What's more satisfying?? Having a safer car knowing you built the cage or having soccer mom too fast for her old bones ? Always a great time!! Thanks Kevin. Safe Travels!!
I have had the opportunity to visually inspect the cage welds up close and personal, while flipping end over end, after a blowout approaching 200. This is how it looks out the visor. Sky, cutoff switch, cutoff switch, CUTOFF SWITCH, track, sky, weld, sky, track, sky, weld, track, sky, sky, sky, ooo sky i landed right side up. Ya u notice every bar for some reason. That shiny SFI sticker flashes like a strobe during the sky, track, sky part. My vote is for the cage.
@@flipfloptanlines926 For sure. It's amazing how much you notice when something like that happens. Even though it was years ago, I can still recall the sight of my of my left hand button mirror cracking mid flip... like I could see the crack happening in slow motion. Was so very grateful for the quality of my cage construction. My bell got rung a bit, but, walked away with really no injuries other than a cut on my brow from my glasses inside the helmet.
Excepted, it's potentially is/ going to be too fast for the new cage spec aswell
@@Dlawler Yes with forced induction, engine management systems, and methanol used, the capabilities of the cars today are tremendous. If and when the car acheives the goal of reaching the next SFI cert, a capable fabricator can upgrade easily with the addition/change of safety cage and addition items, 1 ex: over 200mph = 2 parachutes required. I would wager to say that over 50% of all turbo v8 cars, especially on alcohol and its blends, are capable of exceeding their SFI certification.
@@TheJoebobmel I was 23 at the time and i wonder being in my 40s now, if i hadnt of done that then, would i notice all these N/T no time cars with stick welded 10pt cages and lapbelts, capable of running 7s and 8s in the 1/4, but running 1/8 mile. I also understand and love the grassroots of this sport and credit drag racings recent resurrection to these no time folks. As far as wrecks go you mentioned the oddity of your mirror cracking, i remember seeing the oil pressure guage go to 0 after cutoff in the air, then spiked the needle around 120 everytime i bounced. Its was the oil pan smashing down like an aluminum can pressuring the engine. The 3rd bounce stuck the needle into its stop post. My buddy remembers his auto shifter poppin into 2nd then 3rd after cutoff as he was rollin and bouncin after snappin an axle about 20 foot out. It was the cable mount breaking and yankin the cable down by the tranny. He tells the story, "Jesus take the wheel, but says i musta prayed wrong. But hey, still hit 2nd and 3rd for me lol".
Such a fine dance between efficiency and order, like which bar goes in 1st for ease of welding, thanks for sharing, we all know it takes extra time to film it all…. And your time is precious!
Nobody makes a better build video than Kevin. KSR videos are the TH-cam standard!
Kevin on video:"We're gonna have to call that 1/8" close enough."
Kevin waking in a cold sweat from a nightmare: "That bar is 1/8" off!!!"
Kevin’s 1/8” is everyone else’s 3/4”.
😂😂
As a fabricator, you have no idea how true this is!
Kept thinking Kevin was working a wah-wah pedal on the time lapse portion, specifically the beginning of Voodoo Child by Hendrix.
Hi Kevin, try a thumb wheel. i know there a little awkward at first but after you get use there great for those off balance welds
I was waiting for you to weld yourself into the back of the car. The cages has turned out great Kevin!
In this video Kevin goes behind bars for the perfect joint.
Top tier comment! 👍😂
Kevin, You're Just a WIZARD!!! & a Real Master of Bars & Angles.💪👍
That cold cut saw is a sweet piece, I wish I could justify one.
Kevin your safety is the only thing to be concerned about. Soccer Mum definitely will make the 7:50s. Your workmanship and Staff speaks for itself. Awesome content 👍💯🔥👏
Mum you say..., 25.5 SFI Roll Cage for SoccerMom!! Bars, Bars, and MORE BARS!!!...even the title of this video has it in it
people don't realize how much work goes into a project ....nice job
In awe of your pedel skills - left and right as well as the side of the foot, the sole, forward and backwards facing and I think I saw you use a knee in another video. Brilliant!
at one point i think he had his leg thru a hole in the floor running the pedal
Awesome to watch a man that has a family like me that can do the things you do while I'm just struggling to maintain what I do with a family. good on you man love the vids and you have a wonderful day
Awesome work... Not that we expected anything less....
I know you said you're doing the bars to go fast legally, but I think the right statement is you're doing this to go fast safely. ;) Great work as always!
We need more people like Kevin in the world. You are a solid dude.
So happy to see you upgrading this cage. Although I know that car is faster than a 7.5 car when you want it to be 🤣, but I’m very happy your adding the protection. I love your content and the knowledge I get from it, so I want to keep watching and learning for a long time. You got a great team and do great work Kevin.
