    This was my fathers pride and joy and I knew every wrench ever put on this car. This car was ordered at a Moncton Dodge dealer and picked up in Halifax, NS at a Dodge dealer. Everything was ordered as built and there was never any modifications made. The defects you noticed when the engine was opened were factory mistakes and not made by any local Dodge dealers. The engine only had simple maintenance as required by the auto new car manual! I drove the car new and saw the colors as when new. The body roughness was ordinary as typical in Canada for winter weather where they used salt on the roads. It had several small bumps during the winter ice which should have been fixed at the time. I was not around at the time because of finishing my medical degree and starting a practice! I was young and not thinking of +50 years older for the car!! Of course the years flew by, my dad developed end stage prostate cancer and was very sick and not thinking of the Monaco! I had bought him several Lincoln Town cars which took his interest while well. We did get the Monaco started in 1986 which was just his chance for a last ride for him, not driving unfortunately, but as a passenger he did enjoy his final drive! This was the saddest drive for me ever because I was very close with my dad discussing our cars and how fast 0-60 mph as well as top speed although we never were much over 100 mph during our times owning 440 Magnums in different Mopar vehicles. We loved those cars and the thrill was always there when driving them! My dad was my best friend and we had so much enjoyment doing our 1000 mile oil changes with filter change at 3000 miles while driving them because we always said back then that oil was cheaper than major engine repair! I still believe that and at 82 years old now I still do that! During our car buying days we always bought the unique models. This 1968 Dodge Monaco 500 2dr was ordered as equipped now and was 1 of 351 produced with that engine and drive train as is! Nothing was ever modified from factory numbers! It is a unique “one of a kind “ 1968 Dodge Monaco 500 2dr 440 Magnum! My email is listed and questions about this car will be answered with pleasure!

    Happy New Year OCG & Family. I noticed a lot of blow back through the carb when the cho,e plate was opened.
    I would check your valve adjustment. Then recheck distributor as many others have suggested. Make sure the battery is full charged those engi es were somewhat notorious for hard starting unless turning fairly fast.Looking forward to hearing the rumble when it does fire up and keep running.

      No valve adjustment on these 440s as they use a rail for the rockers. Stay tuned for a follow up.

    New here from Tom’s channel. After your break, pull the number one plug and make sure it’s set at TDC on the compression stroke. Check rotor under cap. Inspect spark plugs for fouling and or lack of fuel. If lack of fuel, fill up the carb fuel bowl and if it runs for a short time and doesn’t refill, replace your new bad fuel pump with a good one. Parts chain has been horrible for old cars. Parts on shelf too long or the “world parts supply” rubber is crap. Keep in mind stuff labeled made in North America can have a ton of “world supplied” parts inside them.

      I think we have it narrowed down to the original coil not working with the new electronic ignition. I'm going to try the coil off my Cordoba here shortly! I appreciate the suggestions though.

    I'd put a new coil on to match the new electronic ignition upgrade, dont know if it will fix the non starting problem but for 40.00 it cant hurt.

    At least the distributor is in the right place for you to get at it easier. We don't have that on our Chevys. Is there a key wire to the starter and electronic ign that needs to be energized correctly for the spark? Other than that, I can only think of the timing, but I know you were messing with that. Good luck you will get it going. Happy New Year from Dans Garage NC!!!

    Hi Jason. Too bad you couldn’t get the 440 to fire up. I’ve experienced a no start like this due to a bad condenser. I know you swapped out to electronic ignition, you have spark, I saw you get zapped. The engine sounds physically like a timing problem. Good luck troubleshooting. Big Al.

      @@OldeCarrGuy I ran the 67 plymouth with a grounded out switch for 12 years ..I made a pig tail with a grounding end screwed to the firewall right where it plugs into harness ..so after I fixed it ..if ever it happens again I can just unplug from harness and plug in ground

    Acting as if two or more wires may be crossed with it spitting out the carburetor. Of course I could be wrong too or the distributor is 180 out just a couple of ideas hope they help

    I had a '69 Dodge Charger R/T that was all original with the 440 single four Barrel carb. I know ever time it got flooded, it was very difficult to start. Sometimes if you push the gas pedal to the floor it would start right up. These old Mopars were very finicky and temperamental.

    • @OldeCarrGuy
      @OldeCarrGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Merrill. I think we have it all figured out now, but stay tuned to the next 440 video to see what the problem was!

    I think it's the timing.. I think your turning the distributor too much..maybe turn it in smaller movements.. I don't know..Timing lights still go over my head.. Top dead center is important.
