    This crack, only recently exposed from its hiding place in the Earth, is part of Africa's Great Rift Valley. How do you think this geological discovery may impact the surrounding areas?

      small lakes and streams will join and become an ocean
      look at madagascar, that's how it started
      then look at lake victoria and lake malawi
      I wouldn't be surprised if that all goes in one piece, possibly those lakes are getting wider

    "A completely separate continent isn't expected for 50 million years." There's no way I'm sticking around to witness that. Given the mind boggling amount of stuff I can get done in 50 million years, it would be a grand waste of time for me to sit there staring at the ground just so I can impress my friends with, "I was there and saw the WHOLE thing as it was unfolding."

    I noticed the crack about 5 years ago, it was sunk in about 12 inches. But it was for like maybe 1 mile... now it's really noticeable, looks like its going to separate, once it fills in with water. Africa is not the only country, there's others that are separating. People don't pay attention to, until it's too late.

    Did grand canyon originate the same way?

    • @hubbletrubble7875
      @hubbletrubble7875 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the grand canyon was caused by a river carving into land that was elevated because the Farallon/Pacific plate was dipping under the north american plate
      basically
      farallon/pacific plate goes under North American Plate
      This causes the North American Plate to be pushed up
      Much later a river cuts through the land to take a shorter path to the ground

    2 years later, lakes within Rift Valley continue to rise. Are rift valley tectonics plates moving closer or away from each other? Probably the crack suggested something worth investigating. Mt longonot, a dormant volcano that last erupted in 1863 lies in the same region. It can still erupt?
