In this weeks video we head back up to Newcastle to visit WB & Sons classic car auction. We have previously attended this auction several times and always find ourselves wanting to travel the four hours up north to check out their sales! This time the star car for me was the Peugeot 309 GTI, although this was an auto and didn't sell but still a rare sight to see in 2023. I was also happy to see a Mk1 and Mk2 fiesta in the catalog, with the Mk1 fiesta fetching nearly £6,000, the Italian import defiantly raised a few eyebrows! The Mk2 fiesta did not sell but I explain a few reasons why I thought it didn't in the outro of this video.
Me and Lauren also purchased our first auction vehicle at this sale but you'll have to wait until the next video to find out what we purchased!

The reason the 309GTi didn't sell could have been the auto gearbox. It didn't make sense to me right up until the moment you said about it having Japanese writing and the penny dropped. I didn't know the 309GTi came with an auto but the Japanese love an auto , so its an import and that's the reason. I really enjoy your auction videos, they're so well made.
It all makes sense now! I’m sure someone will convert it to manual 😁
@@Mk2Mitch You know, I'd leave it as an auto, it's quite a novelty, parts will be a nightmare but still tho, a conversion won't be cheap. I suppose it depends on what you want.

Agreed mate, I’m pretty certain they didn’t do an auto over here either. That box and the roof killed it stone dead I’m afraid. Condition looked lovely. 👌

The mk3/4 escorts common rust areas are those shown by you Mitch. Battery tray, wheel arches, bottom of doors, chassis leg. I think they came like that from factory tbh. Liking the variety of cars and the format is perfect if not way too short at a mere 18 minutes. Looks like someone has a need increase his garage but what with?
I wish the video was longer too but we didn’t have a lot of time before this auction started so we were trying to record as many cars as possible!
That mk1 fiesta with the brown interior reminds me of my dad's,when I was a kid.Except his was yellow.Would of been all over it,looked a beaut.
In think the automatic trans probably killed the gti's appeal.I wouldn't be looking at anything with an automatic, if I was buying a classic.Especially something that's supposed to be sporty!

Cheers mate, yes that was a automatic and lots of people are saying they’ve never seen a 309 GTI auto so must be rare! Not sure if it would be as sort after tho 👍🏻
@Mk2Mitch definitely not mate the manual was rapid the only car I didn't buy in the day as worried the wife wouldn't be able to handle it. It was a beast in its day along with the Renault 5 GT Turbo, Astra GTI 16V, and of course the 205 1.9 GTI. All the car companies competed against each other with fury. Guide prices seemed spot on. Saw a sneaky 205 gti, they are getting more collectible, the Clio is a sold buy too. I bet you bought the escort van😮

Hi Mitch love your vlogs, do you know if the red tractor was a Porsche and if so what model and what price did it make. I do love classic cars but I have also got a few old tractors. Was surprised to see it there. Keep up the good work 👍

When I saw that auto stick in the 309 and the condition I thought it must be a Japanese import, I think the auto box kills it tbh, but they're not as popular as the 205 anyway, even though they're arguably the better car

i watch the videos and despair at whats been walked past before.If you are bit "brand blind" you will fall into that trap.when salvage rebuilds do auction videos robs the same and chris tries his best to reign him in and talkabout a lesser known model/make of car.i just skip the bins from dagenham largely.
Hi pal, I am trying my best to record other cars and not just the blue ovals! At the next auctions I will try to record lots of different makes and models for everyone to enjoy. I may be ‘brand blind’ but it’s something I’m trying to improve on 😁

Escort looks nice, but its non original, its been messed around with.
When your paying good money for a classic Ford, originality is everything, the same with classic Minis from the 60s, only original specc cars are achieving record prices.
I agree to some extent but that escort had been ‘upgraded’ to RS2000 parts. Admittedly not genuine but still much better than a chavved up rotbox!
Yeah the 309gti would deffo had been bid on/sold if it was manwell - perhaps could convert it? For me the Clio Williams was the star car! Thanks for all your work Mich and see you again soon.😉

Yes of course! I am trying to record and variety of cars (even though this video did include a lot of fords). I will try to find some other makes and models at the next auction I attend 👍🏻

The Corsair was provisional, you should make that clear
It was provisional but it sold. If the car goes provisional and doesn’t sell I make that clear by putting ‘did not sell’. 👍🏻 If the owner/buyer agree on a price, I put the final sold for price 👍🏻 Hence why the Corsair had a sold for price, because it sold…

smashing it Mitch - Steering wheel wear is always a good indicator of Mileage - that mk1 fiesta looks a genuine mileage motor , when you compare it to the mk2 , suprised the mk4 estate didnt attract a cheeky bid
I agree, the Mk1 fiesta was in great condition! The Mk4 escort estate was lovely but not sure it’s worth £4-6k..😅
Was a good auction i had a walk around, The Merc jeep was a good buy for some one with a new engine in it. My M8 had a 309 GTI when we were younger and t was the best Hot hatch that he had out of a few that he had , There is only 200 left on the road

I was meant to look around that as I’ve not seen many before but we were very pushed for time before the auction started! It sold for £16,895 👍🏻

I did have a quick look around the P100 myself! Unfortunately we were very tight on time for this auction and only had a hour or so to record the lots! 👍🏻
