Another great video pal. Richard, I think you should just do what you like. I have enjoyed all your content and at the end of the day you are not going to please everyone and if you do what you do already. your channel will grow. In the world we live in some people just watch things to slag it off. I really liked the San Fran episode and thought it was really interesting. So regardless what you do, I will tune in every week. Be safe
Do what you enjoy doing, it shines through in the videos. If people see one that doesn't interest them, they don't have to watch. You'll see the numbers and can gauge how well it was received, then decide if you take a camera next time or just enjoy it 'solo'. Keep the quality up and people will subscribe, once you hit that magic algorithm threshold it should be exponential. Keep safe, stay well, all the best. Alex
Great video, Richard. I haven't seen anything in your videos that I think you should change . . . just keep 'em coming. Whatever you choose to do, don't stop cooking! That steak looked really good. Made my mouth water.
Your enthusiasm for what you are doing is what shines through. That is the je ne sais quoi of this art form. Where so much else is filtered, produced or otherwise faked reality is a real attraction. Perhaps include a blooper reel at the end of video?
Another great video. You should do what you like. I started watching Kent Survival at the start of lockdown and watched his back catalogue, came across Simon, a bloke in the woods as he appeared in some videos with Andy so watched his back catalogue and came across yourself when Simon and you did a camp together, minus the potatoes if I recall. From there I watched all your videos now. Came across many different outdoor camping/bushcraft videos but you, Simons and Andy’s are the only ones I continually watch. Loved the Canoe challenge last year and showing on my wonderful country of Scotland. You are all different in what you do and so enjoyable to watch. Keep doing what you’re doing. Nice to see you back out and about again, keep up the good work
That’s exactly how I found them all. Haha I spend most evenings watching them all. If you haven’t yet you should try Liam Brown he’s another up and coming traveller. Less bushcraft but more into hiking and wild camping.
I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the San Francisco video. Please, keep post whatever you are up to. Love Scotty's stuff! I'm never going to make it to Australia or the UK, for that matter, so it is fun to watch how the rest of the world camps and see the different landscapes.
I know I’m really late to this video, and don’t know if you’ll ever get to read this comment Richard, but as to what people want from your channel: I come to you for your warmth of personality, your humour, and for anything you wish to post. If it interests you, chances are it’s going to interest at least a good portion of your audience. I found you through that Bloke in the Woods, 😉, about three months ago, and am currently binge watching your back catalogue. I love your chats to camera, your making things, your knowledge of stuff I know little or nothing about. But most of all, I love feeling that I’m being taken along with you on your adventures. I can no longer go on adventures of my own, due to mobility problems, so I hope you see this comment, so you know how much joy you bring to this old bird’s life. Thank you Richard.
A little tip Richard, when sawing, always draw back on the timber a couple of times to form a 'kerf' or the saw will jump across on to your left knuckle and tear it out. Seen it happen a number of times. liked the video. Cheers from NZ
Another fan of the SF cycling video here. It was good to see what the place is really like. I’m not totally on board with the bit about insulation under a sleeping bag being of little value. It has become received wisdom but my experience suggests that’s not what happens. Obviously, pressure points flatten insulation but the rest of the insulation contributes a bit to my comfort (and good mats eliminate pressure points). The problem with quilts is draughts and I get that even with the big quilt on my bed at home. I think us sidesleepers switch from side to side while sleeping and that’s something most quilts don’t cope with. Confining a quilt in a bivvy bag is the only way I’ve had a satisfactory performance from one. Ray Jardine has an interesting modification on his quilts, which I’d like to try, but it does rather suggest that the old quiltmaster has had issues with his own quilts.
Superb video and presentation. Richard's video are some of the most watchable on the whole of TH-cam. I love the varied mix of bushcraft, cooking, camping, brief history of the area, drone footage and mention of kit used. Your enthusiasm is wonderful and infectious. I really love the camp cooking. Excellent tarp configuration.
Great video Richard - you have your own style which I really enjoy and I for one enjoyed the cycling trip too. It’s your style which make your videos ‘yours’ and I think the variety is something to be welcomed.
I absolutely love what u do. Like I've read in the comments, u do u and I'll keep watching. The subs will come. Loved this video to great job. Also to what I like about ur channel, Is that u r a small business owner that doesn't force ur products down our throats. Just a guy out in the woods doing what a bushman does awesome
