6/30/2014 Morris, IL Possible Tornado and Storm Damage At Night

- A second line of severe storms blasted across IL bringing tons more damaging winds to a region battered only hours earlier by a derecho that plowed across Iowa into Illinois.
This storm went on to be tornado warned after it moved through Morris and radar had a hook within the line move over town. Power flashes moved across my view from northwest to southeast across my view and tree damage was laid out in multiple directions.
Scene 1-5: Various shots of extremely vivid and long power flashes looking due west from US-6 near the IL-47 junction just south of I-80.
Scene 6-9: Shots of emergency crews behind numerous downed trees blocking the road.
Scene 10: Fire truck turns the corner near pounding.
Scene 11: Man walking near down trees.
Scene 12-14: Part of a gas station awning torn off.
Scene 15-25: Various damage shots of tree limbs blocking roads, on vehicles, or down in yards.

I live just west of Morris and went into my basement with my cat. I heard things hit the window and the garage rattling followed by unbelievable wind noises. I went upstairs and there were 5 two-by-fours in my yard. I found out later that an EF1 tornado just missed my town.
Wow! Impressive footage during the severe wind event, and some good shots of damage!
I don't quite know what to make of the motion in the clouds (?) or rain curtains (?) that could be briefly seen during power flashes or lightning discharges. Whatever it was, it was moving at an impressive velocity from right to left! Its speed seemed consistent from flash to flash, rather than building up and weakening like strong winds usually do, but then I have never been really close to a microburst or dangerous/damaging straight-line wind event, so what do I know? lol. Nevertheless, I wonder if you were seeing a wide EF-0 or EF-1 tornado.
Whatever it was, it had some kick to it, because that large tree that was snapped in half did not look that old or unhealthy. Those were some good winds in there for sure! Given that, I am surprised that the houses in the vicinity of that tree didn't display any damage worth noting or recording.

We are in Goose Lake about 5 miles east of Morris. The scene here looked very much like the video here. There are many trees down on our property but sustained no damage to any structures. There is debris, leaves, dirt, and mud splattered on the windward side of the house. Still without electricity this morning. Time to go start cleaning up.

the worst part about seeing this is that this very tornado crossed the road of the street next to me. yes. I live in morris il and I am 13 years old, so at the time I was only like 10. scary right?

i was where the storm hit. it wasnt too bad for me, only high winds, gusts, and the lightning was REALLY close. i was lucky. only a few miles away, people were saying that it was like "a hurricane on land". lets hope no one got hurt.
There was a Tornado in Cook County. Well a warning was placed. And the day before there was one at like 2 am for McHenry
yeah. there was a tornado warning for me, and i knew that there were 2 EF-1 tornadoes somewhere in Illinios. I was in an area of cook county where there wasn't a tornado. i guess the storm took the lives of 2 poor people D:
