@Rlaarlo I think the biggest design issue is expecting mount points on the gearbox / diff housing alone to be structural enough to support the shock tower. Regarding the “Improved Materials” stated …is that material change for the plastics of the gear box? Is the gearbox used in this x12s and Rog1 compatible with the original am-x12? I pre ordered the original am-x12 and on its first run a small front impact caused the same damage seen here. The two mount points on the diff housing cracked off, yet the relatively fragile carbon fiber shock tower remained intact. Thus why I think mounting the shock tower to the gearbox alone in the future should be avoided. Seems like at least the interior brace for the shock tower found on the Rog1 that connects to the same screw location as the body post could have been used in this model if the new shock tower was designed with the extra screw location. Curious why it wasn’t? Finally, it would be nice if you designed an upgraded aluminum gear box with mounts for the sway bar! There is no metal gearbox on the market that has this, including your own upgrade part. I thought a metal diff housing would solve my issue with the am-x12, yet this is not an option as it forces me to remove the sway bars.

But I’m not an engineer 😃 Looks good with a small bumper too! 😊 But yes other than that, this was a blast!! Thanks!!
This is looking like it's going to be a really common problem. I would recommend everybody run bolts all the way through the four mounting holes for the rear tower and then put nuts on the other side. I think the problem is that the screws are just too short and they end up ripping out and then either all four of them rip out or the ears rip off the top once the bottom one's rip out.

Great video! 12:28 just wanted to point out that’s not the amx12, looks like the 1/14 brushless buggy. The amx12 is practically the same length as the new x12s!
I wish I would have seen this before I ordered mine to combine shipping, but still a great video with a great solution to a problem I've seen others have as well
I haven’t had any issues so far with my ROG1, but I know a lot of people have. I got mine late October early November I believe. But my boys and I run the ⚽️’s off of it and no issues yet 🤞🏻. I think I’ll wait until they address the issues with this fella before grabbing one. Awesome video as usual!! 🤘🏻
Nice! It’s definitely possible the Rogs got better axles by then. Really not sure! Atleast the upgraded axles are coming soon if you ever happen to need them.
Just got mine yesterday took it out today for a quick run. It is a solid little rig for sure! I haven't put the other pen in yet. Think I'm just going to enjoy it as is for now. Do you think hex extenders would help at all or is the handling pretty on point?
@@DerbyCityRCI really don’t know why they didn’t include the front brace in the original design. Wonder if they didn’t find the flaw and just found out from reviewers or they discovered it after designing and manufacturing the new 7075 shock tower? Either way it’s a bit too late since the new shock tower doesn’t have that extra screw hole mount location for the brace you showed, right?
Exactly that's what I was thinking when I seen it happen on another video where a guy just hit a small ramp out in his court like a driveway or whatever and blew the screws out and I was thinking why don't they just run them all the way through and tighten it down with a nut..
Great video but I think the brushless Rlaarlo you compared it to was accidentally the 1/14 scale brushless not the AMX 12 I would like to see a head-to-head comparison between the actual AMX 12 and the new one x12s
Thanks! Yup you’re correct! Other people pointed this out too. Funny I thought that was the amx12. I thought it was the only buggy they had until now lol
Good video, sir. Lots of fun and well edited. Wow. They marked the 1.5 mil hex heads ? I'd still use an MIP bit for those. I stripped a stub axle grub screw over the weekend (different RC), which is recessed into the CVD, so I can't notch it with a Dremel 😢 That's a $20 mistake, so i bought myself some MIP bits for Christmas because if a $30 set of drivers prevents another $20 mistake then that's a great deal. 😂 5:10 some Dr. Seuss going on. "I would not eat them with a fox, i would not eat them in a box" Love it. 💪🏼
Going BLX 223s Typhon grom instead of this one. This is very cool, but I think the grom is a bit better when you can get them at stock price some time after Christmas.
