England haven’t won a major tournament for 60yrs because they are just not good enough. The players we produce are not good enough. It’s simple. We’ve never been good enough to dominate games against top teams because we don’t have good enough players.
The problem we have is that there is always a better team than England in these tournaments. You have to be the best team to win it and we never are.

If Gareth Southgate had young players like Nico Williams jnr and Lamine Yamal he will bench them . E gland had a good squad from EPL but they were not properly utilised.
They were better drilled and more composed. Every player knew what they had to do, when needed the right chsnges were made. It seemed as if they had more players on the pitch, I suppose thats what happens when you play superior opposition. In fact I was frightend we were going to get hammered at one point. We had a fortunate path to the final, and frankly lucky to come away with the result we did.

I cant remember an England team that has dominated teams in any tournament and when they play the top tiee teams they are invariably played off the park. As in always. There is no mystery why. Englands players are not good enough. They have never been. The noise and hype around the premiership builds English players to be better than they are. They have poor technical skills so cant receive the ball under pressure and struggle to move on the half turn, they are incapable of of playing in tight spaces or pass through the lines. Ponderous and predictable they invariably go down the wings. Their players are mediocre and overhyped

Player types in bracket 2 will go further with lesser talented player types that are in 1 but the inverse isn't true. However they still will only get you so far without player 1 types. England have had only had 2 type 2 players in the last 30 years (Scholes, Carrick) they never appreciated either. That's ultimately what they need to change to win something

Spain winning the Nations league whilst England got relegated and finished bottom of their group containing Hungary, should have indicated they’d lose to the first decent team they would meet at the Euros.

You can't analyse this with emotions you have to be balanced... Kane whether you like him or not is worldclass and before this tournament was heralded as the best no9 in the world. This is why he is getting so much criticism. For me he looks injured and the camp is hiding it. A good midfielder makes a great striker. But our world class midfield were stifled by our coach. Foden and Bellingham were not allowed to be great they were shackled to preserve a defensive shape. Deployed in positions that did not allow them to be great. Kane has always needed pacey wingers, Son, Sterling, Sane, but Gareth refused to play gordan! Mainoo is the future and was great but papered over the cracks same as Palmer. Trippier at LB was a crime and just added to the lack of balance. Southgate not trusting any other lb in the prem is a huge insult to them. There are players capable of doing what trippier did and better. Southgate barely gave anyone one a chance and that is why I now understand why white chose to stay at home. Southgate is a bad coach with bad tactics. Any other prem manager would have won this tournament with this squad... anyone who can't see that is lying to them selves. All he needed to do was first of all pick your best 3 players and put them jn their favoured position or surroundings to get the best out of them.... kane, Bellingham and foden. This means kane up top with speed either side and Bellingham amd foden just behind as to 10s or 8s. Rice holding. Then the normal back line with shaw at LB. Simple 433 - gordan, Kane, Saka

This would have brought the best out of your worldclass players and the rest of the squad would have felt comfortable coming on into those positions when needed. Southgate has always been a bad coach always. The players can't come out and criticise so they back him and go on the pitch but it is clear by their performances that they actually don't rate him or trust him. If they speak up look at what happened to white. People need to open their eyes... the FA need to go all out to get Klopp, not only will England win a major tournament but the football will be exciting and the players will believe.

Without Giroud France wouldn`t have won the 2018 WC. He did not score but created space for other players by his movements and assisted several gols by head. In 2022 he scored 4 goals for France at the age of 36.

Coach was difference. They can a better, more cohesive shape, pressed higher and kept on front foot. Southgate, as usual, was too defensive, Kane was immobile, sat back and only looked good when they went forward.

The better team does not always win. Which is why we watch football. For all that “Spain are the better team”, it was still a defeat by a goal just 4 mins from time, and even after that England had 3 headers in a couple of seconds to take the game to extra time. Chances that should have been taken.
Who knows what might have happened then, especially if Southgate decided finally - at long last - in extra time to unleash the pace and energy of Gordon on the left against a tiring Spain defence. We shall never know. Pity. Would have been brilliant to watch. Ah well, until the next time…

- vacated the left side of the pitch by not playing a genuine left winger with pace
- refused to take a single fit left back
- played a patently unfit Harry Kane when he had two good attackers to come in
AND would have played one of Bellingham and Foden

- Went 44 years after the Euros win in 1964 before winning another major international competition

England have some very good players. And that is why in the last 4 big competitions considered together they have done better than Spain. They lost two Euros finals narrowly, a WC semi final (2018), and a QF to France (2022), the then world champions.
If and when England get a real tactician as coach to match Spain’s excellent coach, I believe any game between Spain and England in future is a 50-50 game.

I disagree. Imo, Spain had difficulties in it imposing their game on England especially in the final third of the pitch. England had an equal chances to win the game. Southgate had his starting 11 wrong. Starters should be : Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Shaw, Declan, Jude ( as no 8 ), Saka, Bowen, Palmer ( as no 10 ) & Watkins.
