Delbert McClinton is the ultimate blues-rock badass. What a freaking incredible voice. And Lee Roy Parnell never got the credit he deserves. He is an incredible guitarist.
I got to meet Leroy and his band in a little roadhouse in the woods outside Bryan, Texas in about 1982 or 1983, before they'd gotten any record deals. I went there cause I had run into Leroy's little brother Rob earlier that day in College Station and he told me where it was. Rob was playing harmonica, of course! They rocked! and also did some very cool bluesy tunes and "Green Onions".
This guy has SOUL!!!! If I could only use the word ''awesome'' once to describe something on Earth, it would be Delbert. I have been at a bad place in my life lately... I don't mean to complain... but I can be crying and so down about my situation, but I listen to Delbert and I literally forget why I was sad. I don't think he'll see this, but I hope so, thank you so much for this wonderful music, it has brought joy to me at a bad time in life.
Yeah! Great performance, and it sounds like they just road-mapped it before the show but never ran the ending. There were a couple different endings going on, but a pro will make good fun out of that, and there's only pros up there.
LeeRoy Parnell is one of the most underrated guitar picker/singer/song writers there is, it’s a shame. He had a string of hits in the 90s then kinda disappeared. ☹️
I have seen him maybe 10 times over a period of 45 years. Never have seen him not give a great show. Clearly doing what he loves.. Writes great songs. Grammy for original music in late 70s. Getting better like fine two more bottles of wine. I once saw him give an evening outdoors show aon a portable stage about 25 years ago. After an hour or so a hard rain started, and the band had to take cover. I'd say 90% of the crowd left in a mass exodus figuring the show was over. After about a half hour it stopped raining, and he came back out and played maybe another hour for the hardy souls still out there. I was glad I was among the fanatic 10%. I was right in front of the stage. Tell me one more great musician who would have reappeared in that scenario. Delbert, I wanna thank you....
a younger co-worker and good friend came to work one day with a Delbert McClinton bumper sticker on his lunch box, I asked who is that and he opened the box and handed me a Delbert McClinton cd titled "The Jealous Kind" it turned out to be one of the best musical gifts I have ever received. I am now the proud owner of all of Delbert's cds and a die hard fan.
@@cvdixon29, not even. I suggest you listen to real Country Music from The Carter Girls, Anita is in a league of her own. Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson, Patty Loveless, Pearl Butler, even Loretta Mooney, Loretta Lynn Morgan. Alison Krauss, (count her grammys), the list goes on. Is Martina better than the slags being dumped on us today, heavens yes. Waaaaaay better. God bless her.
Martina... you were my absolute idol for 23 years (1993-2016). I remember those times in 1993. I was a 10-year-old 4th grader then and I would RUN home from school to be home earlier than my mom so I could put on your CD. I hated your husband because of course it was ME you had been supposed to marry. :{D> Then in 1996 I became a member of your Nashvillean fan club (as the only Czech member then I believe). And then in 2015 once again, for a year before leaving you for Bonnie Tyler (sorry...) I gladly listened to you today again after all those years and reminded myself of the fact that you still rock!
I''ve been singing Two More Bottles of Wine for years, but never knew this amazing man, Delbert wrote it! I love his version much better than the great Emmylou's version. Well this one is really rocking!! I checked him out and Delbert's voice and love of this music (boogie) has made him a favourite of mine! I LOVE to watch him moving around with such joy when he sings! I'd sing with him anytime! Take note Del! Love ya man!
I love BOTH versions equally. Each one has their own charm and vibe. The Emmylou version is the "original" for me and the one I heard for the first time many moons ago. That one has a very "country" vibe, of course. This one (which I just heard recently), has a very country-rock / blues / soul feel to it, and is really great as well. Each one, great for the mood you're in at the time!! 😀
Whoa Delbert just blows the rest out of the water. The albums don't do him justice, the concerts are stunningly good. The best I've ever heard. I hope I get to see him at least once more, better yet a million more times!
Just love Martina McBride and Delbert McClinton. They are so awesome. Whenever I fire up the computer, invariably I always play this song, and "read me my rights" by Delbert. Thanks for posting.
Thought Vince Gill and Sheryl Crow's version was good then accidentally clicked on this clip. WOW! I cannot believe I've never heard of him. That raspy, crackling, busted up voice right on key. I spent hours now checking out his music. Thanks Delbert!
Hits the spot, for sure! LOVE LOVE LOVE Delbert McClinton and Leroy Parnell. Have enjoyed their music for decades. Not sure who Martina McBride is, but she can sing, looks like.
He s one of the best masculin voices.. I ve disvovered him singing with Tanya Tucker... Tell me about it... And so I wanted to here more songs by Delbert... Super...
Wish somewhere someone has a video of Delbert and Joe Ely live at The Rox in Lubbock TX, 1974 or so. I was working there at the time. Freaking awesome show in a small club. 45 on, 15 off. Not a concert.
Lived in Lubbock TX in the 70's and worked at a night club "The Rox" and Delbert came in with local fella Joe Ely and they did a show. Damn. Didn't know Delbert was from Lubbock. LOL He wrote this, Emmy Lou did a fantastic cover but hearing the author perform it... well...
Saw Delbert in Houston 3 times in the early/mid '90s. A force of nature (he still had his full voice then, but even 1/2 a Delbert voice is a force). And I had bought a couple records in the '80s when I was in Cali so I "thought" I knew what to expect. Pretty much Pentacostal/soul singing on speed. Great concerts.

My favorite version of this song ! Sorry Emmylou love you !!!
My favourite version also😊
Emmy lou is much better Delbert is a good writer but a horrible singer
His voice has always tore up. Been a fan of Delbert for years.
Me, too. He’s such fun!
He's a screamer, singing about two octaves above what he should be. Screeching at best.
Delbert McClinton is the ultimate blues-rock badass. What a freaking incredible voice. And Lee Roy Parnell never got the credit he deserves. He is an incredible guitarist.
Amen to both of those! I will add that Lee Roy is one of the nicest, funniest, down to earth persons I have ever met.
Yes it's true
Got that right! I love the guitar work on Lee Roy's albums, and he is SUCH a good performer.
Saw him iat a farm in Maumelle Arkansas July 4th in the 90's. He played Zeppelin, The Band and About 2 hours of killer music. He's got my respect
My wife and I have seen Delbert McClinton in the Jacksonville area five times and we're never never ever disappointed
Martina is the really country babe! Man Delbert can wail.
Delbert is a true secret of blues, country and soul music.
You are so right. We discovered him in the 70's playing at the Childe Harold in DC, and followed him forever.
Look at Lee Roy Parnell on guitar!!
🌸❤️
Can't go wrong with Delbert and Martina!
John hobbs on keys WOW saw him with The Hellecasters Triple WOW
Love it! Nobody can rock the Texas Blues like Delbert!

Here I am again listening Delbert. Joe my ex husband play his harmonica with you in myrtle beach sc. Im sure you remember that.

Love Delbert’s grassy voice. He rocks!!
I love the fact that Delbert McClinton always looks like he’d be the guy doing your taxes. 😎
They don't make em' like these two anymore. Cherish this video!
Fantastic. Man can I see John Fogerty singing this. I can just imagine if CCR covered this back in the day. They would have killed it.
So would Amanda Lear, Bonnie Tyler, Kim Carnes, and Rod Stewart.
