Dr. Rania Awaad is a practicing Psychiatrist based at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a Clinical Instructor in the Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and pursues her clinical practice through the department’s community psychiatric track. She is passionate about mental health and works he is passionate about mental health and works extensively, locally, nationally, and inter-nationally creating a spiritual wellness with the application of traditional Islamic spiritual healing methods to modern clinical psychology. Prior to studying medicine, Dr. Awaad pursued classical Islamic Studies in Damascus, Syria and holds certification (Ijaza) in Qur’an, Islamic Law and other branches of the Islamic Sciences. She is a Professor of Islamic Law at Zaytuna College, an American Muslim Liberal Art College in Berkeley, CA. In addition, she serves as the Director of The Rahmah Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Muslim women and girls. What a beautiful story. This makes me sad though because I am a convert, and as such, I have a lot of people around me who are interested in Islam who don't know anything about it. One of the biggest mistakes I made was taking a friend with me to the mosque and she was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and they wanted her to put on a scarf and a skirt. they were soo rude to her. after that day she never asked me about Islam again. she never went to a mosque with me again. I will never ever take any of my female friends to mosques again. Muslims treat women so badly when they dont cover. its shameful.

Sorry sister but even lady di or Queen Elizabeth covers by respect when they went to visit mosques.. She has to work on her ego and to be humble... And sisters in the mosque should be more gentle and diplomatic Allah is watching everybody ... Don't worry if she is really interested she will come back somehow. Allah knows the best
Why don't you explain the situation to your friend and make her warmed up again and instead of stopping taking your girl friends to mosque tell them this is what they need to do when they go in so there will be no arguments or disrespect at all.
If she was to visit a church, mandir Gurduwara or synagogue in shorts it would still be inappropriate as most of these religions require respectful l clothing n their places of worship.
Very sorry to hear this story of bad behavior of certain Muslims in the mosque … anyone who visits a mosque is a guest and should be respected by all Muslims.
