- Continuing on with the two foot gauge sugar cane trains that serve the Mulgrave mill at Gordonvale in northern Queensland , it includes the delivery of Mossman cane by truck after the sudden closure of the mill there
Thanks for sharing more cane trains,an efficient system they have in place.🙂
Thanks for the comment , yes they are a very well run system
@waynedoeblin6801 Thanks John, I can't imagine a 24inch rail line running from Bambaroo to Guru either.
Another great video, I hope you have some more on the way 😉
Sure do , South Johnstone next
The locomotives hauling those sugar trains look like shunting locomotives
They might look small , remember it is two foot gauge but they can haul big heavy trains easily
@@johnphillips592 Ah yeah
Brasil, você é um bom cinegrafista
Thanks , I try my hardest
Great cane train videos mate. Brings back memories when I was a pointsman/fireman at Victoria Mill in the 1970s. I was wondering if anyone can settle a discussion I've had with a mate. This mate of mine reckons he saw a TV show years ago that said every sugar mill from Rocky Point to Cairns were connected by 24inch rail. I reckon all the Mills were connected by Qld rail. If anyone can confirm either way it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think that is true , if it was they would be railing the Mossman cane to Gordonvale instead of hauling by truck
@johnphillips592 John more on my 24inch rail discussion. I can't see a reason to build 200 k of 24inch rail track from Rockhampton to Sarina. The would have to have been connected by Qrail. I've also read Pioneer Sugar Mill at Brandon run there locos on 42inch gauge. Thanks again Peter
@@peterhoyer8937 Yes , Pioneer mill is 3 foot 6 inch , video coming soon on their unique steeple cab loco .
@johnphillips592 very good John, looking forward to watch that mate.
@@peterhoyer8937 Thanks , many more to come , visited nearly all the mills on this trip .
Please more cane trains 👍🏻
More coming soon .
2 Questions First how many tones in each hopper, what is the HP of the locos ?
Depends on the size of the bins they can reach up to about 18 tons and the loco horse power varies depending on the model
The locos can be up to 700 hp
Sorry , I meant 10 tons not 18 , pressed the wrong number
