I literally came back from a sparring session 30 minutes ago and this is what I had most trouble with. Thanks for all your videos Gabriel, they are very helpful!❤
Make it dirty if other tactics aren't working. Just get inside even if you take a shot getting in. From there, get aggressive, push forward into him with straights. Mix up head body inside. Step off to the side of said fighter, pivot rear foot 180 degrees & you'll end up on their side flank. Giving easy access. Advanced footwork & movement, but rather easy IMO once yu understand the principles. PS: I'm 5'6.5-7" IDK rlly. I generally spar w guys 6'-6'6. Tallest was maybe 6'7, maybe 240-250. I only weigh 168. I frustrate the hell out of these guys & they can't understand how a person my size is able to do what I do. I'm athletic and got natural power, but it's technique & tactics that have made me successful as somewhat of an 'outlier'.
Thank you Gabriel for putting in the chapters! 1. head movement, move head off centerline as you attack 2. fakes and feints with immediate followup attack 3. Powerslide (flying guard) 4. Terminator style - Dutch hi guard, braced core, pressure forward I do 3 and 4, will work on 1 & 2
I honestly didn't watch the vid bc of current time restraints, so this may be redundant, but.. Change levels while using lateral & diagonal angles. Obvy get off centerline, regardless of opponent. Throw calculated combos or pot shots, get in get out fast, focus on the retract more. Or stay inside & do work. Double or triple jab or feint in. Do NOT just go straight in. Don't exchange out of range. Movement, misdirection, and timing are your key elements here. Patience also. I do MT now. Former pro boxer. Not yet a champ like Gabe here. But getting closer. Maybe this helps some. I'm a better fighter than I am an instructor..
I don’t have a problem with taller guys. It’s the boxers who do the boxing weaves in the boxing sparring sessions instead of doing Muay Thai boxing. It’s annoying because those weaves don’t work when you can kick
Natural southpaw, 5’10 with a 72 in reach. I can go featherweight or super featherweight, easily. 126-130 lbs after a simple weight cut. Happy to train and looking forward to more boxing :)
Great episode Sensei Varga. You are an amazing fighter, but do you think being tall (5'11"?) in your weight division has helped you a lot, like for example if you were only maybe 5'7"?
Your videos are always interesting & this one on tall opponents was such. I've a question from the other side. Can you pl address it in a video. I'm quite tall (6'1.5"). Instead of head movement I find Dutch high guard & D'amato shifts (quick 90° turns taught to the great Mike Tyson by Cus D'amato) safer & also more in-line with a tall slender body frame. While in punching range these quick 90° shifts in attack / defence & simultaneous excellent defense of Dutch high guard seems a better option. Can you pl address this? Head movement requires lowering of guard, D'amato shifts don't.
Look at Alexander Volkov from the UFC. Absolute giant. Won a few weeks ago June 22 against Pavlovich . Can't be taken down. . . Great vid ( and intro!) I have sparring today at dojo. Our coach instructor is tall with such long limbs. Could be across the street and still teep ya 😏 I'll try to utilize some of these tips here ! 😬🤞
Does this work against a Muay Thai fighter who loves elbows? I can't imagine trying to get in close with Rodtang/Buakaw/Jon Jones... If not, what does work for them?
I am 5'5 male with reach 5'9 (yes short guy with long arms ), what can be my fighting style ?If I have great cardio and speed.I can both close range and long range.
I got this dude in my gym with a tae kwondo background he lights my legs and body up with a question mark kick it stops me from getting in boxing range. Where im better its super annoying
30+ videos in my course. Lock in your defense!

Thanks so much for this Gabriel. I’m 5’8 and powerful, but sometimes I have trouble with a guy who has a quick, tricky jab

You’re a very good teacher for boxers and kickboxers.
Nice :-) I'm a tall guy, and I can tell you, these are valid stuff.
I was literally hitting the bag 20 mins ago thinking on how to spar with opponents with longer arms wth Gabriel 😮😮
One thing to add, and perhaps it's just been my experience lately...be mindful of knees up the middle if you're kickboxing / MT wen u enter
Yup… got brought on my needs with a liver/knee. Opponent: 6’8…. I am 5’6

i wish id seen this before my 2nd fight! i did the head off the center line mistake and ate a huge hook LOL
I like the new intro 👍🏽
new intro music is 🔥
As a taller fighter i will look for these tips being practiced on me . 😂😂😂
Being here as the tall guy with long arms to learn how to counter the counters.
Great video. But what if the longer fighter watches this video and does the same stuff lol
Buen video 👍😎👍
As soon as you get in rage they clinch you easily. I had a fight with a dude at a tournament that was 6'7 and coked up.

Terminator style cannot hold the back kick from your opponent
Put back the old intro music
… and then there's Joe Frazier. ;-)

Gabriel I have been following you for 4 years now but I prefer your old intro music.
New music is fire🔥
I feel this but he's probably tired of hearing this song especially if it's him editing
Watching this as a featherweight w 80 inch reach studying my opponents likely thought process of tactics🫣
As a short featherweight myself, can you maybe give me a little advice on what works? 😅 Assuming you’re a kickboxer of course
Tell me how you lost when you come back to watch this again.
