There a great book series by Anne Perry about Thomas Pitt, a detective, and the society woman he falls in love with and marries. They tried aTV version of it but it didn’t fly. The book series is marvelous, though! Very reminiscent of this series v

I now understand that Eliza and William don't actually end up together. I can't believe that, this is the reason most people watch it. I just feel I can't watch this now, it's too disappointing.
If you liked this series, I highly recommend watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries! It’s set in 1920s Australia, with a very similar dynamic between the two leads. Miss Phryne Fisher starts her own detective agency, defies social convention, and does what she wants. She often works with (and irritates) Detective Inspector Jack Robinson, who is usually exasperated by her in a very amusing manner. The show has mutual pining, lots of banter, and a great supporting cast with their own storylines. There’s 3 seasons and a movie (hopefully with more to come).

I was hoping this series would be based on Sherry Thomas’s books whose main character is Charlotte Holmes . Those are wonderful stories of an unapologetic woman making living life more or less on her terms. Very entertaining.
