I think it’s good that it’s in one ear so you can focus on your surroundings with the other, or if someone calls you you’ll hear them. Sometimes when I have both headphones in I feel less focused and more floaty from the music, but when I don’t have music playing at all I’ll fixate too much on every little noise I hear. While at first it bothered me a little bit, I got used to it.
Thank you so much for making this recording, leva! My students and I are honored that you granted our request and recorded the Dowland. Everyone in my classes really enjoyed this performance, and we look forward to listening to more of your music in the future!
I absolutely love this!! This is very peaceful sounding and relaxing! I have already listened multiple times since the first time I heard it a couple of months ago. Every time I revisit this, I feel like I notice something new.
What drive, what decision! Ms Baltmiskyte, you play as if you were John Dowland's lover, had heard him while he hummed and composed this piece, and you knew it by heart only as his lover would. Thank you for your love . . . of the guitar, the musical period, and Dowland.
To look at it , you wouldn’t think something as diminutive as a lute could represent an entire orchestra and choir, but it just did. Thanks for another four minutes of bliss. So kind of you to share Leva. Thank you.💐🕊
I'm just starting to learn this piece on guitar and I really appreciate having a lute performance to reference so thank you! Having some difficulty with the dense counterpoint in the beginning currently, but I will get past it I hope 😅
Very beautiful! A big fan of the song since I heard it a year or so ago and trying to learn it by ear/watching performances. Your right hand technique seems very intriguing to me btw. Great performance, thank you! :)
Yours is the only (among those i've heard) interpretation of this Fantasia in which the entry of the 2nd voice in the first part is exactly the same, in durations, as first one. Can you indicate which is the text, the edition, you read for the execution. Thank you and congratulaions for your work.
Well it should be taken from Varietie of Lute Lessons Robert Dowland with this piece by his father John Dowland on page 29. Diapason at D. It is in the famous book by Diana Poulton (with tablature and solfege) The collected lute music of John Dowland. Piece I a . A Fantasie. All the best ...
Hi Elton, most of Dowland's music is transcribed for guitar, but I dont't know where you could find it for free. You could check "The Collected Lute Music of John Dowland" by Diana Poulton. It contains all Dowland's lute works in modern notation.
It has taken me a surprisingly long while, to appreciate just how great a composer Dowland was.
Superbly played. The changes in tempo and the two part call and answer were expertly executed. Bravo.
man my left ear really loves this recording

This is *such* a difficult piece and wow you bring out its magisterial quality--the music unfolds so beautifully. Well done!!
Absolutely wonderful performance. She brings out the inner voices better than a schizophrenic! Brava!!!
Thanks so much Ieva for bringing a sliver of beauty and light to us reeling under a second wave of infections.
Thank you Peter!
Always consistently outstanding.
Very good, Ieva! Good technique, good lute, good touch. Dowland himself would have liked that so much.
Excellent ! Congratulations !

Hi Leva, is there a place to find free transcriptions of John Dowland's music for classic guitar?
