Poor Jecki’s face in anger as she went for that last strike. A sad but truly important lesson about keeping your emotions in check.

Jecki was a beast (totally going in no holds barred) while flowing from emotions I think she was also matching her Masters ferocity. The way she kept going in for the kill. Qimer had killed multiple Jedi. She knew he needed taken down, it was her time to fight like a Knight of legends she undoubtedly heard about. Had she not been blindsided by the shoto she may have fell into defensive position. Sol can definitely be proud of the way he trained his padawan.

I'm not a fan of this show, but I did quite enjoy this episode. Besides the obvious action, the dialogue and acting seemed much more believable. Mostly. So I am going to defend Jecki performperforming so well. It's not the first time we've seen a Padawan perform so well in combat. Look at Obi Wan. He was completely outclassed by Darth Maul, yet he held his own for awhile, and even got Maul to work a bit in their final one-on-one. Obi Wan hadn't ever fought a Sith or enemy of that caliber before. If you're gonna complain about Jecki, you must not have liked Obi Wan. Ahsoka had several similar examples, too.

Actually pretty sure the books and comics both show this, especially the Vader comics. He almost got his throat cut by a Crotosis blade when a Jedi slashed through his lightsaber because the blade itself broke and wouldn't ignite. We also should take into account that Qimir is headbutting and striking sabers in a counter move that likely is forcibly breaking the magnetic field and overwhelming the crystal on purpose and with a single goal in mind: disarm and destroy.

I've been wondering why these High Republic Jedi don't even "subdue" their opponents. Jedi Trinity had plenty of chances to submit Mae during their duel. Also Sol just lets Darth teeth get up and grab his lightsaber again. He didn't have to decapitate him, (though I think it was situationally justified as teeth is in the middle of a mass killing spree and was only "defenseless" because Sol beat him into submission not because he surrendered) but why not take a hand, stab a leg, incapacitate him and arrest him. Stop playing around guys. End the fight.

say whatever you want about lack of knowledge fighting a dark side user, but they sure as hell should have a ton more experience fighting lightsaber to lightsaber, should be aware of what the fancy ores can do, and shouldnt just stand there clueless when their sabers go out. they shouldnt let themselves be yeeted by one force push, or pulled into their deaths by a force pull, or not use any force powers for themselves, or use any fighting tactics.
jecki and sol have main character syndrome where they actually fight smart for a few turns...jecki just STANDS there as she gets stabbed. just stands there. someone surprises me with a dagger im jumping like the kid who saw anakins lightsaber come out at the very least, let alone TRY to react with the sword i have. i love the 'trick' and sure it was used in medieval hema as well, quick dagger death blow while parrying a sword blow.

They call him “The Stranger.” Part of his description reads: “While some may call him a Sith, little is known of this dark sider who had been training Mae Aniseya in secret, hiding his face from his pupil.” I believe The Stranger, aka Qimir is more close to a Knight of Ren than a Sith. Because at the end of episode 5, you can hear Kylo Ren’s theme play and his helmet is built a little bit like a Knight of Ren.

If anything, secondary characters should take more effort to take down. We know they're doomed, give us some false hope before you crush our dreams. And that's what this show did with Jecki Lon. I don't want Jecki to be gone, but she fought so hard and so well, I can't even be unhappy about it. The show earned her death, and I have to applaud that. Also RIP Yord, you big dummy..

I was honestly kind of impressed with the choice. They lowkey went with a mini Red Wedding out of nowhere. Even baited us with the obvious redshirt Jedi Knights who I think everybody assumed would die.
What made it such a great subterfuge was the character building they were doing between Osha and Jecki/Yord. Jecki as a supportive friend who is obviously more in-tune with the Force than most Jedi, and Yord as a suspicious former friend who was finally starting to warm back up to her. Both of them seemed like they had arcs that weren't concluded.
And if I'd had to have picked one to die, I'd have guessed it'd be Yord. But after Qimir killed Jecki, I figured, "Okay, Yord's the one that'll survive, then." Nope. Brutal.
      Great episode.

Qimir's fighting style reminded me a lot of how Dao (Chinese Broadswords) are used one handed. Whenever his swordarm was doing anything, his offhand was either using the force, blocking with his corthosis bracelet (reminds of how Hung Gar Rings sometimes are depicted in old Hong Kong films), used as a counterbalance, or used for grappling. He at least once redirected a lightsaber blow from right to left with the blade pointed down and turned that momenrum into a direct counterattack, which is a classic dao move seen in a lot of forms from different Kung Fu styles.
It is a pretty agressive, while elegant fighting style that has to close gaps a lot and never forgets using the offhand, which seems to be one of the inspirations for his lightsaber form.

