    this is the only explanation of heightmapping I have understood. Thanks so much. Great explanation

    the best video that i have seen about height mapping over internet, thank you so much, good luck

    Hey, thanks for this video.
    I never zero'd my probe in the middle, also never with a piece of paper but by using the probe function. Why do you not use the probe? Why in the middle?

    I understand all your instructions but where do these clips connect to?

    • @babbadge

      Wire 1 runs from the body of the spindle motor to the A5 pin of the controller. Wire 2 runs from the copper of the pcb to (one of) the G (ground) pin(s) of the controller. That's it!

    @ Charles - Finally a positive explanation! I had been trying for several days to do the height map of a PCB but without success: the tip touched the copper but did not go up and made a jerky noise with finally an alarm...
    By following the video step by step I finally obtained the result I was looking for. Thank you very much Charles!
    I'm using CANDLE 1.1.7 but don't have the PRESETS buttons used in the video. How to add them?
    PS Is it possible to use a Z probe instead of the sheet of paper to set the starting Z zero?

      Thank you.
      Yes, Candle is a little bit different and not always better imho.
      And yes, you can use the probe function in stead of the paper trick.

    daft question but if u generate more lines on the map of the pcb does it make the cut more accurate when its plunginh, what i mean by that will the depth oc cut be more accurate through out the pcb

    If I have my pcb secured to the machine, do I have to zero the z axis to proceed with the heightmapping, or must I zero the zed prior.

      Set the zero point before making the height map

    Been frustrated trying to do this myself. I've used the regular probe command regularly with candle and my cnc but when I try the heightmap it does a single probe and then does nothing and I have to abort (and yes I have the probing matrix parameters set up).

    I want to make accurate PCB's with perfect aligning holes. Not sure if an end ball mill or flat end mill is better for drilling 0.8mm holes.

      For drilling holes, I use 0.8mm drill (with 3.2mm shaft), not a mill

      Press the mous button and drag, then it becomes 3D

    Hi Charles, it would be possible for you to share the wiring diagram for the height map probe? I am having a lot of issues with my 3018, when I try to run the height map, the machine is pushing the bit all the way down without stoping on the PCB. Thanks!

    • @babbadge
      @babbadge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just two wires: wire 1 runs from the body of the spindle motor to the A5 pin of the controller. Wire 2 runs from the copper of the pcb to (one of) the G (ground) pin(s) of the controller. That's it!
      Another tip to prevent the machine pushing the bit all the way through is the following. When creating the height map in grblcontrol, fill in the Zb field with a small value, e.g. -0.5 (mm). If the machine doesn't find copper it will not dive deeper than -0.5mm.
      Have fun & take care!

    It is possible to save the height map to a file?

    can you provide a link for the software you are using to control the board please?

    • @babbadge
      @babbadge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm still using grblcontrol version 0.8.1 from 2015. The product has been renamed into Candle and you can download version 1.1.7 from github.com/Denvi/Candle. Scroll down to where it says Windows

    hello! I have a question about candle. Today I tried to use the CNC for my first PCB and my pcb was made 2 and a half times smaller than usual. What do you reckon I should change?

      This is an issue if you have the program the wrong way inch or metric. 1 inch is 2.54cm
