This was the last movie my wife and I watched together before she died. Though I thoroughly enjoyed it, she was as tremendously enthusiastic about the movie as you are. I’ve watched it every year on the date (or as close as possible) that we originally saw it and I get to remember Alison gripping my hand and getting excited during the tense and thrilling moments, which was basically the whole movie to be honest. I’m glad you enjoyed it so much and were so invested in the movie. It brought back some great memories.

The editing is what really makes this movie. Instead of just starting over at the beginning every time, it shows snippets of how Cage gets to where he is - like showing his failed attempt to save Kimmel, then getting hit by that truck, and then succeeding - it really works great for the pacing, and makes the film not boring to watch, but entertaining.

It also took the majority of the space on the posters with the actual "Edge of Tomorrow" title really small. This made many people mistook the title for Live. Die. Repeat. So much so that on home video, the covers show the title as Live. Die. Repeat./ Edge of Tomorrow to make sure that people recognze the film. However, the official name always was Edge of Tomorrow.

I've found that in many of his more recent movies - including the "action" ones - he throws in a lot of self-deprecating mannerisms and comedic moments at his own expense. He's very good at it, and it's made the Ethan Hunt character from Mission Impossible WAY more accessible when compared to the first two movies. It vaguely reminds me of the way Harrison Ford used to play Indiana Jones - like he's always in over his head.

I think it's because of how strong she is through the movie that when she's dying and she holds out her hand to hold Cage's hand as she dies it was such a touching and sad scene. It was like the first time you get to see her vulnerable. But I really love that ending, how he goes onto the base as an officer and everyone is standing in attention and saluting him, treating him with respect, but when he approaches her, officer or not, she still gives him the same attitude he knows from her, and that laugh at the end he gives was just the perfect response. The reason Kage reset further is that the Alphas can reset a single day, whereas the Omega can reset two. Think of it as the Omega having a longer backup to change the events that lead to its death. Or having different levels of save states. Because Kage got the Omegas blood, he hijacked the time power from it, making it die for real. If he didn’t; if they just bombed it or something, the Omega would have reset two full days (back to when Kage was in the helicopter) and anticipated the squad attack. Glad you enjoyed the movie!

If you liked the movie, it's actually based on a book called All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. It's a pretty fast read at ~200 pages and you could probably finish it in a sitting. The Edge of Tomorrow takes a bunch of liberties to adapt it for western cinema, so reading the book is still pretty fresh and rewarding despite still having the same core story. I've reread it a few times and highly recommend it.

It's serves an even more fun premise in an action film like this, paying off some dark comedy through various deaths.

Hands down the best sci-fi movie i have ever seen. One of the few rare ones where the plot and the story are paramount and the most important and the CGI are only a background to that. Usually its the other way around - flashy CGI scenes with more plotholes than swiss cheese.
It was one of the few movies that made me sit on the tip of my chair and bite my fingernails as the stakes got higher and higher at the end.

    • @southindianboi9050

Agree with everything, except I never understand why people blame CGI for bad writing and direction.
The CGI artists always do an amazing Job with what they are asked to do. The CGI in this film is great. It doesn't take a background, it works amazingly well WITH the story. Not to mention one of the best creature design & seamless VFX work. Just like in many mainstream blockbusters.
The biggest difference is that the writing and direction are actually done well here. We need to immediately stop blaming "flashy CGI" as part of the issue for bad writing and blame bad writing and direction on it's own.
CGI don't even need to be mentioned along with it. We don't mention lighting or set design or make up along with it right? CGI is just another element like that.

I was so glad I did not know anything about this movie, didn't see any trailers and the novel itself. The thing I regret is not watching it in theatres because I was watching Godzilla (2014) instead (which I don't regret). I have already watched this movie a couple of times, glad to know you enjoyed it too XD
