I'm so sad we didn't see this in the show. This moment showed me how strong and capable ellie truly was
I completely agree. I’ve been watching the show with my family, but I am the only one who has played the games. They didn’t understand why I was disappointed. But so far this has been the only thing I was disappointed about with the show. Overall I believe they are doing a good job.

I'm fine with how Joel gets stabbed in the show, but I really wish they matched Ellie's desperation when he faints. The show makes it seems like he died and she starts mourning him.
It's more of a panic on her part. Plus he's been having those mini panic attacks so she probably was already thinking he could die even before he got stabbed, so she was kind of already mentally prepared for it. Makes sense. I think making it look like he died was more for the viewers who don't know the story, so it's a cliffhanger for them.
I can't take it seriously seeing Ellie in a Bruce Lee outfit lol.

From the start of their journey where she didn’t trust him at all to literally sticking by his side til he was better and even as far as going on a journey to try and avenge his death. This story is just something amazing
But then she doesn’t actually avenge his death after killing hundreds of people and torturing several of them by not killing the one actual person who held the club. So you mean *started out as the most amazing story of all time

The fact is, Joel was beloved, was the main character of the first game, the guy we all got attached to. We wanted to see his murderer get her comeuppance. Or at least, half of us did, since tlou2 split up the fanbase. We don’t see that. Instead, we are forced to strangle Ellie and hurt her, spam square, as abby, Joel’s killer. Don’t tell me for one second that the storyline for the second game is good because it’s not. It’s a huge. Fucking. Mess

The show does a good job of giving us a more direct insight into the mind of Joel. He's refusing Ellie's help because he refuses to 'fail' again, and doesn't want to in anyway shape or form end up lesser than the person he's protecting, but he's still getting old. The idea of being 'lesser' terrifies him, because that's exactly what he thinks of the younger version of himself that 'let' Sarah die.
When I first played this I was like.. "Nah, they're not going to kill off Joel. He's the best main character. He'll be okay."
Said that to the 2nd one as well. I was pissed.

Even if they didn’t include the rebar scene in the show as nobody would survive that, this scene in the show definitely needed to:
A) be longer and have its own episode,
B) add more tension by having the scenes with Ellie saving Joel from more than just four dudes without guns
C) have Joel make it through at least one guy without getting bodied or seriously hurt
Joel is literally the most badass human outside of DoomGuy. Holy shit does he do what he needs to do.

It’s highly unlikely anyone would live if this happened IRL. The vascular damage would be bad, it’s likely his kidney got hit and he definitely got punctured in the intestines. He would’ve died from blood loss, if he didn’t, he would’ve died from septic shock from all the G.I fluids, if he didn’t die from the bile, he would’ve died from septic shock from the rust and other contaminants on the rebar. If that didn’t do it, Ellie’s injection with a dirty needle onto an unsterile site with probably expired medication would do it lol.
I think the people making the show did their research because 99% of the stuff that happens regularly in the game would kill anyone.

The way they did it in the show isn't bad, it's more logical, if this would've happened irl or in the show "humanly speaking" he would've cracked his head open and started bleeding, concussion, would've for sure fainted I'm pretty sure, so i think they could've made him fall from a shorter distance

Joel is such a fucking bad ass in the game. I love Pedros portrayal more because he reminds me a lot of Arthur from RDR2 in terms of an older man past his prime surviving in a world where most people his age wouldn’t be doing what he is.
It’s up to an you guys who you prefer but I really think the show Joel is still a bad ass considering he knows he’s too old, has anxiety attacks and doubts his strength. Puts it all aside to stay alive for Ellie though. He mentions to her during an episode that he actually hadn’t been outside the walls in years. That to me is telling that odds would be he should’ve died way before finding Tommy
I'm so excited for the show portrayal because it is going to make his actions with David's crew and the hospital so much more intense and visceral. He will finally be going rambo on people and it will be fresh and a surprise for new viewers. In the game he has been that way from the start so while intense it's not unexpected but in the show if he follows similar actions it will be almost a 180 from how he has acted so far besides a few moments (beating that guy to death in ep 1 and lots of mentions of how he has killed people).
I’m curious as to how Pedro pascal and Bella Ramsey will do when it comes to this scene…hope they portray it similar or at least change if different than this…who knows if Pedro’s Joel will get impaled or not but Damn Neill Druckmann is a Fucken legend