A really enjoyable video thank you, the number 36 on your bankline refers to the diameter of the line. Some people prefer the twisted because it can be untwisted and used for fishing line, sewing and such.
Love the fade out at the end! Keep making the videos you love to make! You can't please everyone...great quality videos and I'll continue to look forward to watching them! ATB
What a wonderful camp and that steak looked divine. One of my reasons for continuing to watch is you, your style and humour. Ask a 100 people their opinion and you will get 100 different answers back, I do agree with you in wanting to know a little bit more about the kit used by other channels and well done for including it. All the best, and while I hardly travel and fly, if I heard your dulcets over the tannoy, I would enjoy the flight and send a message to the front asking if I could buy you a drink at the other end.
I actually enjoyed the San Fran trip so try to do what makes you happy as well as your viewers. You should do a how to get over let-jag video at some point as I am sure you must have had to get that down to a fine art 😁 Nice to see all of the positive comments here so I hope that inspires you to keep going with the various options on the channel
Excellent video Richard, thank you. I also enjoyed your bike ride in San Francisco, it was different, but interesting, as I’ll never go there so good to see. I like all your stuff, and enjoy the DIY/knife making/tent making and all that. You do a good job for your channel though you’ll never please the carping critics. Les
I loved the San Fran video! It was so interesting to see the area and what you had to eat in the army pack. What a shame it didn’t do better for you. It deserved it.
I should have chimed in when you asked, but one of the reasons I watch your channel is because I like YOU! If I just want to watch someone doing stuff at a camp, I can watch virtually any camping channel. Watching some bushcraft in silence, like carving or shelter building, etc is ok. But a completely silent video does not appeal to me so much. When you talk to us on camera, I feel more like you are sharing with us, taking us along with you, instead of the "Hey Mom! Look at me!!!" I hope you keep talking to us often. Your detailed description of what are doing may not be appreciated by experienced campers, but will be very much appreciated by beginners and those to don't camp at all. I personally have given up watching the silent videos. I like listening to my favorite people on the camping circuit. What I would find interesting is to know how many of your subscribers are campers as well! I am NOT an outdoors person. I do it all vicariously!
Another great video. I've had a busy couple of months so just starting to binge watch all my favourite guys on TH-cam. I haven't seen the video you were talking about but going to watch it now while binging and catching up on things.
Echo all the comments here. Great video. Go with your own recipe Richard - it's refreshing and it works. You never know, maybe when the Beeb are looking for the next Mortimer & Woodhouse type content, some savvy researcher may be a subscriber here and bingo!
I love your travel videoes including the last one. I’m just not a city person. Maybe that’s why it didn’t get such a good viewing? Keep up the good work!
Agreed - I'm a Brit living aboard and love the escapism of seeing the beautiful landscapes I grew up in, so I wasn't as interested in the San Fran video. That's my only 'criticism', though. Your videography gets better and better, Richard!
I’m sorry you don’t feel your San Francisco video was well received. I really enjoyed it! I’ve lived in the San Francisco bay area for 45 years and you showed me a view of the city and Marin area that I’ve never seen before! Keep up the good work!
Hope you're well. I love all your films Richard. You seem like a good egg and your relaxing nature is why I love your channel. Keep up the content. At least you're not a one trick pony. It's good to vary your channel. First class mate.👍👍👍
That was a good camp Richard. Thanks for talking through your kit too. I for one love to learn about the 'stuff' and gadgets people use. I a gree with the others, do what YOU want to do. People can choose what they want to watch. You'll please all of your subscribers some of the time. Can't ask for more than that I reckon. Thanks for sharing your video. Didn't the dangly water bottel get on your nerves walking in and out with it on your pack? Atb Paul
You do You, Richard. Do not copy other people's style or let their opinions influence you. If you do, then you will not have fun. If you quit having fun, you will quit doing vids. While I do enjoy seeing Scotland thru your vids. Seeing SanFran was interesting too. Sorta like seeing Beijing or Ho chi min city. Did you say garlic scape pesto? Might be a 5 to 8 Min. vid there. Totally enjoyed the Bacon making vid. As well as the pride you had in making your knife and tarp. Keep having FUN , Richard; and we will too. That will make the channel grow. Now , about Simon........... LOL.
Slowly but surely and well deserved your Gunyah makes its way. It’s my favourite shelter for a while now (I invested a lot of time to figure it out before you showed us all in the 5 shelter video) and although my oilskin tarp is a bit heavy for this setup i still think it is worth it every time: it is so practical, open and protected like few others, able to transform, it looks really cool (and in the end for most of us it is not a question of life an death but about having a lovely night time outdoor and so feeling good in a shelter matters). The only other shelter I use regularly (but not nearly as often) is a plow point. Congrats and thanks you for that great shelter! And of course all of your content!!!
