate a controlled magnetic field. If the purpose of the solenoid is instead to impede changes in the electric current, a solenoid can be more specifically classified as an inductor rather than an electromagnet.
Things needed to Make Solenoid Engine
ACP sheet or fibre sheet - small pieces
    Fibre reeper pieces
    Fisher plugs
    Screws 1.5”-2nos, 3/4” -4nos
Magnet wire or insulated copper wire- 26 gauge- 30mtrs
    Syringe- 2nos
copper wire or GI rod- Guage 12- 30 cm
    Copper wire- Guage 18- 30cm
    Cylindrical Magnets
    Wood wheel
Tools needed to Make Solenoid Engine
    Angle Grinder
    Drilling machine
6mm drill bit, 4mm drill bit
    Cigar lighter
    Screwdriver
    Player
    How to Make Solenoid Engine
Step 1: Making of Solenoid Cylinder
First of all Cut two Similar Pieces of ACP or fibre sheet.
And mark Syringe dia on the sheet. Then Remove unwanted Part.
Now cut 2” length from a cylinder part of a syringe. Fix the Syringe piece on the sheet.
Now is the time to wind the 26 gauge copper wire on the syringe piece.
Wind magnet wire tightly. Minimum turns 60, maximum: as much as possible.
The more you wind magnet wire, your engine will perform faster and powerful.
    Make necessary holes. Watch Video.

Hey there! Great project! I'm trying to execute it for college, but mine is not working. I've used an old laptop charger as well, gauge copper wires and everything. I believe the problem is the magnets: I've used computer HD ones. What do you think? Apart from that everyhting is exactly like you did.

Great concept. But making the connecting rod-piston junction flexible enough is critically important. What is the highest RPM that you have been able to generate?

    • @newphysicist
      @newphysicist  7 ปีที่แล้ว

+Angshuman Pal, thank you. It would be between 150-250. But not yet tried to measure. However, its possible to increase the speed by increasing voltage and solenoid turns.
It won't start automatically. Add one more cylinder. That's 3-cylinder solenoid engine will start automatically and it would have higher rpm.

+uday kumar, change polarity of magnets.
Make sure, slip contact is flexible enough for free rotation of crankshaft.

if i want to make magnets not to contact with cylinder walls what should i do, because i made it with neodymuim magnets but there is friction, can i do that

+ansary hameed , glad to know you are making a solenoid engine. That too using neodymium magnets. If you are using a syringe for cylinder, friction would be negligible. Don't bothered about it. Neodymium magnets are powerful enough to overcome this.
Try some lubricant between two surfaces. There should not be a large lap between magnet and cylinder.
Make 3 cylinder solenoid engine instead of two. It'll start automatically.
Regards. Let me know once you are done.
