You're absolutely right! I did consider adding Dune, but since it's recent and super popular, I decided to leave it out of the list to highlight some lesser-known picks. I actually meant to mention Dune in the intro but totally forgot! Honestly, it deserves that #1 spot for being the closest to Avatar in terms of epic visuals and storytelling
The Martian is hardly even close to Avatar. It is realistic speculative sci fi with no world building. Also Instellar again is speculative sci fi no real world building. As far as Tron Legacy should have also included Tron as well.
No film can compare to Avatar. Anyway, Interstellar is by far the best on the list.
