    Joe and Ish’s reactions during the Suki discourse was disgusting and precisely why black women don’t come forward to speak about sexual assault. Rushing Mel, deeply sighing in annoyance while she was speaking and then making it known that you’ll wanted to move on, while making her feel shame for speaking about a very real issue of concern in the black community…. “I thought you discussed this with MC Lyte?”…..all highlight the different ways in which black women are silenced. And then when she asks, “how can black men in Hip Hop better protect women?”, instead of answering this question, subverting blame onto the venue, was just crazy to witness. On top of that, it seemed like Joe was even trying to spare Meek a bit by not sharing his tweet basically telling Suki to be quiet. Way to show support to your black queens….
    What’s more, it makes it more obvious that Joe’s rant to Rory years ago after it was discovered that his friend and then employee of his house party company was a sexual predator, was all in the name of self-interest and now reads as performative because the pod was being linked to it. This man went on a rant about how Rory should have known about his now ex-friends’ behavior, damn near blaming him for someone else’s crimes. Only to get on here and defend Funny Marco and Duval for ignoring a clear sexual assault that occurred right in front of their face…when, contrary to Ish’s opinion, both knew that Suki and OK Osiris were not seeing each other because of their interactions both prior and during the incident. Funny Marco was literally looking back and making faces at Duval and Suki could be heard screaming for “Help!” in the video, as she was attempting to turn her head to prevent him from kissing her. Mind you, Rory issued an apology for something his friend did that he never personally witnessed. Duval and Funny Marco have yet to issue a public statement about this.
    As for Killer Mike….I have a great deal of respect for him, but, I disagree with parts of his opinion. No. It shouldn’t just be accepted that this - sexual assault - is a natural consequence of the entertainment business….ultimately this idea is what contributes to the toxicity and danger of the Hip Hop industry for women and what helps to fortify rape culture….nor should women, black women, be continuously told to “give grace”. Black women have given grace and protected black men for centuries, to their own detriment in many instances. At what time can we recognize that black women need a safe space to tell their stories without being forced to “give grace” to the men who abuse and harm them? This is important to mention as well because historically, black women have always been blamed for the poor behaviors and actions of their male counterparts. For example, young women (minors in many instances) dating grown men several years their senior…instead of chastising these men for their predatory behavior, it was the young ladies who were called “fast” and “promiscuous”.
    I felt like there was a lot in the pod from the men - excluding Parks who I felt was probably in agreement with Mel but didn’t want to “rock the boat” -, that was very indicative.

    • @ElleKay407
      @ElleKay407 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah…kudos to Mel for remaining professional because I wouldn’t have been able to. The dismissive way they treated her & this serious topic was actually huge. I cannot continue to support a podcast that feels this way about Black women.

    • @fearless798
      @fearless798 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't see anything wrong with anything they said. They didn't agree with his actions

    • @mrsjfy
      @mrsjfy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You forget… Joe was in the same position as YKO when he groped Olivia Dope. So of course he doesn’t want to have discourse about it. He didn’t see anything wrong with HIS OWN actions and I’m willing to bet he doesn’t see anything wrong with YKO actions. However he can’t express that bc he knows they’ll be backlash.

    • @varsitysl3043
      @varsitysl3043 ปีที่แล้ว

      She just presented the situation with no real facts of the matter & just trying to pass blame. Joe’s main point is that before we get to blaming black men, this was a media event that they all were asked to be there. And to Joe’s point there were other incidents also at the same table that were handled differently and could possibly be perceived as skits. So we can’t necessarily blame ‘bystanders’ (Duval, Marco) without knowing the full details

    • @che498
      @che498 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@varsitysl3043 Ish was the one who didn’t know the full facts…and Mel knew quite a bit, all the way down to Meek making far more damaging tweets that Joe elected not to read….It was very clear during that exchange that Suki and YK were not together. That was made clear both before and during that incident. (There is another video clip that makes it abundantly clear they weren’t familiar intimately.) Funny Marco, while Suki was trying to turn her face and literally screaming “Help!”, was making funny faces at Duval like “look, look”. Both of them stood by and did nothing to intervene and neither one even bothered to issue a statement in the aftermath.
      There are so many instances in Hip Hop of women being abused and taken advantage of and black women being silenced out of fear of retaliation, shame, etc. So in this instance, I think its perfectly fair for Mel to ask how black men can do a better job of protecting women in these types of situations.

    This is just my personal opinion- This is the first Rap Album that I have listened to without skipping a song from beginning to end in years. Musically, this album can't be touched and is some of the best production I have heard in years. I love the album cover. The Halo and the Devil ears say a lot about what you hear in this album. It's not what you think. The Devil ears is representing a lot of how Mike came up in the drug game and things he did. There is redemption all throughout this album. I really hope that people listen to the lyrics of the songs. Zoned me completely out. I really implore people to listen to this album from beginning to end to get the total experience of the album. There are gems all over this Album. Motherless is one of my favorite songs- The combination of the lyrics and the production of the music is flawless. This Eryn Allen Kane's singing on this track is so good. I can hear the pain in her voice on this song. After the 1st listen this song literally brought me into tears (my Grandmother died recently) and I can feel the lyrics. Overall I will give this album 5 stars, 5 Mics or whatever they say nowadays. The rapping, the flow, the singing, the production straight up flawless. If this album doesn't receive a Grammy nod I'll be highly disappointed.
