  • The Plymouth all-weather Lifeboat 'Sybil Mullen Glover' at sea in a full force 10 gale.
I wasn't on board but filmed the guys as they left the mooring.
This video was filmed 22.nov 2012 and has been picked up by the media and shown on television. The R.N.L.I. is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and is a charity that saves lives at sea.

I love this sort of stuff and is another reason why I became a skipper of a rescue vessel here in Melbourne Australia.. You can also hear the skipper working the throttle as he enters and leaves each wave. Great stuff.

As a retired engineer off of Canada's 47 ft mlb, I loved the job. Could be rough on the body at times but worth it. Kudos to all that do it.

This is the easy bit she can take this weather. In the dark force ten and trying to get a crew off a ship in distress that is when skill is required.I admire the lifeboats crew it takes a special person to go out and save peoples lives.

Nope, the RNLI is a charity and the lifeboat crews are volunteers. They risk their lives for free on a regular basis - just like the UK mountain rescue.
But yes, considering what they do - it's hard to believe that they don't get a living wage from it.

I was crew on Newhaven ALB, went out in that sea a number of times, one day the wind blew the sea flat and all you could see was foam forming on the surface and being blown around the boat, that was a weird day.

Long live the RNLI. A lot of people - land lubbers mostly, have no idea that the RNLI is a charity and has no government backing, and they don't want government backing because if they were government backed, they'd be wrapped up in red tape and health & safety, which would mean they wouldn't be able to go out in seas like that and rescue people, and would end up being as useless as the MCA - not that the CG volunteers are useless! The folks who risk their lives are volunteers, Support them!