Ahh new DerbyCityRC video, that's a proper way to start a week! :D I was never really a buggies fan but I am tempted to get this one. Though after switching from 14th and 16th scales to Terminator I can see the difference that size does. Waiting for your new Typhon review! I'm inclined to agree. I just have reservations because of upgrades/ spare parts seem to be purely through rlaarlo, delivery timings to the UK are generally poor and I think it's a bit bigger/ less backpack ready. Small grumbles, it looks like an amazing bargain
The 10208 ones I don’t recall being too bad. Definitely need to make sure you’re using quality tools. I order them on Amazon but I’m not really sure they’re better quality lol
I've got mine coming on the 19th! I was really hesitant to pull the trigger but the deal seemed really good. Let me ask you how do you baby step your way to jumping like you do I'm terrified to take the leap and just send it awesome video man as always Good stuff.
I started with a smaller ramp but honestly a bigger one would be better as you have more time to flip and react. Broke a lot more cars for a while too as I learned 😂 start at slower speeds and maybe try to land in some tall grass and practice movements with the trigger while the car is in the air to learn how it reacts. I learned a lot with my hbx 16890 which is a super durable 1/16 scale. That helped too!
Those front flips off that small metal ramp towards the end were awesome! I loved the dink sound. I really like this one. I have the rog 1 (which I like) and it had problems with the camber link screws falling out easily. I’m noticing that this cars diff housing screws come out easily. Not sure how to feel. I run the rog 1 with road tires the size of the x12s and absolutely love the way the car handles. The x12s looks just as good if not better but loose screws falling out my rc is my biggest pet peeve in the hobby. Could you clarify if the screws came loose or did the plastic that receives the screw strip? Super great job as per usual putting the car through stress tests. Thanks bro 👍✌🏼
I agree those were fun!!! From what I can tell, it doesn’t look like any screws backed out. The plastic on the bulkhead broke with that wing crash. The upper screws in the broken ears are still tight and the plastic is broken on the bottom screw holes. Like if you sliced the screw hole in half longways. All the threads are in good shape. Supposedly they have already made changes to the material used for the bulkheads to make it a bit more pliable and better at absorbing impacts.
Think you can compare it to the older buggies? Am x-12 and all the other LC variants etc. Some of the parts LOOK interchangeable Like if the new diffs fit in the okd buggy... that'll be amazing
I don’t have any of the WL 1/12 buggies, just the 1/14. But up close to those, the parts don’t look the same at all. Like not even close. This has a much more premium feel over any WL I’ve had too!
Asking someone who has been in the hobby more time and know rlaarlo better; Do you think they will come with a... A) accessory replacement for that tower, B) send X parts as a recall for first customers, or just leave it as it is and C) better start ordering the parts mentioned above and spend the dollars we save at the beginning
Sounds like they already changed the plastic material for the rear bulkhead and anyone with issues with that breaking will get the newer material part. My guess though is they won’t do the braces. Maybe add longer screws and nuts. If you want the car, I think I would do my mod. At the very least, longer through-screws like DO RC did to his.
Does anyone know if Rlaarlo has truly upgraded the parts in the recent ones they’ve sent out? I just received one of their last blue ones. Have not had a chance to go mess with it, but would like to know ahead of time if they’ve already put the upgraded Plastic part in it.
From what they said, it sounded like that already has happened, but I don’t know. I wish I did. They did also say that if anyone has that issue who did get the “old part,” the warranty replacement would be the new one.
Nice power run. Quick super, what neck of the earth are you located, it seems pretty cold. Bro, if those RC can get though your acid test , they. Are worth the buy, great video, happy holidays.
Have to compare to the am 12 models the wltoys had that same problem on hard landings but if they solved it with better plastics with the am 12 models then they should have just released these as upgrades and mad a buggy platform off the xts or omni terminator chassis especially disappointed with no center diff
I put it next to their 1/14 buggy thinking it was the amx12. That’s the only other buggy of theirs I have. Yes I wish this platform had a center diff, but very few cars this size do. I imagine we will get a buggy on the Omni platform eventually!