Sol choosing to give mercy to kimer is the opposite of mace saying “he is too dangerous to be left alive”. So in my opinion sol has some ptsd from killing someone before (maybe at the cult fire) and thats why he didnt finish kimer when he had the chance.

This battle was the most intense Star Wars has even been. Absolutely brutal. I was shook. Not sure if I liked it or it scared me.

The Way Qimir fights kinda reminds me of Ventress. Like Qimir, Ventress is implied to not be following any specific technique and is mostly just cutting loss. They both compensate for their unrefined forms with their use of their strength in the darkside and their wits.
On the topic of Ventress, this fight scene also reminds me of Ventress's duel with Luminara. Where Luminara gets bested by Ventress due to her unconventional approach towards fighting. The Sith assassin slashed pipe releasing hot steam inorder to blind Luminara before cutting multiple pipes to trap her under. Luminara even notes that Ventress was unlike any other opponent she faced implying she’s note use to fighting someone who’s constantly fighting dirty.
In both these duels the Jedi get their asses handed to them because they’re not use to fighting someone who doesn’t fight by their terms which causes them to be caught off gaurd.

I think the fight did the best job in displaying the full array of Juyo. How beautiful and elegant/effortless the movement is while also showing the passion and emotion that it requires to wield that form

I like many of us probably weren't surprised by the reveal of the Sith. Though his being yoked af was the real revelation. Still those lightsaber fights were very good. At least it looks like someone's been upping their choreography. Also, all hail Jecki, she may have died, but she went all in... hardcore. Respect Daphne Keen for getting that choreography down!

This episode is a horror and Star Wars movies combined. We need a relentless villain that can run after his preys. Vader just strides in.

2:26 this fight scene was like watching the Thunder Dome, when only one side of the fight knows it’s a fight to the death. The other just thinks it’s a boxing match.

I just binged through the 5 episodes today because I’ve been putting the show off, but having just finished them, I’ve decided the hate is mostly unfounded and it makes me cringe when I see those TH-cam videos that are feeding that hate… and I’m a vocal anti sequel trilogy fan. I’ve also noticed that my favorite lore channels, the ones that are so much deeper into the Star Wars sauce than most are actually not the ones spreading that hate and I think that says something about the ones who are. I binged those 5 episodes and I don’t binge things I don’t enjoy.

As you were talking about the fighting styles, I was remembering what Bruce Lee said. I am not afraid of someone who knows 10k moves, but someone who practiced one movie 10k times. The badass knows and has mastered the basics.

So Qimir's lightsaber technique comes back to Sith teachings. It was known for "True" Sith, not to rely on their lightsaber, that it was merely a tool, like everything else at the user's disposal. Qimir displays three Sith teachings; The use of your tools (Helmet and vambraces, enemies), inspire fear into your opponents and feed off it, and lightsaber technique.

I'm just getting started and have not watched the video yet. I have to say how nice it is to look forward to a video that will enjoy the good and call out the valid issues. It's honestly part of the fun to banter about what is done right and what bothers us in a Star Wars show. Other than Andor, even the OG trilogy has things to rant about. Now... on with the fun.

    Excellent analysis of the fight.
one good thing about this whole Star Wars drama is my attention is being drawn to excellent videos like this. I've been a casual watcher of the channel for a while but since many of the usual channels I would usually watch after watching an episode of any Star Wars have been slowly, and not entirely understandably turned to the dark side. It's been good to seek out balance again with personalities I'm finding are more enjoyable to watch.

That episode was just nuts. More than made up for that mess that was episode 3 (and yes I'm aware that it was probably meant to be incunclusive but if so, it was so poorly made that it just left a bad taste) and I have to say hot damn did Qimir absolutely COMMAND the screen presence with the previous episode's entrance, his looks (that mask is a great artistic choice!), the aggresive use of cortosis (thanks for reminding me what it was called, I only faintly remembered there was such a thing in legends lore) in the fight that not only shocked the Jedi but also had me on the edge of my seat when he pulled that move for the first time and to top it all off the guy gets not one but too bonafide certified Mortal Kombat finishers; the forcepull kebap followed by the double decapitation was nuts and had both me and my other watching friend whooping in appreciation but the way he killed Jecki, that was COLD.
That was easily among the best lightsaber combat action scenes in all of Star Wars that I've seen and one of the best villain entries in franchise history: much like the Jedi, he killed it!
Bravo, this episode is truly outstanding!!!
