Discovered Anarchy was an actual thing around 17 after years of being called delusional and miserable.Been a part of it 11 years now.We basically spend our younger years being forced into boxes to tick, then forced into jobs that you can't live on without help(which only the lucky get),then retire at almost 70 and eventually be stuck in a retirement home while the top rich bleed you of all your life savings ,and take the house you spent your life working to buy away from you.

How can you expect him to act as though he already lives in an anarchist system?
It's like saying "I wish in the future we had an airport" and then you saying "well you're not using an airport right now so you're a hypocrite". Like the airport isn't built yet that's literally what he's advocating for.

I love reading anarchist philosophy and have found it to be extremely helpful in forming my own dissident political positions. Whether you are red team, blue team, Stalinist, etc., learning about anarchist criticisms of society will help you be stronger in your own worldview. I believe the most helpful aspect of studying anarchist thought is that it can break people out of worshipping politicians, which is certainly a massive issue in American society today, so I thank you ER for making this video and exposing people to worthwhile anarchist writing.

My problem with primivitism as opposed to other branches of anarchism (syndicalism, mutualism, etc) is that it seems to reject science and technology that would let some of us live past the age of 8 (like insulin for diabetics) or not dying from stepping on something sharp. But I'll keep watching to see if you address its flaws.

@@Yasha277 Anarchism-- and by definition, Anarchists, do not exist in the absence of laws. Mutualism necessitates a respect for how we engage with one another which, in turn, gives rise to social customs which become rules. What you are describing is Anarchy. Anarchism is not Anarchy. The rest, I agree with. There's a correlation with advances in technology and the average human lifespan, as well as the Years of Potential Life Loss (YPLL) metric so modern medicine is certainly a boon. The beauty of anarchism; however, is that the different subcultures choose their level of engagement and do not attempt to dominate one another.

Case in point, at 11:15 you say our hunter gatherer ancestors were effectively anarchists. They really were not and the they certainly were not "getting along in a utopia" with each other. The current structure the west lives under is without a doubt the best possible version of our society. People can become victims of capitalism in a way. But i challenge you to find a single aspect of life in which someone is not suffering. Capitalism fuels advancment in every industry. Tech, medicine, business, manufacturing. Everything. If humans could turn back the clock to the beginning of society, and never adopt capitalism, instead following anarchism, the world would almost certainly be a bleaker, less advanced, less survivable place than the one we currebtly live in. Again. I won't argue that everyone is living the best life they can under Capitalism. But capitalism is what keeps society producing high quality necessities at lighting fast speed. Just ask former communist countries like russia that now are capitalist. The idea that throwing out such a efficient system will be a net positive is not realistic. And suggesting the abscence of any system, anarchism, is probably the fastest way to ensure that the lifespan of the average human is halved in the next 500 years.

But I must say they did not have the time and power to even establish a government. They were constantly battling to survive a day at a time, so they basically had no choice. Anarchism may have “worked” tens of thousands of years ago, but it won’t work in the modern world where almost every inch of land is owned by someone or some entity, namely government.

Tbh I agree with ER. We should have stayed primitive. From what research I’ve done, the primitive peoples of north sentinel island haven’t even discovered fire yet, and they have a more civilized and equal community between them.

Huh, I didn't know that about them. It's also interesting they haven't figured out how to make boats and tried reaching mainland, but then again maybe they've tried and just were unsuccessful. But I find it fascinating these people still exist.

Having recently discovered the _actual_ meaning of anarchism, I finally found a name for the worldview through which I perceive my reality.
I'm here to learn more about what I now know to be comfortable and reasonable for myself.
