Joe Leahy was a hard working man, who contributed to the development of coffee in the Highlands of PNG. His father was a white man and his mother a local woman, which means that he had no right to land in the Highlands. However, he was successful to have acquired traditional land from the Ganika tribe through a 99-year lease and built his coffee empire. He did help the tribe by going into a joint-venture partnership with them to start up their own coffee business. Most of the Highlanders back in the days were uneducated and did not work well with Joe to expand the coffee plantation. Joe Leahy gave them the opportunity but they didn't made use of it. Joe Leahy is a true Papua New Guinean.

How old is he now? One of the true leader of the Ganiga tribe in WHP!

He is in his late 70's now. Still lives in the plantation.

Reply to Didi Leahy - interestingly, we used his documentary video as a case study on leadership taught by Dean Williams in the last 2 days here in Singapore. Very rich discussions on how Joe could have done better as an entrepreneur leader.

@@zihannan6869 Not to mention that the trilogy - First Contact; Joe Leah and his neighbours and Black Harvest served as a text to many anthropology courses in universities without PNG.
