  • This Martial Arts Secrets Revealed program uncovers the secrets to sword combat. Nidar Singh shows how to judge distance, angle, and position of single and multiple sword wielding opponents in this 1st Shastar Vidya masterclass. Using authentic swords, spears and battle knives the tactics of intention, terrain, and position are revealed.
Nidar Singh Nihang is the last surviving master of the Baba Darbara Singh Shastar Vidya Akhara established in 1661. He is dedicated to preserving the once secret heritage of the Guru's art of war that he learnt in the Punjab in India.

Same here...but I still just once would like to see a full speed realistic demonstration....from Nidar himself, I can absolutely do the same thing he's doing at this speed but when it's for real well that's a far different thing entirely. What he says and the technique and theory is sound yes but when you are facing an opponent hell bent on stabbing you to death suddenly many techniques fail and I want to see this stuff work for real

Sikh boys are a fun bunch that know more than most any when it comes to blades.
Unarmed nothing special though nothing to scoff at but give them something sharp & well it another story with few better if at all.
Ghurkhas are another fun bunch as well.
The orient gets way too much hype for their martial arts then they often deserve with occasional exception.

He danced right through our barrage and i can testify i wasn't swinging slow but about medium speed with unpredictable angles. He doesnt look good on camera but he is the truth

Taking driving as an analogy, bad drivers are dramatic they will stamp on gas and brakes, and make big steering movements. Good drivers are boring, they read the road and anticipate the actions of other drivers ahead of time so they will only ever need to make small adjustments, This is what he's doing, reading the others body language and anticipating and controlling their actions, by continously making small actions in advance he doesn't need to make large fast ones.

This all considers the use of armour, picking past, cutting away and prying open. Strikes are delivered to vulnerable and accessible areas, some weapons are designed to be armour piercing as well.

I'm not saying this guy isn't good but there is literally no pressure testing here in regards to the techniques hes showing. Every time an "attack" is demonstrated the attackers literally stop in the middle of the movement then they just fall or allow the teacher to do whatever . I understand for demonstration purposes the technique needs to be shown all the way but I'm sorry the attacks are not realistic. Other than that I found his advice and tips useful especially when it comes to movement and being smooth etc

While I am skeptical of this man's specific interpretations of historical techniques (I'd very much like to see him attempt to perform these in a sparring setting), it is not at all wrong to say that sensitivity to pressure in a fight is a very important aspect to combat.
In old German fencing theory, the aspect of a fight involving feeling an opponent's pressure to react accordingly was explored in depth.

Now don't get me wrong I am intensely interested in the fighting methods from this part of the world of the Punjab on into the Pamir mountains, this is the center of history everything and every people's came from central Asia so I imagine the fighting systems from this region would be very old and very effective.