In the show Joel kills one guy and gets stabbed, in the game Joel gets impaled on rebar and is still killing fuckers, the show is really pussifying Joel and I hate it.
Although it would have been amazing and cool to see this part remade in the show I think it’s better how they are doing it a little mixed up because people who have played the games would already know exactly what happens

to be impaled from side to side at the level of the guts, without immediate care, you do not survive. Especially in a dirty environment like this and the rusty iron bar.. you know, intestinal infection and other pretty gifts. The series has at least managed the thing a little better.

I‘ve barely heard of people complaining about what you‘ve said. If anything, because of Joel‘s never ending endurance and perseverance in the first game, people thought he‘d be as badass and survival-proven as he seemed to be in the first game which just wasn’t the case in the second game. Now I‘m not pointing this out because I think it’s a flaw but rather because many other people have said that how Joel acts in Tlou2 doesn’t fit to him in their opinion.

One of the most powerful moments in the game that would have translated perfectly to TV that they just completely changed for no reason... the changes they made in the show didn't serve the plot any better than this would have and this is arguably a more intense and interesting scene than the tiny little scuffle they get into in the show.
A small girl lifting a heavy man perfectly straight off rebar is unrealistic, but it works in the game. It also made sense in the game for Ellie to be combat ready because players controlled her prior in combat situations and had her kill. In the show, she is barely getting used to combat so it wouldn't make sense for her to become Rambo all of a sudden,

@@acslater017 you play her as a sharpshooter for Joel once earlier. In the show she can't even hit straight with his rifle yet and has shot one guy in the back but didn't make the kill. She is not capable yet and Joel has shielded her more from doing things because he didn't want to care for her and have her care for him. Now she is being forced into the caretaker role with barely any experience so it will be interesting to see how she fares in the show.

@@Puttoskiss This was made for the game. What the show did was more realistic. I've even seen people complaining that Joel hasn't crafted a shiv yet. Like, it's not a game, it's a show. An impaled Joel and 14 year old Ellie beating dozens of raiders just wouldn't have made sense for the show, but it's great for an action sequence in the game. You see what I'm getting at?

i do feel like this is way better than in the show, however we've got to remember that they had to make only 9 episodes instead of 10. ellie will still (hopefully) have the time to truly show how capable she is by caring for the stabbed joel. i do really appreciate the show and i love it, i think tlou hbo deserves as much recognision as it gets right now, but ellie and joels relationship is way more developed at this point in game than it is in the show... kinda sad they didnt show more of their relationships evolution
I think their bond is great in the show and has really grown since the start. It's just a different take. In the show Joel has been the main caretaker up until this point. He doesn't want her to have to care for them both because he is scared of failing her (like he feels he has failed Sarah and everyone else) and because he doesn't want to care about her. So he takes care of everything and Ellie hasn't had much chance to prove herself (minus saving him a few times and taking watch when he fell asleep). So she isn't in a place in the show to be shooting tons of guys and dragging him to safety. She isn't shooting guys and stuff a ton like in the game as a support character. So in the show she is now going to be suddenly forced into the caretaker role with little experience (since Joel has now failed like he feared he would but we won't get into that here). I can't wait to see how she struggles and then learns through sheer need to become the badass other half of their duo we know she can be. And for Joel to see it and recognize fully that she is his family.
Personally I do prefer the show’s version of Joel’s injury. I mean, fall from the first floor and landing on your back while getting IMPALED in the process just does not seem like a believable thing to recover so fast from. His spine would’ve been broken.