Brother, too many Sick Week builds going on now. Yours is #1 in my book. Go out and win the 7:50 class. I'm rooting for you. Great show as usual. Win with KSR!!!!!
You know what is cool about KSR. They dont talk down to us viewers who dont have this skill set or the cars or any of that. These are Great Thank You KSR and Cleetus Mcfarland for the content and entertainment.
I gotta say didn't know who ya were until I saw mullet, your attention to detail is impressive. I know how hard it is to weld in tight quarters like that, spent the better part of my teenage years working on the family racecar. Would love to see ya take on a circle track build, but most tracks run spec chassis now and NA spec motors.
Pedal action 👍 both feet & sideways motion now thats tallent. I have trouble one foot in perfect position.😃
"we got 14 more bars to go.." something you hear a LOT up here in Washington State on a Saturday night.
OK, Kevin, be honest, how many times have you welded in a bar from the inside and then discovered you can't get out of the cage?
😂😂
He's a little guy he can prob fit through most of those spots lol. My fat ass would get stuck like Winnie thr pooh lol
Good question!!!
about the 11 min mark the EXACT same thought occured to me!
"dammit, gimme a sawzall!".. the contortions he puts himself into trying to weld upside down are often quite humorous and probably borderline painful...
That one tip about how you locate the seatbelts in a car where multiple people are driving: gold. I’m not currently building a car but I’ve always wondered how that’s done. This is why I watch Kevin. 👍🏻
Good day to you sir
You guys definitely deserved a brake over the holiday but nice to have you back regular.
"Dedecation " . Thanx Kevin this will help me get through my day.🇺🇸👍
Perfect time just as I take lunch 😃😃
Another awesome video thanks for sharing Kevin.Awesome work god bless
ohh you are spoiling us kevin with uploads two days in a row... keep it up :) love following what goes on in the shop at KSR..
Sometimes it pays to be a contourtionist, as a slim little guy I've spent a lot of time hanging upsidedown under dashboards doing wiring on cars, you made the welding look easy Kevin, Rj in Oz
as a teen, mid 20's i did a lot of stereo wiring and such, laying backwards on the seat was always fun, trying to get that one last connection that fought me..... still have back issues from it... i was a 6'3-160 guy at the time, so snaking my way under was interesting since my arms were long too....there were times where i had to have help getting back out.... now i'm an electrician/hvac tech, 200lb guy now, and still end up in tight spots.... oh the life of a handyperson
Very quickly becoming my favorite channel.

Kevin is committed to the pursuit of excellence.
Great job Kevin your killing it
Thanks for sharing it's good to know what what it takes to make a legit safe race car.
Simply awesome stuff Kevin and crew! Keep it coming, I'll keep watching.
I once worked in a shop that built custom things like cages.
My boss would carry on about the amount of time I just stood looking at what to be done instead of just getting stuck into it.
I’d spend upto an hour just looking scratching my head and scribble a some notes.
I always completed my jobs hours before he would and with zero comebacks.
I’m not small so squeezing into a tight place to weld something was never an option so I’d always make an improvement that required a large hole being strategically cut out of the floor or wheel well or the entire floor cut out and welded back in, sometimes doing more work means less work.
Imagine Soccer Mom gets in the 6’s before Mullet, lol. It’s a good looking car, hope it goes as fast as you want it to.
No joke on putting stuff back together. I'm 100% on disassembly, 50/50 on getting it back together right.
Great stuff Kev can't wait to see your car brother!!!😀🤘👍
Kevin is the man with the plan, amazing job Brother 👍
Two videos in one week. ❤️
Wow Kevin, now you know cage upgrades means now you gotta haul some arse. Lol ,but you do you my man. WE ARE ALL WITH YOU. Much love brother, hope the daughters are doing well. ♥️
Kevin you rock! Love the channel and content! I'm here for the algorithm! Peace
You are the master brother / Jacksonville Florida
Thank you for taking the time to bring us along on these car builds.
@KSR Performance & Fabrication you might want to show Kyle BoostedBoiz
that book a bit, the Sand Rail might need a bar or alot, its going to flip its not a question if it's when
Man you do nice work! I've learned a lot and thanks for putting these videos up!
Kick ass series going on here
You all do amazing work I enjoy the videos Thanks for sharing them.
Awesome content as always!
People are learning alot from your videos!
Duuude thank you so much for changing up the hold music!!
Perfection is the enemy of good
Great content thanks for sharing
Quick tip...duct tape the pedal to your foot! Sure as hell makes welding in weird positions easier!
