Monica, don’t ever worry about content. Your vlogs are always fun. You always have guest stars (Jason, Shelby, Dad Church, pups, etc…), adventure (will she/won’t she take the train), food, travel, you’ve got the whole package. Just post lots.

I took the train for the first time from SF to LA a few weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Tickets are expensive, but with the roomette, breakfast, lunch and 3 course dinner with glass of wine are included in the price of the ticket. And the food is pretty darn good I have to say.

Absolutely, I tip at Starbucks. I'm from a small college town, and we have our own local coffee company (Durango Joe's), and I remember when we weren't allowed to tip at Starbucks. And I always felt awkward thinking, "Why doesn't Starbucks let us tip their barista" I even asked the employees if I could just tip them. They weren't allowed to accept tips. So, yes! Please tip your baristas wherever you're getting your coffee. They deserve it! 🙂

    • @mrshopaholic90

I've taken the train from Vancouver BC to Seattle, and it's cheaper than flights but nicer than taking a bus if you didn't want to drive. California to Seattle is much longer, but if you aren't in a rush, it can be fun seeing scenery beyond the highway

  • @juliayncera

Thats so funny what you guys said about driving in California. I am born and raised in SoCal and I recently visited Washington in the Seattle area, and it was driving me crazy how slow and chill everyone drives there! I feel like no matter where you are people go 40mph in WA. Where the average here is more like 70+

Some folks swear by this method: If you thump the rind of a watermelon and it sounds hollow, then it's ripe, juicy, and ready to eat; if the thump produces a higher-pitch ringing sound, it's underripe; then if you just hear a thud, it's overripe

  • @ashleydavis1011

Picking watermelon tip: Just look for one that has a yellow spot-they get spots from the field if they have a lot of flavor. Hope that helps!

Hi Monica! I'm from Serbia and tipping is not required here. People only tip when they're really happy and satisfied with the service usually in restaurant or a cafe where you sit and spend some time, but not in places like Starbucks where you're taking something for "go-to".

Amtrak does dynamic pricing so it costs more if you get it later on. It should be cheaper if you book ahead next time.

I think it’s probably for the best that the train trip didn’t work out. Amtrak isn’t that great. Especially is you are wanting the quintessential train trip experience. I would recommend planning a vacation where you’re taking the beautiful European fancy train, or even a Japanese bullet train. It would be a much more enjoyable experience. By the way, I was a little surprised that there weren’t any shots of the couple that was getting engaged. I hope everything worked out OK.

As a frequent train taker, I advise against long-distance train rides. My husband and I frequently take the train between San Francisco and Sacramento since we don’t own a car and we find that these trips are worth the time and $$ bc the travel time usually = driving time (w/o train delays). Amtrak is a form of transit so you don’t get to leave the train much like you would, say, a cruise ship, when you’re on it for multiple hrs. It’s more worth your time and money to just fly.

Probably after 5 hours, you would have been thinking ... why did I do this?!? Boredom sets in and you feel trapped. Not to mention your time is valuable and you would have spent 35 hours on this trip. But I guess everyone should try once to decide for themselves.
