Two super cool proggy sci-fi space "experiences"! I live for ultra creative, outside the box music such as this... Thanks for watching! 🚀🌌☄

You are getting to lots of cool stuff. Klaatu are great. “Hope” especially is an excellent album.

Yes, between my research and my viewer's wonderful guidance, I'd say brilliant music is the norm here. I keep getting spoiled and I'm actually glad I waited almost 50 years to discover all this. Thanks for stopping by tonight Mark!!

I am a big fan of Klaatu's second album Hope. Glad you gave a part of it a chance. You mentioned living for "ultra creative, outside the box music". I previously recommended at Halloween time that you explore the band The Legendary Pink Dots. Start with either the album Any Day Now or The Crushed Velvet Apocalypse. From watching your reactions and listening to what you have to say about them, I strongly suspect you will find a new favorite obscure band to love.

At the time, many young Canadians (including myself) regretted KLAATU's short career. A band which, without being avant-garde, was dedicated to musical exploration; and to do this, he did not hesitate to draw from all genres: pop, rock, prog, space, electro, psychedelic, Celtic, symphonic, etc. The potential of the group predicted a long and glorious production. Thank you for contributing, at least for the moment of a video, to putting KLAATU back in the spotlight.

Ah, didn't even think about that. So was it just about 5 years that they were active? Sounds like they should have gone much longer. I'm sure you know why they broke up? Was glad to discover them today... it was a last minute decision 🙂

@@retroreactions.... Only five albums. The group was born in 1973, released its first album in 1976 and the members broke up in 1982. It's thin, hence the disappointment.

Total surprise with Klaatu today!! I definitely enjoyed both of your selections. I’ve enjoyed both of these albums for many years. You’ll definitely have to give a listen to the OG “Occupants….” True story….I had never heard of Klaatu, but I was going through a bin of “cut” albums at the record store, and this big beaming sun 🌞 on the cover intrigued me. I figured for just a couple bucks why not. Thus I got my first Klaatu album “3:37 EST”, which led me to getting more of theirs.

SO unusual and interesting! You know I love that stuff. Haha, so Klaatu found you by chance, and you led me to Klaatu...thanks for paying it forward! Excited to start CAS tomorrow. The reaction will be up early!

Very cool; while I was very aware of the Beatles myth at the time, I never really got into Klaaatu.

Little Neutrino is an incredible track! My favorite by them. You could almost (almost) believe some of their stuff was an alien transmission. The original Calling Occupants is FAR better than the cover!

My top songs from Klaatu, one of the first, one of their second album. Forget about the following albums. What made this songs so unbelievable, is the time they were produced. So many new sounds and effects. Compare with Kraftwerk at the same time! I discovered Klaatu in 1979 and I can tell you, it sound like music from a future.

Love this band from first hearing them in '76. Some of the tracks like Occupants are more commercial but most are too long for radio play.
Like many prog bands the individual tracks make less sense on their own even though they are good. But listening to each side (since they were designed to be listened to on vinyl) gives the tracks better clarity.
From time to time I search for reactions to Klaatu but only infrequently bump into the old popular standards of Calling Occupants or Hope.
Good to know younger people are discovering and enjoying the works of this unique band.

Hello RJ! Yes, makes sense for it to be heard in 1 full album listen, especially for a concept album like Hope. This channel LOVES deep album cuts! True they often don't get the high views, but often they are some of my favorite songs/discoveries 😊 Thanks so much for stopping by tonight!

I've heard of Klaatu, but I've never heard any of their work. The first song--The Moody Blues meets Todd Rundgren meets Gary Numan...with Joe Walsh guesting on the " talk box "(maybe a vocoder?). Reminiscent of Pink Floyd's " Welcome To The Machine ". Pleasantly weird...I could get used to it
The second song--Todd Rundgren vibes again...that'll work. Our host heard a Beatles influence...true

Pleasantly weird sums it up well. Oh, it's neither. I guess they used an electrolarynx, which is actually a medical device. Talk about thinking outside the box! Still need to add Todd to my channel...I think I only know 2 of his biggest...Thanks

Little Neutrino and Klaatu were/are my favorites from back in the day. I was listening to this when it was new and it was like nothing else I had heard before, and being a Sci Fi fan, this really hit my buttons. Like you suggested, close your eyes, with headphones on and you can let your imagination go wild and make your own mental "music video". I am not sure if you had the original version or faded out too soon, but there is a mouse squeak at the end (ties in with the mouse on the album covers).

@@retroreactions.... Ahh, I forgot to mention that you prematurely ended (sort of) "Little Neutrino" and missed the very faint "squeak" at the end! I long liked to imagine that was the little neutrino flying by, but it actually has something to do with the little mouse on the album cover? Per Wiki:
"The album ends with a mouse squeak. Their following album, Hope, begins with a mouse squeak. CDs that feature both albums on one disc omit one of these squeaks."
