- Mario flash games, and flash games based on other franchises in general, have gotten a mostly bad reputation over the years. Countless Mario flash games are shameless bootlegs shambled together to make a quick buck off of the franchise's popularity. However, many Mario flash games are actually created by fans out of love for the series. So, which side of the spectrum do Super Mario Flash and its sequel fall under, and how do they hold up today? Let's find out! Get ready for lots of bad attempts at humor and me complaining about difficulty!

Just to be personal here for a minute these mario flash games were actually my introduction to the franchise. And for the longest time they were really the only video games based off an iconic well known character I ever played. Until later on when my uncle bought me a 3ds as a birthday girft and I actually got to play an official mario game on there

Nice video! Not sure if you're aware but levelpalace.com has Super Mario Flash 3, which uses SMF2 as a template but adds many more sprites and features. SMF2 also has a few updates such as multiple checkpoints.

@@seanyproductions yaa, they were modded. A few days ago, Super Mario Construct also came out on LP. It's a browser-based editor that is far more advanced and customisable, and it was made by a member of the smf community to replace smf because we didn't want our community to die lol. If you head to the Level Palace TH-cam account you'll see its trailer, it's pretty cool!

"Why is game SO HARD??" Maybe the developer was a hardcore gamer just like the guy who made Battletoads. It may be one of those cases where the game is kinda ruined because the devs kept making harder levels because they weren't challenging enough to them.

So as a flash game dev,
You said that you were upset bc that the jump wasn’t pressure sensitive and I can say that that would be impossible due to most (I have mainly used a few) softwares they don’t have that option especially in 2007-2011
While pressure sensitive jumps would be impossible to implement for obvious reasons, he was talking about jumps which have their jump height controlled by how long you hold the up button, which would be a lot easier to implement. Furthermore, while I'm not familiar with Flash, I'm certain that it has some way that can allow you to write code, and with code you can do basically anything as long as you're clever enough in the way you manipulate it.

Flash games was only way of playing games at school, thats why they were the best (coolmathgames especially)
What about Super Mario Construct? It's basically a revived version of SMF2 made in Construct and I think it's currently only a level editor.
You really should play the SMW remake of Flash 2.

The location behavior is a thing in the actual super Mario world so you can't fully complain about that
Actually no, in SMW when you die the world map puts you on the level you were just attempting. In SMF, the map instead puts you on the last level you completed.
I think some official Mario games do it, like Mario 3, but World doesn’t.

So I think it HAS to be an image URL, not an image from your computer.

If you think Super Mario Flash's Gameplay is hard, trust me when i say Akron & The Greatest Pollution are both, The Hardest Bosses in any Flash Games.

@Signs and symbols 2 it's actually a rom hack called super mario flash 3 but flash is dead rip so you can't play it anymore
Check super mario flash 2 ver.c and super mario flash 3. They are a bit better

Here after all the online databases for user-made levels went offline. Huge piece of history gone off the internet. Granted, it's mostly dumb levels made by kids, but it's still kinda sad.
Played both of them as a child, and it never gets old. Too bad flash is gone.

There has actually been a romhack thats goal was to remake SMF2 for the snes. It feels and plays so much better mostly because it actually has Super Mario World's physics. It was made recently only about a year ago
By the way, the author's website is gone so that's unfortunate.

This was a pretty good summery on your take on these two games, but there are things I find missing in this video. Mainly, these things are the hacks of both SMF1 and SMF2 as well as Super Mario Construct.
I didn’t know about those when I made this video, but even if I did I probably wouldn’t have spent much time on them since they’re not part of the “official” SMF series made by pouetpu.
Also flash 2 finally solves the much complained about problem of boom boom rooms not being dificult enough, by making him able to kill you any time he wants.