Eyes looking better 😂😂, it’s great watching it all come together. Hope you guys do really good at sic week. 👍🇨🇦
Really interesting content, Kevin! For those of us who look at race cars and scratch our heads wondering how you fabricate all the parts that you do, this is amazing! On a different topic, what’s the schedule for the Viper? Are you going to be setting it up this year? That’s good stuff too!
QUESTION: "For those of us who look at race cars and scratch our heads wondering how you fabricate all the parts that you do. The "ANSWER" is really a 2 parter... 1) 'very carefully, 2) 'one piece at a time.'
Thanks Kevin , great work and video. I do wish someone would make a video to help understanding those SFI specs ,and where all the bars go. I have a spec for my " gasser " build and i have a heck of a time understanding it.
J.C..,. I can only image the mess and extra bars my father would have in a.roll cage or anything if he were into cars when he was alive.. Ive seen his house framing.. lol
SoccerMom is about to become an even faster aerodynamic missle! That hotrod oozes bullet speed!
Just need to pull your car down and set it on the stacker lift you got from cleetus or set it where the sxs is. Once you get it down you can make a couple videos showing us the car tell story of the past with the car all before you ever start the build
Why don't you use a thumb control for welding jobs like this?
Thanks for sharing ❣️
Kevin the contortionist 🤪🤣😂
That's some serious safety upgrading.
Amazing talent, thank you for showing us what goes into some of that work!
Wow wow can we talk about that magnificent mullet
Cool video very interesting 👍
Thanks Kevin for another great video.
I believe they make a button trigger for the torch. Instead of a pedal all the time
Excellent video 👌😎
Nice cage!
Great vid........... 👍👍👍
Absolutely love the content bro. Keep it coming.
That's fancy foot work.
Could you explain these chassis specs and what they mean?
You are the MAN!!!!
What, did I just hear of a Kevin personal car?? Holy crap, can't wait for this buddy.
15 minutes for u 15 hours for me to get the diff. back under the car lol. The cage work looks absolutely perfect !!! BUT WHAT ELSE IS NEW ✅
Love the master fabacator aspect of things great content
Looking good...even the "Kevin Pretzel" lol!
I wish I had a pipe bender like that man I'd build a insane go-kart with a vw 2.0 engine with r1. Carbs. Would be so sick
Do you drill a hole in the bars before you weld them, and for cramped areas, do you increase the stick-out of your tungsten and how do ensure you have adequate argon coverage for the increased stick-out?
Yes and yes
good morning from New Zealand Sir...you will see this comment on every video you post....this year
with that foot pedal action on the tig you could be a drummer
Wow its amazing how all the work on SoccerMom adds up over time BUT the extra bracing an gussets underneath will I think pay off big time over just relying on the factory mounts.
Gotta say I couldnt even start to crawl into those spaces lol Let alone weld in those positions!
Kevin, why would you keep the mild steel main hoop? Will 7.50 be all you try to get out of the car?
He would have to start from scratch if he wanted to go faster, that would count him out of Sick Week.
Love your videos
Some of those welding positions could get you into the Jim Rose Circus.
Absolutely love this content!!! thank you KSR
Never thought that i would hear Kevin say that within an 1/8" is close enough
Kevin is really Human, he's not a machine, he let something go by an 1/8 inch.
looking forward to you building your car you deserve it
Awesome fabtime
Your busy as, how's ya back after the welding..plenty of bars, that passenger seat looks hard on your back..can't wait to see your car down .
Have you ever tried a ck worldwide 🌐 remote amp trigger control makes life so easy
Curious to see what Soccermom scales after the “upgrades”.
I'm working on a 25.6 cage now
Just out of curiosity your goal for the car is faster than 7.50 right? Why not do a cage good for high 6s since you're already doing a cage? Is it possible on that car or do you have to basically have a tube chassis?
yeah curious to know what more needs to be done to go the next step cert down to 6.50? 4.60 in the 1/8 would certainly go faster than 7.50 already xD
It's mostly about the floor bars going from 25.5 to 25.3. The existing cage and all added bars need to be CM, there's an extra roof bar and more specific structure aft of the main hoop. Secondary door bars, gussets and roof bars all need to be bigger too. If Kevin thinks he might update later down the line and the 8.50 cage is CM then he might be planning around this already.
Edit: Just watched the video. Faster than 7.50 requires a full chrome moly cage, it would mean starting from scratch on this car.

Thanks!
That explain what all wanna know👍
It’s a good thing you are a skinny guy Kevin. Looking great sir.👊
Definitely makes me want to not have an extremely fast car 😂😂😂. Too many bars! As always keep up the great work. It just so happens that I’m wearing my “Everything Needs a Turbo” shirt today.
