You can indeed use a mixer when it comes to broadcasting live! Our radio offers function using Icecast. Virtual DJ is indeed compatible with our services. From the sounds of it, the station creator needs to handle the licensing. This can be tricky since you're allowing people to upload their own tracks rather than use a fully licenced central library. For example, there's likely to be issues with obscure labels, unreleased tracks or dub plates. However well meaning the station owner, some tracks might not be with affiliated labels ... so, this could result in a rather nasty surprise for the station owner. no? So, my questions are : 1. Does radioking take any measures to protect or properly inform their station owners - Or are they expected to navigate royalties and licensing themselves? 2. Also, do you support live DJ'ing, and is this through a single talk channel? If so, what is the maximum supported bandwidth and codec on those remote inputs. My suggestions : Perhaps you could take the pain and worry out of this by, optionally, handling the licensing centrally and providing a centrally audited music database - for those users who might not want to deal with such issues. I envisage a specific tier of subscription service for this, or perhaps a 'license safe' setting in the station administrators options that would prevent track uploads and thus restrict, as far as practicable, DJ's to a safe music database. I ask because a friend of mine once had his streamcasting music station fined an absolutely outrageous amount (and I mean, truly outrageous) all because two of his DJ's had naively started playing underground unreleased dub plates on their scheduled segment. As I'm sure you'll appreciated - the fun ended rather abruptly, as did the station and several friendships : /