Another super video, my friend !! You don't get enough credit for what you do for us ! You're the best are thank you !! You need to get a T that says ( RC CAR BUSTERS ! ) LOL
Good idea , I agree riarrlo should just install the rear bumper . That’s why they give it to you guys find out what could break or easily made a lot stronger different when people buy them but not really because young guys going bash and go for skate parks and be bad drivers or upgrade to send to moon . 🌙 I thought guys were breaking front bullheads because no bumpers , than just landing upside down on concrete than should be changed to a truck . The whole point of a buggy or even jumping is to have control . If you were driving you would be ☠️ without a roll cage 😂
You should actually make it 12S. Just get some small 3S batteries, wire them in series and just put them wherever there's room. You might get 2 or 3 minutes, but that would be a fun 3 minutes tee-hee. If it doesn't blow up. By the way, nice rhyming and at 6:52... SAFE! Cool video buddy. Catch you on the next one.

I live one mile from the Gulf of Mexico and my blood has thinned out to deal with the heat no problem… it’s that darn 🥶 cold brother…
Ya it’s been pointed out I was mistaken and that gray buggy I showed at the end isn’t the amx12 😂. It thought that’s what I had all along. It’s the 1/14 scale buggy. I got it right at 50mph (80 kmh). The actual amx12 may be faster lol
Am I the only one that realizes this and the rog1 are based off the WL toys platforms. They just added some bracing, changed the swing arms and suspension brackets and changed the horrible differentials. It's a beefed up am-x12. The bulkheads and differentials were major weak points in those old models
I see why people might say this, but they’re not. It’s all different parts. Control arms are different, different hinge pin brackets, as you said more bracing and better gears. I don’t believe a single part is interchangeable. The chassis’ are different as well. It’s just similar looking because they’re in the same class.
There’s not one part that’s the same , only thing is same is the size . Rc cars like real cars only so many designs going work and buggy truggy always going be best performing and you get new but similar plastic designs for bashing or budget
Awesome review, stating some of the issues from the offset that people need to be aware of. I've already seen a few rip the shock tower off, and it seems that Raarlo should have found this weakness and put screws all the way through with nuts on the other side. So might want to add some nuts there also? Speaking of nuts, the X12S handled acorns better the the US police did, search 'acorn drop' if you don't know what I'm talking about. Rlaarlo has a few problems that are easily fixed, only thing is, they don't seem to want to fix many of them, some are even getting worse. And I mean more than the aggressive brakes their cars have too. Rlaarlo like to have you spend more money for how something should have come in the first place, it seems part of their modus operandi, like Traxxas. Yes to the 1/10 buggy on the OT platform as we were expecting, but it may be too late for Rlaarlo? They've not been so good to me lately, I may be just another customer they didn't care about and that went elsewhere. Arrma, I'm looking at your gear now, just hard to get it here in New Zealand, may have to try Arrma direct?
Thanks! Using the through bolts and nuts is a good option too. Cheaper and easier. Likely not quite as strong. Doing both would be the best of both worlds or atleast do the front brace and the through bolts. I will look up acorn drop 😂. I think over time they will continue fixing things. That’s my hope. We will see! I’ve got the blx typhon grom coming so a comparison will be interesting!
@DerbyCityRC thanks Evan,I just got off of their website where they are now offering the S2 upgrade and purchased 4 cvd's for the Rog 1 so not only to upgrade for strength but to upgrade the rear dogbones to cvd's. Also ordered the green aluminum hinge pin holders and the wing mount and wing to retrofit onto the ROG 1 and try to strengthen up the rear to protect the really weak and easily destroyed body where it mounts to the"cargo box" in the back.
Such good marketing selling the same care multiple times lol, Rlaarlo basically stole WL toys them made the same car multiple times different names minor changes
WL toys stole it from LC racing. It’s been passed around to several brands for years. However this one is completely different. Not WL based at all. Only similar looking because it’s in the same class.
Did you really call that suspension QUALITY , it looked naff in my none humble expert opinion 🤣🤣🤣 . Do I like gaskets in an RC , nah . Am I buying one ? Nah , no siree 🤣🤣🤣 . All other RC suckers may purchase to their hearts content though 🤣🤣🤣 .

I subscribed. Nice and to the point.
And no unnecessary unrealistic bashing.
