  • My swirl filter has been working great for many months now but there still just a little bit of solids that get through and I would like to address that. I’m looking for ideas from you guys but I’m also going to be getting a 3-D printer which means I can actually print parts that I really want for my system to separate out all solids:)

      why not turn your swirl into a radial flow settler? Rob Bob has some demo video and they do work better than swirls ;)

      Great video.A little tip on the glare. Use a umbrella when looking into glare refection on water.

    Scuds, daphnia, and other microfuana thrive in green water. Thats what they eat. If you grow them out in ur filters too there bigger size of 1" its free fish food, also preventing green water

    Hydroponics, what a waste of time. Eat the fish or graze cows.

    Was the "wrong swirl direction" thing a joke? Because it absolutely doesn't matter.

    The direction of swirl depends on whether you are in the northern or the southern hemisphere. Look at the way water goes down the plughole from the sink. It is called the coreolis effect. If you have it the 'wrong' way, you are fighting against the effect.

      Coreolis effect has not significance for small system like this. It is considerable only in the scale of cyclone, wind and ocean movement. Direction in sink, toilet and other stuff like the one in video depends on water source direction.

    try using a Bakki screen filter with the socks filter will take all the solids out.

      mikehotel02, thank you:) I will look that up. I am really wanting to build something that is more automated. I’ve seen really cool setups using a sieve where the solids go to the bottom of the sieve into another pipe that takes the solids to the sock filters. We will see what I come up with:)

    Looks like the water inlet is too high up on the swirl filter. More solids would drop if they started out 2 feet lower in the filter.

    What if that pipe is all the way down the bottom of the swirl
    Will it work better or its better on the top

    • @romeowhiskey2759
      @romeowhiskey2759 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      are you referring to the drainage pipe or the inlet pipe? If you were referring to the inlet (which I presume you are) then I agree it might be better nearer to the bottom.

    At 2:42 rather than doing a kill-off of snails - Take the excess snails out and feed them to your fish a few a day. It will help your fish-food bill and the fish will love you for them.

      Unless he's raising puffers the fish aren't going to eat them

      @@jmboulware if they are small ramshorn's, you might be able to smash then in an Aquarium and some fish will chow down on then. I used to do this in a community tank with tetras.

      @jmboulware 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AquariumThoughts you're absolutely right, I was thinking of leaving them alive/whole but crushing them would make them available to most any fish. Thanks for the correction!

      steven couch depending on what snail it is they can actually clog up the system.
