That scene with an empty London is perhaps the most charmed scene in history. Danny Boyle actually got the city of London to clear the entire damn street for him. Not only that, but the music playing is by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, who never allowed their music to be used in films, making a single exception for Boyle.
They had to pay a lot to have those streets blocked off. The lucky one was episode 3 of Netflix' "Sandman" where they got to film in an empty downtown London for free (although at night). It was filmed during Covid lockdown, but apparently the UK counts filming crews as "essential personnel" so they got to go out and do it.
This was an incredibly uncomfortable movie. I like that these weren't conventional zombies, they could be taken down like normal humans, but they still managed to be freakish monsters. I cannot put into a single comment how much I adore the music for this film.
One of Jim's greatest assets was the fact he was a bike courier. Fast, agile and the ability to critically think quickly...like weaving in and out of traffic or a random car coming out of no where. Good training to survive fast zombies IMO. You don't see it at first given how malnourished and weak he is.. as well he's just waking up and adjusting to the reality of the situation. But by the end he's like a ninja which I think was always his natural ability unrealized.
Actually, when I first saw the film I found that part weirdly nostalgic. I'm old enough to remember when London actually looked a lot like that. Walk home from a party at 5am on a summer morning in the 1970s & you would have seen something very similar to what Jim did (apart from the letters of course) The graffiti, rubbish in the streets. Just probably not quite so many turned over cars !! The world used to look very different & not really all that long ago.
“What if there’s a zombie up there flying the jet guys” I bust out laughing & thought damn I wish I could sub twice, left the vid and noticed I wasn’t sub.. been a fan from the start a swear I was subscribed! Anyways I re sub & great video as always my dude 👊
Mr. Video is one clever dude. From the total stoner on the couch, to "look at my new intelligent glasses", he's milking You Tube for all it's worth. Kudos!
Danny Boyle, the director, went to my secondary school in the UK. Every time a film of his came out the drama department went into a tizzy... this was the horror film we were all obsessed with in our first year (i was 12). The part where Frank gets infected always got me. In my head it always made me imagine that happening to my dad in front of me, messed me up for weeks
Did you notice that Mailer didn't run after Jim during the whole soldier base thing? Now... why is that? Some semblance of consciousness and thankfulness for releasing him? Jim being so filled with rage that Mailer took him for another infected?
The infected are not completely brain dead, they can retain some basic level problem solving skills. Which is fucking terrifying. Jim was always out of Mailer's reach, and Mailer was too busy killing West that he couldn't catch up with the Manchester three. I also think Mailer was motivated to kill the soldiers, no way he got infected on accident. He probably remember some fragments of his past life and the events that led to his demise. Keeping him chained as a pet is fucked up enough.
If I woke up to a zombie invasion I would beeline it to a motorcycle shop. There you would find full-faced helmet and enough Kevlar-reinforced attire and materials to cover all of your extremities. Motorcycle boots, gloves, jacket, helmet.. you would be completely impervious to bites and scratches. Then obviously to the nearest police station or gun store for weapons.
If yall didn’t know, 28 weeks later isn’t written by the original writers of 28 days later. . . 28 years later will be Written by original writes whom wrote 28 days later. . Cilian Murphy will be reprising his role as Jim in 28 years later. . which is the sequel to 28 days later. Also it’s been confirm 28 years later will have a TRILOGY 😊 how they gonna pull this off I don’t know cause they skipped 28 weeks later. Lol
Its mad how the soldier "jones" waited 22 days before trying to kill himself due to no future. Thats only 3 weeks. Which means he was suicidal anyway and how they bullied him told me maybe thats why. But the major used his depression they caused as an excuse to rape women and young girls. Basically living fantasies out. A lot of psychological things in this movie, very deep when you think about it.
What I don’t get is how they weren’t still in contact with the high command. Yes, the main British Island got thrashed, but there was still territories and military units deployed overseas. So how the hell didn’t they have a way to contact them? Unless their long distance communication was destroyed, they’d still be able to talk to the military outside of the island.
i think the early days of the pandemic told us no one is prepared for the zombie apocalypse. march and april of 2020 was a dress rehearsal for the apocalypse set on easy mode and we failed it spectacularly.
Why is there still Pepsi? Simple. The looters left it behind as long as there was Coke, Dr Pepper, Irn Bru, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Schweppes, or... anything... other than Pepsi or Lilt(UK exclusive Coca Cola drink now rebranded as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit).
I'm glad the official ending of this film is where Jim survived to be rescued alongside Selena & Hannah since the alternate ending of the film had Jim die & Selena & Hannah were left alone.

There’s a new movie coming out soon called 28 years later I just saw the movie trailer and judging from the movie trailer the movie looks good in my opinion.
I first saw this at a VERY bad time (I had just gotten home from the hospital where I was told I was close to dying due to severe dehydration and a very high fever - was there for almost 6 hours!) I watched it again years later and appreciated it. GREAT reaction - hope you will watch the sequel too.
@@carajay1851 Thank you so much! The hospital visit scared the hell out of me, my husband, and my mother-in-law. "Valium and Molly! Anybody still do those? Put it in the comments." Confirmed, Mr. Video is a cop. I don't like zombie movies, because it usually means no future. I leave the theater feeling depressed the more I think about it. But in this one, they were just "infected" and would actually die die once they starved, so maybe there would be a hope for humanity. Which is why I like this one. Plus it turns out it was contained to Britain, which makes sense. The sequels completely fucked up the feeling of hope this one left us with. They should have stopped here.
Ummm...no it was produced by Andrew McDonald and directed by Danny Boyle. This is a British film and is completely unlike anything Raimi ever had a hand in.
If there is no government, then there are no taxes. The beginning of this is very similar to the opening of the walking dead. Leo! If you haven't watched the walking dead, you should definitely do that.
This is in my opinion the Jaws of zombie movies. This is the peak, there are only contenders besides this movie. There are other great zombie films but 28 days later is the best with the best atmosphere, the awesome gritty/grainy vcr way its shot, & most of all the characters.
It's definitely in the top three. My heart never raced so hard as when I saw this on release, I was shaking when I walked out the cinema! Other contenders are the original Night of the Living Dead which has an eerie power, and the original Dawn of the Dead which has the best opening half of a zombie movie ever. A couple of other fun bubbling-under contenders that aren't traditional zombie movies are 'Horror Express' with Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing which remarkably blends a train-bound Agatha Christie murder mystery, a zombie movie, and The Thing into one tight package and 'Miracle Mile', which has no zombies but is the perfect surreal rage and panic based breakdown of a society before the bad thing even comes. 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' the 1978 version also has some frightening zombie horde type action in it also.
I love this movie, But I was always bothered with the fact that a disese that spreds so fast, still made it past barriers like Oceans. The incubation period is non existing
I always wrote that up to rumours and mistaken early news reports, in that there were riots and stampedes about potential infected getting into airports abroad when the British flights started landing but when the dust settled it turned out it was just people going naturally crazy.