Thanks man! Yes I try to find that middle ground. Maybe the higher side of middle ground still being fair and reasonable to the car but rough to know what the car can handle in crashes. 👍
@DerbyCityRC indeed
I can just imagine the grounds maintenance guy coming to work the next day wondering where all the tiny tracks came from on the base path. 😂
Haha! I think he spaces it out a bit more than every morning lol grass growing in the dirt in some spots 😂. He might be able to sniff the tracks and say, yup! That’s a rlaarlo!
@@DerbyCityRC 😂😂
🤣
This is the first time I've seen this type of remote control car, but the acceleration and power are amazing.
It's sturdy and runs great 🚙
And super fun!! 😃
Great video! 12:28 just wanted to point out that’s not the amx12, looks like the 1/14 brushless buggy. The amx12 is practically the same length as the new x12s!
Thanks! Yup someone else pointed that out too. For some reason I thought all the older buggies were the same. Silly me! Thanks for pointing that out.
Looks like it'd be great fun. I only wish that local hobby shops would start carrying their spare parts.
Thanks! Yes me too!! Hopefully that happens!
This is great review and test. It took quite a beating. But, I am sure not everyone is going to have the patience or desire to do the repairs you did.
Thanks! Yes I agree. It’s there if you want it lol
Nice video! Would it be possible to truck-a-fy the buggy with body and tires? The longer chassis would be sweet.
I believe so! I’ll probably try this soon! Uses the same arms as the rog1 I think so likely a simple switch up!
Awesome video, thx. bummer that rear tower is so fragile
Thanks! I know. Hopefully they add a brace or two.
I wish I would have seen this before I ordered mine to combine shipping, but still a great video with a great solution to a problem I've seen others have as well
I was blown away how strong it was after that fix lol. Glad you liked the video man!
Derb-ability tested 💯
Greg job! Tough little buggy for sure!
Thanks broski!! 😃😆
sooo ur saying theres a way to make a longer wheelbase rog1?
😈🌮💥
I could totally see a trophy truck body or a rally style body....hell even a General Lee!!!..Awesome vid as always!!!❤️🔥👊
Would be siiick!! Thanks!!!
What a beast... once reinforced. Nice one
Absolutely! Thanks!!
Front Flip spettacolari. Bel video . 👍👍👍
Thanks!!
@ oh I’m sure we will need them at some point 🤣
😂
What a great way to start the week!
😊 thanks!! 😊
Just got mine yesterday took it out today for a quick run. It is a solid little rig for sure! I haven't put the other pen in yet. Think I'm just going to enjoy it as is for now. Do you think hex extenders would help at all or is the handling pretty on point?
Sweet! I think it handles good as is. Add them later if you feel it needs it but I don’t think it does personally. Enjoy!!
Omni one would be sick! Great video as always! Happy to see you growing the channel. Keep up the hard work!
I agree and thanks so much!!
love how it looks!
Me too!
Great vid, as always 🎉🎉 And I like your fixes a lot 👍🏻
Thanks and thanks!!!😊
That’s the fastest I’ve seen a Rlaarlo crater. V2 here we come!
I’d love to see them add that front brace at a bare minimum but the bumper certainly helps too!
Like the new tunes you‘r playing with!
Thanks! Just Trying to change it up from time to time 😃
I'm so tempted to get this. I have too many rcs already..
Too many RCs? That does not compute!
Yes they should make one on the Omni platform!👌👍. Another great video!👍
I bet they will! Thanks!!
Exactly that's what I was thinking when I seen it happen on another video where a guy just hit a small ramp out in his court like a driveway or whatever and blew the screws out and I was thinking why don't they just run them all the way through and tighten it down with a nut..
Looks like a darn nice car!
Absolutely!
@DerbyCityRC I don't have a Rlaarlo yet, but they are next on my list
Thats some hellish stopping on this car.
😈
Getting pine needles in the wheels is always a slight scare when it starts making a clicking noise😂
Oh ya!! 😂
Great vid...Ibwoukd love to see u debate TLR tuned Typhon!!
Thanks!! I’ve got a couple typhons coming but no TLR for now.
