    The sad part is the profit margins are so small for these owners, so when thieves are stealing they are basically pushing the owners to close their business.

      Almost makes you wonder if owning a business is even worth it. Seems like 80 percent of businesses are 1 disaster away from going out of business. For example, I know they always say they can't afford to pay employees a higher minimum wage. That means a lot of businesses are financially unstable. The bigger companies are mainly just greedy and don't want to take on more expenses. But many small businesses seem like they're 2 seconds away from closing.

      Not true, lmao. I have family friends that own convenience stores in the hood. They made so much money that they could afford to buy an entire plaza and a mansion for their family. There's a reason why they do business in the hood. It pays well and has relatively cheap entry cost due to high crime.

    • @aa-hf2bj

      That said, that doesn't justify stealing.

      @@aa-hf2bj no that is NOT true. I live in Chicago, and large retailers like Aldi and Whole Foods Market have opened stores in high-crime neighborhoods (like Englewood) only to later close those stores after a couple of years (we know why).
      If shrinkage affects a large retailer like Whole Foods (which is owned by Amazon) then you know what it does to an immigrant from India or Honduras surviving off a secured loan.

    Yesterday I was in Walgreens waiting for someone to unlock the body wash cabinet. I was becoming annoyed I was having to wait after a few minutes, but then I realized why nobody was coming to unlock the cabinet. Because the employees were busy worrying about a group of "juveniles" that were in there stealing at the same time I'm waiting. Of course I don't blame the store. The only other option is the store closes and then I have to go further away

No. And pull a GUN on a clerk? That will get you shot. If not by the store owner or clerk (big box stores prohibit carry by employees anyway), but by a citizen lawfully carrying. The very first Grocery stores, the customer came to the counter, and handed over a list of items. The Owner or a staff person, would leave, go fill the list and come back with the basket or cart and then they would ring it up.
    It wasn't until the 1920s that the customer 'shopped' for themselves. Maybe we should bring that back, but with only a small window in which to hand over the list, and no access to the products by the customers at all. Might be hellava lot safer for the bodega owners.

Customers could order there product from outside the store window. The store employee goes and grabs the product and customer pays for it than the employee hands it to them through the window. Customers don't have to step in the store period. They also could do that right in the front entrance door too. Rather than locking everything up, making all customers feel like they're thiefs.

    Where is the NYPD?

    • @blueorangeblossom
      @blueorangeblossom ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mostly short staffed…overworked, the Bronx NYPD were crippled by the defund the police movement and lost officers to that as well as during Covid mandates. They were defunded and demoralized intentionally and docked millions in funding. Officers quit, they were let go. It was made plain by the city that police are not wanted, needed or undesirable. They shrunk the Bronx offices…Now due to soft on crime law changes criminals cannot be held unless they murder someone, drug use and selling is not criminalized, and armed robbery is fine unless you murder someone. Prostitution is not treated as a crime either. You might spend two nights in jail for armed robbery, and even if you have a order of protection a person they have to attack you for the police to worry about it. Of course it’s the height of irony that people who punished the police and defunded them are now wanting protection and there is rampant lawlessness…I’m sure the many police who held public protests find it ironic as well since they really tried to fight the city, now the subway had a 60% increase in crime…u can’t walk around after dark in the Bronx.