I shall be coming back to watch the San Francisco video again and what I saw was great by me. Do what YOU want to do and good to see you out and about. I don't do things to people please as 1 it's impossible and 2 watching someone's channel is more about their take of our joint interest of camping. Gear reviews are fine but some channels can end up like qvc camping channel.
Love it! And I really enjoyed the cycling one round San Francisco too - bought back some memories! I have enjoyed ALL of your videos and learned a lot which has been fun to try with varied degrees of success! 🙌🤩
Great woodland camp mate, I love watching the whole process you go through, from lighting fires, cooking etc, I Imagine it's very relaxing and enjoyable doing that way, great tarp set up and bivvy too, thanks, atb Mick 👍
Great video Richard! I enjoy all your videos. You always make them very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Keep doing you Richard! Thanks for all you do!
Great to see a new Richard video, and so glad you're back in work! Love your camping vids, but the cycling one was really interesting. Guess your audience is generally more campers than cyclists :) Keep going!
Hi Richard, I would definitely be interested in the pouches you make.. They look fantastic.. I used the fire trough recently and it was absolutely fantastic.. Used it with both wood and gas useing the dual gas burner.. Probably my favourite method of cooking if I'm honest.. Will try out the fuel burner on next trip... Keep well regards RICH
Cracking video Richard as always, your videos are great, you have a very relaxing way about you and you should do what works for you and what you enjoy, we'll look forward to your next adventure 👍👍
Top notch vid Richard! I didn't know that's how to make char cloth and what a neat light weight tent shelter. I always find it so interesting to see ancient ruins and to hear some info about the people who lived there. Looking forward to your next video. As the song goes, you can't please everyone else, you just gotta please yourself. All the best to you and your family 🌲🌲
I love watching your videos Rich. The honesty, the relaxed videos, the clumsy mistakes haha and just the insight in to opening up your life for others to see is great. Keep doing the videos you love even if they aren’t performing the best, just make your memories. If you ever want to go on a bike ride, I will happily join you. Would love to take in some of the dales hills. Would also give me an excuse to go see the breeder of our dog again up near Downholme
My wife and I enjoy ALL your videos. The San Francisco bike ride had some wonderful; views. I knew San Francisco was hilly, but I guess I should've realized the bike trails would have hills too. So, what did the "snack bread" in the MRE turn out to be?. That "orange" drink looked like the Tang we used to have as kids. We agree, it's awful. Keep up the good work!
Loved that tarp setup! I'm always looking to learn something new regarding bushcraft/camping and making stuff, tips etc, and I've not seen a tarp done that way.
Enjoy watching all your content mate😁👍🏻 That looked a nice peaceful camp, great to get back to. I’ll have to try that tarp config one day too, looked brill! Cheers Richard!
Excellent video, full of positive vibes, oddly your Sanfran video never appeared in my time line. so the low numbers might be TH-cam related rather than the video itself. FYI I've used my mini fire trough 400+ times at least and it's my go to for use with my Trangia. Time I bought a second as a spare. :)
I actually really enjoyed the San Fran video, Sir. Personally, I think you vids are perfect jus the way they are. I use them (I hope you don't mind) as training aids with my cadets for all things outdoors, DofE etc.
WHO THE HECK SAID NO MORE SCENERY SHOTS!!! My god your video of the country side has Nat-Geo or BBC quality to it. Reminds me of shots from Planet Earth. Just do you man. I know the subs and the views are always nice, but you need to be happy with what you're doing too. Honestly I would love to see a 1 hour scenery shot video, no talking, no people, just your awesome video and your son's amazing music. I would put that on repeat at parties and just on the screen at work. Otherwise we love what you're doing. My wife and I watch every video and some more than once!
nido full fat milk powder.....for all your camping milk needs, you're right about a blanket though but honestly I've used more blankets at camp then sleeping bags but I'd never buy into a horrible nylon/polyester one though
Another great video pal. Richard, I think you should just do what you like. I have enjoyed all your content and at the end of the day you are not going to please everyone and if you do what you do already. your channel will grow. We enjoy all your videos, Richard, and this was no exception. The wider public may be harder to please, but it has always been so. Best to you.
Excellent. Thanks!!
Great video, Richard. I haven't seen anything in your videos that I think you should change . . . just keep 'em coming. Whatever you choose to do, don't stop cooking! That steak looked really good. Made my mouth water.
Like the drone shots, love you talking to camera, you can’t please everyone all of the time!