Great video but I think the brushless Rlaarlo you compared it to was accidentally the 1/14 scale brushless not the AMX 12
I would like to see a head-to-head comparison between the actual AMX 12 and the new one x12s
Thanks! Yup you’re correct! Other people pointed this out too. Funny I thought that was the amx12. I thought it was the only buggy they had until now lol
Awesome video. But.. isn't that 14th scale rlaarlo u said it was amx12. U compared it to at the end
Yup! I’ve had that buggy for 2 years and always thought it was the amx12 😆. You’re probably the 10th person to gently let me down 🥹🤣
Good video, sir. Lots of fun and well edited.
Wow. They marked the 1.5 mil hex heads ?
I'd still use an MIP bit for those.
I stripped a stub axle grub screw over the weekend (different RC), which is recessed into the CVD, so I can't notch it with a Dremel 😢
That's a $20 mistake, so i bought myself some MIP bits for Christmas because if a $30 set of drivers prevents another $20 mistake then that's a great deal. 😂
5:10 some Dr. Seuss going on.
"I would not eat them with a fox, i would not eat them in a box"
Love it. 💪🏼
Thanks! Yes good drivers are definitely worth the money!! I should have bought the Dr. Seuss hat!
Can you check the axles and see if like on the Rog 1 they go from like 3mm down to 1.5mm towards the ends. Thats where i always break mine.
Yes they definitely still taper. Shape-wise they look the same.
@DerbyCityRC thanks for checking that for me,much appreciated brother.
@@richiefrank15productions no problem man!
Authorized Vehicles only Sir!! That cracked me up!
🤣🤣🤣
Going BLX 223s Typhon grom instead of this one. This is very cool, but I think the grom is a bit better when you can get them at stock price some time after Christmas.
I’m sure you can’t go wrong there! I’ve got one coming so will be interesting to see them side by side!
Ahh new DerbyCityRC video, that's a proper way to start a week! :D
I was never really a buggies fan but I am tempted to get this one. Though after switching from 14th and 16th scales to Terminator I can see the difference that size does. Waiting for your new Typhon review! Would be cool to see you abuse the Team Corally Syncro 4 too! Cheers!
Oh ya!!! 🎉🥳. This is the nicest buggy I’ve driven yet! The typhon is fun! I’m sure I’ll end up with a TC one of these days!
Great video bud
Thanks!!
what part of KY are you from
I’m in Louisville (Loonyville 🤪)
Love it, great video
Thanks!
That’s some dedicated durability testing right there!🫣😬🙂🙂
😈😃
So a big question being thrown around seems to be - this or the arrma typhon grom blx?
I’ve got one coming! We will see!
@DerbyCityRC I hope it's soon. I've 2 loaded shopping carts and an itchy checkout finger! Your honest and wonderfully brutal reviews have always steared me well, so I'll be patient..... for now.
Haha! Well I “preordered” it like December 5th or something. Says it will ship in January. I’ll give it a regular review first and then do a comparison between the two most likely. Hopefully the review will answer your questions good enough, when we that will be! (Definitely asap after it arrives).
I think if you can do the reinforcement on the rlaarlo it’s by far the winner.
I'm inclined to agree. I just have reservations because of upgrades/ spare parts seem to be purely through rlaarlo, delivery timings to the UK are generally poor and I think it's a bit bigger/ less backpack ready. Small grumbles, it looks like an amazing bargain
Only 800 vids on this allready😢
Yup lol. I don’t rush. I focus on quality and a good review.
Where do you order real hex screws that don't get round when you just look at them, the screws on the mjx 10208 type
The 10208 ones I don’t recall being too bad. Definitely need to make sure you’re using quality tools. I order them on Amazon but I’m not really sure they’re better quality lol
@DerbyCityRC okej I have orderd a 2mm titanium screwdriver now and I hope it will be better 👍😊
I was just doing some service on my 10208 last night with no problems so yes hopefully this will help you!!
@@DerbyCityRC yes it must do that 😊👍
Been waiting for you to do one
🤜💥🤛
Damn dude, you punished that car 😅
Yes lol. Felt like I had to lol
@ thank you very much for the response. Helps a lot ✌🏼
You’re welcome man!
