    This may sound dumb but I have to ask! Where is the music coming from? Spotify or do we have to burn cds etc then upload them? Or can you search a song on the web and play it directly?

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Different places. Either rip from a CD (bit old school) or download from a service like Beatport - full list: radio.co/blog/find-music-for-your-radio-station

    Hi I am from Trinidad. 1. Would I be able to set up an online Radio from the Caribbean and I need to know the process from the start to open my own business ? 2. Can I download my own music eg. Calypso music ? 3. How do you get an audience and know that they are tuning into your radio station ? 4 How long will it take for an audience to be listening to your station ?5. Can I place ads on the radio station in order to be paid ? Thanks

    I keep hearing everyone say how fast and easy this is to do, but from the research i have done it isn't at all. From what i have found out its $1000 dollars a yr just for a license in America. That is not including the Royalties... which from what others have told me can run from 1 thousand to $1500 a month depending on just how much you actually play. Also depends on the number of listeners. Sorry but i am not rich, and never have enough money to do something like this, I would need to charge people at least 5 to $10 dollars a piece just to cover the royalties not to mention the license fee, and the costs of each song i would need to buy as time goes on and to stay with current hits. and then the computers monitors, and other equipment to make the station better. Nobody wants commercials in their music anymore so ads are out of the question for any extra revenue, so how exactly is this so easy??

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Valid points Scott. But in terms of licensing in the US, you just need SoundExchange (if you're broadcasting online and not in public spaces). Prices vary, usually dependent on number of listeners, tracks played, station revenue, etc. In terms of actually broadcasting online, it is easy. But can get complicated when you have multiple microphones, mixers, and loads of other equipment. Each station owner is different - check out Foundation FM for example: radio.co/case-studies/foundation-fm
      Having said all that, I don't think a comment on TH-cam is going to change your mind. Instead, chat with us and we'll go into detail about what you need, how to do it, and how much it costs at studio@radio.co.

    I mobile DJ'd for over 15 years, I still own my equipment, and cd's, I never went to the digital side, I like to hold the cd, swap and so on as needed. I would love to be able to take this to my own station now, I am getting too old to move old equipment and too old to do much of anything. I would love my own station. I still own my amp, dual player, mixer board, and mic. What else is required? I dont mind doing royalty thing either, they need their money also to keep us in business. Please tell me about the royalties issue as soon as you can please. Any other help? Thanks all.

    Yes, I'm interest in getting started with internet radio I have a passion when it comes to music, on a broadcasting level. I just have some concerns about the licensing when it comes to broadcasting copyrighted music, and designing a website to showcase my playlist and other ideas. My love and passion for this broadcasting platform has always been there. I just need a way to express it. Bytheway I don't have any experience in this field, but my love for entertaining people and communicating ideas and promoting artist is something I've always want to do. And it's never too late to start. If you knew my age you would see why I made that statement LOL! I am looking forward to doing the hard work and to the Future. Love, Peace, Soul and Old Skool Fever. what are the legal consequences (copyrights) of establishing an internet radio station?

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That depends on your country's laws, what you intend to broadcast, and where you're broadcasting to. We recommend reading the following to understand music, licensing, and royalties for your online radio station: help.radio.co/your-account-billing-and-tips/tips/music-licensing-royalties

    • @CThompson17
      @CThompson17 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In the US, you need a license to broadcast copyrighted material on the internet. One place to look for a license is StreamLicensing.com. If your audience is small and the amount of revenue is as well, then plans start at $60/month with a $20 one-time fee. It's the cheapest one I've found so far, but it is incredibly expensive.

    Are the musics being played not subjected to copyright?

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends what type of music is played. If commercial music, like the top 40, then you'll most likely need a license to cover you. Speaking of which: radio.co/blog/radio-broadcasting-licence

    Since you posted this vid it looks as though streaming platforms like Spotify are beating radio stations, both real and virtual!

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spotify is no doubt doing incredibly well, but it's not a streaming platform as it focuses on on-demand content. We go into more detail about this and more at: radio.co/blog/radio-streaming-services

    • @TheStoneWhisperer
      @TheStoneWhisperer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!!! I agree! The likes of Spotify and Pandora are killing the online radio. Streaming is great when you want to watch a movie or listen to commentary, but music in particular is OWNED almost 100% now by the likes of Spotify & Pandora! And since music is my passion, I really am struggling to find the viability in paying for the costs of a radio station. It's all so convoluted and captured by the big two. I know the likes of Spotify is not about streaming live, but who do you think really cares anymore? People's attention span has become so freaking short, they want their music NOW and in their own way. I will give you an example: I am an UBER Black driver in L.A. and I can't tell you how many times a group of people will get in my car and when they find out it's a radio station (no, not a standard FM, but an online station), they want to immediately plug in their iphone to my system and play their custom play lists from their Spotify. People want demand radio and the music THEY like best! So, good luck with an online radio station!

    The main issue is music licensing. Do you have to have PPL and PRS?

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you intend to broadcast commercial music, then yes. PPL and PRS are the main UK broadcasting licenses for online radio. Together, they offer a Limited Online Music License (LOML) which should cover you - more at: www.prsformusic.com/licences/using-music-online/limited-online-music-licence

  • @MsCharlieBrown78

    I was informed by other professionals that if you are playing music on your station, then a small internet broadcasters license is required.

    • @Radiodotco
      @Radiodotco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The type of license depends on where you broadcast from, what you play, and your listener figures - For more on music licensing head here: help.radio.co/knowledge_base/topics/music-licensing-and-royalties

What I am looking for is someone to run that radio network because I don't want to drive it...its a business deal I'm sure the founder/management would want in on. Could you advise if that possible as I am on the look out for someone to cope with that for me, so I have more time to focus on other areas in my companies. Thank you!
