The a340-500 is the first ultra long range aircraft made by airbus in 1997 and entered service in 2002. Emirates became the launch costumer of the aircraft after Air Canada filed for bankruptcy protection. Emirates would operate 10 a340-500 and 8 a340-300. These aircraft would all be retired in 2016 along with the a330-200 after the 777 family aircraft replaced them since it burned less fuel. During its time the a340-500 accomplished many goals with Emirates including being used for its inaugural flight to JFK and being the first aircraft in Emirates fleet to have suites. Overall the a340-500 was an incredible aircraft and will be remembered in the Emirates fleet.