Think you can compare it to the older buggies? Am x-12 and all the other LC variants etc. Some of the parts LOOK interchangeable
Like if the new diffs fit in the okd buggy... that'll be amazing
I don’t have any of the WL 1/12 buggies, just the 1/14. But up close to those, the parts don’t look the same at all. Like not even close. This has a much more premium feel over any WL I’ve had too!
Asking someone who has been in the hobby more time and know rlaarlo better;
Do you think they will come with a...
A) accessory replacement for that tower,
B) send X parts as a recall for first customers, or just leave it as it is and
C) better start ordering the parts mentioned above and spend the dollars we save at the beginning
Sounds good thank you 👌
Nice power run. Quick super, what neck of the earth are you located, it seems pretty cold. Bro, if those RC can get though your acid test , they. Are worth the buy, great video, happy holidays.
Thanks! Lower half of the rust belt 😂 Happy holidays to you too buddy!!
Hi guy's you probably want to change the front hub's for metal. They are a weak point. My grandson son and watch your channel Great video mate 👍 😊😂😂
Thanks!! Good to know my friend! Thanks and glad you guys enjoy!! 😊🙏😃
Rlaarlo is king of the minis bro… for real!
They’re up there for sure! After beefing this one up it was phenomenal. Rog1 now that maybe the axles are improved should be phenomenal!
@ heck yeah… I like other obvious minis but Rlaarlo has got their RC realm figured out bro…periodo amigo 💭in my opinion
Another super video, my friend !!
You don't get enough credit for what you do for us ! You're the best are thank you !!
You need to get a T that says ( RC CAR BUSTERS ! ) LOL
Thanks man! Much appreciated!! 😊😃😆
Acorns . The new standard in road testing RCs…
What do we use in summer?
🤔
Walnuts and those spikey ball things!?? 😀😆
I always capture and use washers.
Doing that also would be the strongest!
That's not the am-x12 btw that was the brushless 14th scale that u compared the wheelbase to
Yup! A few people have pointed that out. For some reason I thought mine was the amx12. Hadn’t pulled it off the shelf for a while 😂
Good idea , I agree riarrlo should just install the rear bumper .
Thanks!! Rollcage required 😂
Can u rev the xmax???
Hopefully one day! Don’t have the funds for it right now.
@ fair enough it’s so expensive 😅 good vid!
Haha! Yes I should! Thanks I took much time to write that rhyme! 🤭🤯😆
I can’t order one yet man
They sold out about a day after this video came out. They will have more soon.
Ok Dr Seuss. Lmao 🤣

And this video?? Nice work brother… did skullyboner freeze up and shatter into a million pieces up there in that brutal weather??
He’s always shivering! I can hear his teeth and bones chattering all the time!
@ I love to visit my home state of Michigan in the ❄️ winter… notice that I said “visit”… otherwise I’d end up 🥶 getting sick of driving through the nasty salty brown slush and I’d have wrecked my snow machine by now and it would take months to save a couple grand to fix it… oh this is the first month of winter😳…do you see where I’m going with this? I live one mile from the Gulf of Mexico and my blood has thinned out to deal with the heat no problem… it’s that darn 🥶 cold brother…
Hmmm....my AM-X12 reached 93kph with the high speed pinion and a bit larger tires (90mm I think)
But 77kph is fast enough tough 😂
@@DerbyCityRC They seem slow to fix issues we raise in the group. I'll be interested to see that comparison. I'll be keeping an eye out mate.
Thanks man! I’m rather interested too!
No spare wing available
It will be. They’ll have every part soon if it’s not up yet.
@DerbyCityRC Ok cool I'm ordering me one Tomorrow morning the Blck & Yellow can't wait how you like her
I like the black and yellow! I like this buggy a lot just add some support to that rear shock tower!

@DerbyCityRC MY opinion any car you get & you sending it & running it for what it's not for yes of course you gonna break it

How come the ROG 1 is insanely quick and this, this, well, a turd.
I wouldn’t call it a turd lol I assume it’s due to the tire size. It doesn’t seem geared differently
You’re welcome Richie. Glad they now have the S2 parts! Seems the stock axles might be stronger now too.
Yes I did. And I’ll stick to it but you’re fine to not agree. No worries.
