when the net gets a bit dirty, it won't let the water spin easily anymore, and so it looses the behavior of a swirl filter and it becomes a bit like vertical trickle filter.
electrical pvc is not water tight, pvc has lots of microscopic holes in its structure for this reason plumbers pvc is coated with resin to make it water tight. this resin produces toxins when burned this is why even though pvc is a thermoplastic plumbers must use fittings to bend their runs and electricians just bend their pvc.
People should try Barley straw. We have in our town a pond which used to drive a grinding mill. It is possibly 1000 metres by 100 metres and an average of 1 metre deep(a lot of water). It suffered from algal growths ever year. Then Dave Pratt came up with the idea of placing (one 25 to 25-kilo bale)barley straw in the pond. Not a lot for the size of the pond. I was distributed in about 5-kilo bags anchored to the bottom (a heavy stone) and miraculously the following year the pond was so clear and remained so throughout the summer. This was fine ( straw replaced every year) until the local council handed responsibility to a local RSPB member. Now the pond is so covered in algae hardly any water can be seen. I think the straw would be placed in the swirl filter. It works on microbial things that are in the water as the straw rots. Wish I could upload photos to show. Not bad work with no UV needed in 100,000 cubic metres of water.
Fascinating. Was the straw simply distributed equally through the pond, or placed in strategic high flow areas? I've never heard of such a thing before, but it sounds really cool.
@@connorrisley8576 It was divided up into 5/6 sacks and weighted down. Really effective. not a huge flow as the water has a small submerged stream in it. To look at it no noticeable flow.
@@dillonlaw8898 look I'm not trying to get in a pissing match with you and all I did was write the truth. I have been doing aquàponics since 2012 successfully. I like to see what others are doing. If they waste my time. I have the right to say so. If you don't agree with my thoughts on the matter that is ok. You don't need to try to make yourself look more important by berating someone it only makes you look small.
So you have 5 subscribers! This guy comes on with over 1,000 subscribers and explains a swirl filter and you get aggravated and say “just do it don’t try to explain wasted time” good job buddy!!! Don’t want to argue either but it was a rude comment from someone that doesn’t put forth the effort to do something similar!!! You are the one berating another person not me.

I agree with bro Hugh. The net prevents the water to swirl as we like to see it.. Does the net really necessary for this type of filter?
It is not a filter as the Barley straw rots it stops the algae forming. Totally harmless to all wildlife.
I saw on your website you have my IBC firewood tote video on it. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing it on there.

Great idea. I'll need for insight on this
A great video.
there is a lot of poop at the top. You can see the big black ring of it still even after cleaning. Hopefully this has been upgraded since.
you bloqued the vortex with that net...
Appreciate you time .
Very helpful thank you for sharing!
That is roughly 100,000,000 gallons of water treated.

@@chrisrixon9618 cool, thanks! I might do a test with the stuff in one of my systems as an experiment
thanks for the info