Try Dave Canterbury or Corporals Corner - lots of useful skills but with an American view.
That’s exactly how I found them all. Haha I spend most evenings watching them all. If you haven’t yet you should try Liam Brown he’s another up and coming traveller. Less bushcraft but more into hiking and wild camping.
Excellent video Richard, the intro montage was sublime.
You are a good pragmatic person. I like that you find humour where it can be found. Thanks for sharing, great video 😊
Richard just be urself ,everyone's a critic , we will all like different things that we watch 🙂
I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the San Francisco video. Please, keep post whatever you are up to.

A grand video Richard, I enjoyed it and your adaption of camping with your Tarp! Thanks for that, just be yourself and enjoy! ⛺️👣☕️🌞👍😎

Glad to see more of the basics and your charming self. Would love to hear more about your son's wonderful music we often hear in your intros!

Great camp Richard. That steak looked wonderful! Keep up the good work. This is whar we want to see.

Afternoon Richard lovely to see you out again in the woods and a brilliant video mate take care of yourself stay safe mate
Love it Richard! And it is not different from any other bushcrafting videographer. So please continue and I will watch them all. All the best!
Awesome, thank you!
Well done richard enjoyed that one and please try and put more on as we do enjoy watching them
Greetings from the US. Love your videos!
Echo all the comments here. Great video. Go with your own recipe Richard - it's refreshing and it works. You never know, maybe when the Beeb are looking for the next Mortimer & Woodhouse type content, some savvy researcher may be a subscriber here and bingo!
Richard, your videos are always varied. I thoroughly enjoy all of them. Simply enjoy the experiences - (Fly fishing in SA was great!!) - ATB Martin
Great video Richard, love you enthusiasm for your food.
Fantastic. Much enjoyed as always!
Loving your videos. The food looks amazing 🤩❤️
The German military ground sheet is nicknamed elephant skin. I bought one Estay.
Thank you, I will

Dinner looks and sounds so tasty. I love everything you do. Even the bike trip to San Fran sisco
LOL.
Great video Richard. That asparagus was lucky to get a space on that plate 😂 🍽 Enjoyed watching this today. Top stuff 👍🏻
I watch because of Richard. Keep it up mate.
And I Love Scotty too
Brilliant Richard!

Thank you. Really enjoyed that. The steak looked magic, and as usual the beautiful North Yorkshire back drop never fails to deliver.🥩🙂👌
Again brilliant absolutely top and big thanks for all yours videos they inspire too try make your own gear realy inspiring thanks again
That steak made mouth water. I might have to try that tarp set up myself.
Thanks matey!!
I've liked all your videos, I don't know what's wrong with people! The intro to this one was brilliant, and the content was great. Thank you.
Another great video, really enjoy your enthusiasm.
Great video Richard nice to see you back
More to come!
Nice vid mate. Great to see you give the gunyah shelter a go.
Thanks. Looking forward to yours this eve. Surf ‘n’ Turf next? 🏄♂️🐄

Great video Richard! I enjoy all your videos. You always make them very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Keep doing you Richard! Thanks for all you do!
Great video! Also seeing the Fire trough getting some hits on bushcraft subreddits.
Really? Can you direct me there? Never heard of that!

Top notch vid Richard!
I didn't know that's how to make char cloth and what a neat light weight tent shelter.
I always find it so interesting to see ancient ruins and to hear some info about the people who lived there.
Looking forward to your next video.

Keep doing the videos you love even if they aren’t performing the best, just make your memories. If you ever want to go on a bike ride, I will happily join you. Would love to take in some of the dales hills. Would also give me an excuse to go see the breeder of our dog again up near Downholme
Another great video mate…
My wife and I enjoy ALL your videos. The San Francisco bike ride had some wonderful; views. I knew San Francisco was hilly, but I guess I should've realized the bike trails would have hills too. So, what did the "snack bread" in the MRE turn out to be?. That "orange" drink looked like the Tang we used to have as kids. We agree, it's awful. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic video!
Brilliant 👍👍👌
Loved that tarp setup! I'm always looking to learn something new regarding bushcraft/camping and making stuff, tips etc, and I've not seen a tarp done that way.
Great video Richard. I always learn something when I watch.
Nice setup. Awesome introduction with the drone shots. New follower here. Crow
Enjoy watching all your content mate😁👍🏻 That looked a nice peaceful camp, great to get back to. I’ll have to try that tarp config one day too, looked brill! Cheers Richard!
Cheers Pal!!
Great
Excellent video, full of positive vibes, oddly your Sanfran video never appeared in my time line. so the low numbers might be TH-cam related rather than the video itself.
Great to hear. Thanks!
I am in. Great video as always.
Wow what steak!!! Enjoyed this video!!
Thank you 😋
WHO THE HECK SAID NO MORE SCENERY SHOTS!!!
Awww. Thanks Brendan!!
Super video
nido full fat milk powder.....for all your camping milk needs, you're right about a blanket though but honestly I've used more blankets at camp then sleeping bags but I'd never buy into a horrible nylon/polyester one though
Great work on video mate great things you supply all kit used. You have another subscriber well done really enjoy your work 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the sub!
