    - side exit of the exhaust will not be a whole i made a plate
    Other things
    - removed Dremmel for braking too often
    - the main character can’t weld steel as well yet working on that code

    Don’t gotta go fast. Lol SS is definitely a challenge man but your first time welds aren’t bad st all. Gotta learn how to walk the cup and free hand smoothly before trying to do that exhaust. Practice on t joints to get a feel to walk the cup. And lap and corner joints to get your free hand down. Watch welding tips and tricks. Just remember it takes a lot of practice and you’ll get it, good luck,!

    practice makes perfect my guy. I started tig welding about 2 years ago and only recently my welds are looking fine! Keep at it! One thing that works for me is having a good place to rest my torch hand while welding. Also dont take the filler rod out of the gas flow when its hot beacuse it will get contaminated, if you have a pedal for your welder you should use it. It really helps beacuse you will be able to modulate the amps!

  • @ViperDemonWright
    @ViperDemonWright 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't get discouraged, my tips from 15 years in fab, get your technique down on mild steel, it's cheaper for the learning curve, then once your practiced up hit the stainless. No the settings on the machine won't be the same, but the physical motions of foot pedal, feed speed of you filling and rate of motion all will translate over, I got faith in you! You'll get there you have a passion for cars and building em, it'll come bro!

    Hey Gingium, some advice. When you drop off the truck, bring your welding hood and ask the person who can weld stainless how he has stuff setup. Stainless is a pain in the ass to learn how to TIG, and the best thing you can do is have someone experienced help you get started with a good setup and good techniques. Use some rubber weatherproofing on the hole for the exhaust. Will make the hole a tiny bit smaller and will reduce rattle in case contact happens between the hole and the pipe.

    QUICK TIP: u can "fix" that dremel by taking it apart and taking that locking mechanism completely off and u left with hole (where the button should be) and then u can stick for example nail or en of drilbit to there and lock up it. thats what ive done to many anglegrinders bcause they always broke

    • @imnota

      I guess he could also remove that nut looking thing with vice grip, and I'm convinced you could find dremel parts on internet. But maybe he just has to learn that the locking mechanism of a dremel doesn't even need to be really tight to be locked.

    Quick tip for when welding, Wear a baseball cap backwards under your helmet to protect your neck. I learned this when stick welding and a spark from a 6010 rod hit the back of my neck. If you've ever stick welded you know 6010 likes to spark and catch fire

  • @Carter229
    @Carter229 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, don't worry about your welds looking nice. It's stainless steel, so what you really lose from cooking your welds is the stainless properties. You don't really need to care about that though, it's a drift truck that's not going to see much rain/snow.

  • @sirbow2

    a few tips for welding:
    clean your metal well in the weld area
    fitment is so important when welding pipe like this
    get a variable tig pedal: you can adjust your heat on the fly and itll help you learn when you need to go slow.
    check your argon flow/ torch angle/tungsten type

    this is coming from some one who welds dairy pipe all day. amps on 90 to 100 for tack up make sure there are no gaps at all and when you tack it do it very quickly, if you see the metal is not joining on tacking move around the pipe and tack on off on off on off very quickly this will help. for welding down to 40 amps no wire is easier and walk the cup, look on youtube how to do it. you just use the big cup and role it on the pipe and advance slowly, takes time and practice bro

    with the dremmel, get the button and rod out, then use the shaft of a dremmel bit to lock the dremmel spindle

    Keep on practicing welding, and keep playing around with amps to see what works for you and the thickness of the material you are welding.
    The gas cup indeed makes a lot of difference, but it depends on what kind of welding you are doing, which makes how concentrated your gas flow has to be :)
    The exhaust looks sickkk, can already imagine this monster of a drift pickup shooting flames out the side 🙌

    I definitely feel like you would have a blast working on my 84 B2000. It’s a project for sure but I’m really trying to do a whole rework of the engine. Not sure yet

    With that shiny 304/316 style stainless you should add some flex joints into the system

    Caleb, one big thing you might be experiencing is a lack of shielding gas _behind_ the weld. Try backpurging the exhaust while you're welding and it might make it a lot easier.

    No braided flex pipe? Helps prevent exhaust cracks.

    Told to me by a professional, if u can weld stainless steel you can get paid big money, it's not easy Gingium, take your time, but not too much, if it's room much time pay for it
