Dogs behaviour is always deeply connected to their owners! Monte is so well behaved coz Matt is such a great leader.

You can train all dogs to behave good. It's all about how you handle the dog, and how you treat him for it's behavior. Yes some dogs are harder to train than others. But it's all about how you treat and train your dog from birth/pup.
people are lame how could anyone dislike this. Dude took the time to not only hike out in the snow and make a camp and film it but he brought a good lookin dog with him!

probably because we spend all day sitting indoors and never go out camping. watching someone else do it satisfies that primal instinct to go live in the woods that we all have. the connection to nature that we're programmed to have

I don't like to destroy the good feeling but feeding the dog first means you are rank 2 in the pack, at least for the dog. I always want to give my dog food from my plate but he won't think oh he is so nice, he only thinks oh i must be the boss that's why he gave me his food, and worse, he gave it me first. and a dog should never think he is the leader
@@obornyi2407 agree. We all had to pretend to eat from the dog dish first before the dog in the past so our dog would quit jumping on the kids and knocking them over. Still love the dog.
I always fed my dog before myself that way it’s done and out of my way.
I have to feed my dog after me because if I feed her before me she’ll inhale her food in 2 seconds that way she can beg me for mine😂😂

Potato, slice sides, put in aluminum with a pat of butter, wrap tight and put on coals, potato shouldn’t char. Lol that was way done. Crush up aluminum when done put in used baggy and take home. Tell Mr. Monty I said hello. He’s a great pal.
Monte is such a good dog. I had a collie who passed away. Seeing Monte reminds me of my dog. Collies are such smart loyal dogs.

I didn't know I needed a Collie until my husband got us a Collie then we had to have two. They have since passed and now I have one and am thinking of two again.
Agreed! I never had one, but I went to Texas A&M University, and our mascot is a collie. She is such a cool dog! Take care my friend
Ian K this dog is more the size of a collie. A sheltie would come below his knee and weigh 30lbs or less. Monte is taller, his mid thigh, and probably weighs between 40-55 lbs.
Shelties and collies look similar except for size.
Lori Brett I have pretty much only had collies all of my life. When I got older, I came to need a service dog for PTSD. Their loyalty, ease to train/smarts, and size made them perfect for this. I’ve had two males before but when it comes to needing to help lift them as they get older, I found having females was better for me. I did have two at once one time, but they do wonderfully alone or with other fur buddies.

It's so comforting to watch Monty get tucked into his sleeping bag. It's also relaxing to watch the fire burning. The two of you have a great time and it's good to watch.

Lol...your chihuahua is probably thinking...I wanna be a collie when I grow up. Must say though, these little dogs ain't afraid of anything. They grow up knowing that if you can't bring a criminal down, you can bite a main vein in the foot. Beautiful little dogs with so much character.

I know right. And what’s worse is it’s usually the more challenging overnighters that make for the most relaxing video’s. I love going back into his archives to watch long overnight videos that include a storm. Especially, his cold weather video’s. Nothing more peaceful than an overnighter during a blizzard. I almost feel guilty for liking them the most though because I’m sure it’s challenging enough to provide good, well edited content let alone adding a whole lot of other additional challenges to the efforts he already embraces with such a positive attitude. Poor guy. We all need good friends like Matthew and Monty.

You’d be so happy to wrap that potato in foil then put it in the coals. You can eat the skins then. When we used to go camping, my Dad would cut up beef or steak, onions, potatoes, carrots and sprinkle with seasoning and roll up in foil. Slow cook it in the coals and boy was that delicious!!! Foil is your friend. 🤓

He reminds me of my son Stu who does game drives at Rhino River Lodge in the RSA and totally lives for the wildlife and beautiful scenery. He and Mathew use the same language and mannerisms.Totally humorous.

I could just watch Monty sleep for ages he looks so peaceful.
I love the basic structure.
He solved a lot of problems on the fly.
And he ended up with an incredible camp.
I can see how this campsite can be improved with ease.
Back in '69 was my last lean-to. My buddy and I built it with my Sven saw and we covered it with a big clear plastic sheet over the "roof" framework and down the front to the ground as a door. Then we laid hemlock boughs on the frame with more framework covering them and lashed on with light nylon cordage. The front "door" was held in place by having it tied to a light log on the bottom.
At night the clear "door' protected us from the snow but the reflector fire warmed us well through the clear plastic. "GENIUS!" (by accident)
I will be making a super shelter like that this winter hopefully!

I love watching you starting from scratch when you locate your camping site. What a difference from the start to finish. You're not afraid to go back and make improvements. On completion, it looked practical and built to last awhile. When you served the food it looked delicious. Monty is so precious, loveable, and entertaining. I love your show.

Watching Monty in his sleeping bag is the cutest thing I've ever seen. My Malmute loved camping, but he wasn't as docile as Monty by a long shot lol winter camping is the best. Used to to to Northern Michigan in February in my tent.

I enjoyed the video. I have had Collies since I was 17 yrs.old. I hiked, hunted and fished with my first Collie Starr. My mother made her a back pack so she could carry her own food. Other than keeping me company she was mostly a liability. I had to carry her across log bridges and up scary places but she was still a great friend.

I had a full set of those folding handle pots and pans. Sooooo useful. So glad I grew up before the internet. I lived like this for weeks at a time growing up and it was sooooooo awesome. I grew up in Mississippi so no snow but we had plenty of woods and creeks we could camp by and float. Monty would have hated it though. He would have been hot all the time. My spirit animal was a black lab that never wanted to leave the water.

Most animals(including humans) have evolved to zone out their own scent and detect the scent of others more keenly. So rubbing the stick on you instead will help *Monty Snowbeard the Great* even more.

After learning how much time you put into the producing of your videos, I felt compelled today to leave my TV on when I left for the office...clicked on your canoe camping playlist to let it run all day long. My dog sits in my chair and sleeps 90% of the time when the wife and I are gone from the house. Pretty sure he is watching your vids... I plan to quiz him later when I get home.
And tonight, when I am down in my man-cave playing old retro video games (midlife crisis thing going on), I will make sure to have your channel up as well on the backup TV. Perhaps tonight I will watch some of your Quinzee videos in the background... I want to try that this winter.
Hahaha! Awesome! He probably goes nuts when I say treats constantly. They are a lot of work but are awesome easy shelters than anyone can do. Once one is up it should last most the winter if you camp in it for a night.
I do the same for my dog, Sweeney. He loves when Monty or Ruget barks out of excitement. My dog also knows the word treats. LOL
Same, I'll let them play during the day in the background at work. It's a lot of work trying to get things to line up and try to tell a story. Matt does a great job and has earned the $$. I've only put up a few vids, but it takes longer to edit, review & upload than the actual trip.

Dude, I found this channel on accident and I'm so happy I did. Thank you for having the courage to do and document these awesome adventures! Without trying to sound like a sad sac, I found this channel recently during a really low point in my life and I'm not sure how to convey how much this single video has helped. Seeing such a pure bond between you and Monty is great. Makes me want to go camping more with my dog. And its nice to be reminded of how little we really need to be happy. I really like your videos. This takes me back when I visit family in Turkey. We do this a lot in the spring time. Even though we have our own log cabin in the high village, we still go up the hills to camp. Our dogs come with us but don't stay, and sometimes they dont come back and later we see them at the cabin. Id like for them to stay but they are wild, most of them are. Sometimes we have our cows with us. We do the same build as you do, collect wild strawberries and grill chickens.

I'm from the same state, and have camped some of the same areas. There are bears, wolves, mountain lions, and bigfoot out there.
