    These three restaurants look really delicious. I always love your Chinese food vlogs the most. Then, the seafood. For 2nd place. Then the Filipino food vlogs, because I am Filipino American as a young woman who grew up on SoCal food. Thank you for sharing. All the shrimp stuff looks so good!!

    So many GREAT PLACES are closed forever in Old Los Angeles Chinatown - both new and old. No more $8 lunches with Crab Rangoon, Rumaki, and a Mai Tai. No more giant banquet places. No more "Sam Woo" style BBQ Houses. No more Live Seafood in tanks. Now you have to go to Monterey Park, San Gabriel Alhambra and Rosemead for that. Chinatown is now mostly Hong Kong Diners, Steam Table lunch take-outs, and Vietnamese stalls.

    Personally, as long as the food is freshly cooked, I love all Chinese food. For me, the longevity of a restaurant is synonymous with good food. Won Kok, on Alpine St, which has been there for over 50 years, is my Chinatown go to. The dining area is not great, but the food is delicious and reasonable. The Baked Char Siu Bao is to die for, big, lots of meat, and again, reasonably priced. You won't find Shu Mai anywhere as big or, again, as reasonably priced. Again, they've been in business for decades, and have outlived most of the restaurants in Chinatown.

    I say this with a lot of love and but as a local who has grown up and lived in Los Angeles for the past 30 years (I am 30), Chinatown is nothing but a shadow of its former self. Those restaurants you toured while I'm sure they're great food spots, they are not representative of the former Chinatown. How could they be? They've only been around a few years.
    All throughout my childhood through my teens up until my early 20s, I'd often visit Chinatown with my family because we were very poor and the vendors there sold clothes and other goods for very cheap. It used to be bustling with tons of vendors and Vietnamese/Chinese food establishments. Cheap and decent was the name of the game. But over the years, this area has gone downhill and worsened. Crime greatly increased. BLM riots, gentrification, and Covid hit which completely destroyed Chinatown. So many businesses closed up and moved because it was no longer safe or sustainable. There is no one else to blame but the people who trashed this area with their changes and very selfish attitude. I'm all for modernization but the idiotic selfish, and entitled Californians who wanted to change things up to make it more "PC" ruined this area like they have with everything else. Its sad.
    You showed only the decent looking parts. But I'm sure you've seen the broken windows and abandoned and] boarded up buildings...

    • @sigiloXXX
      @sigiloXXX 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd still go and support the restaurants that Steve went to. Food looks absolutely divine. Sadly, Chinese food where I live in southern Spain is crap. And you could never get fat on it because of small portions. I just come here to weep as I used to live in Santa Cruz, 30 long years. As a former German legal alien I just loved the diversity on offer. German food is capital boring.

    • @ClassyJohn
      @ClassyJohn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sigiloXXX I’m saying this as an asian who has lived in LA his entire life: there are better places than Chinatown to get GOOD and AFFORDABLE asian food. These places are only 15-25 minute drive from downtown LA.
