Synopsis: Go As a River is a debut novel by Shelley Read, inspired by the destruction of the town of Iola in the 1960s. The book explores themes of love, loss, and resilience, and is set against the backdrop of Iola, Colorado. The book features many iconic locations in Western Colorado, including Gunnison Valley, Iola, Paonia, and Durango. The book is a story of deeply held love in the face of hardship and loss, but also of finding courage, friendship, and, finally, home.
I was born in 1949 and also enjoying this. I remember Folsom Dam in California also covering a small town and the removal and then replacement of a small grave yard. We did not move to Sacramento until 1965 but I was fascinated how a whole town could be removed even the graveyard and flooded. I used to swim and fish in Folsom lake until I left CA for a small mountain town in Idaho in 1986.
