    I've seen those hubs with grease zerks leak and ruin brakes, too. I just bought a used, 18' enclosed cargo trailer with two 7,000 lb. axles. The previous owner had way over greased the hubs and pushed grease past the seal and basically flooded the brake cavity. Two had the linings delaminated from the shoes and stuck to drums.

    I agree the grease over Oil bath system on smaller axles is by far superior we have had to replace a axle due to a dry oil bath bearing. Now on Semi sized axles I prefer oil bath!

    I like lamar trailers. Standard gate hold back system, 12k jack, rigid rails, 7 gauge floor, demco EZ latch coupler. Although I disagree with grease vs oil bath simply because oil is a better lubricant than grease. Years ago someone told me lamar was the best in the business and I have researched dump trailers for 10 years now and I have to say in my opinion lamar dump trailers are the gold Standard and set the bar

    I can see my employees jamming on the brakes going in reverse to "unload a load faster " busting that telescoping ram I went with a 14k D max that is over built on the frame and box where it's under built compared to your trailer is in the axles wheels and tires which I plan on upgrading. Thanks for sharing

    Another thing with oil bath is they really need to be visually checked regularly to make sure oil is still in there. With a solid hub cover you are not going to take everything off just to look at the clear cap every trip.

    Good evening. JD how about a possible walk through at Texas Pride? Pending allowing for a vlog.? Maybe after the new year.? Be mindful of going bearing buddies as too much grease pumped in and you can blow out inner grease seal. Improperly maintained bearings and spindles can lead to grease not reaching inside/inner bearing. Not trolling just stating things that can go bad. Oil bath and greased bearings each have pros/cons. Good info here. Be safe. Merry Christmas.

    My thought on grease vs oil bath axles is this. If you use the trailer often, like weekly or more, then oil bath is great. But if the trailer sits for a long time between uses, then I'd go with grease, because oil bath axles leak when they sit for a long period of time, then you have the mess and safty issues you discussed. With grease, just give it a few shots between uses.

    What do you think about the strength of an A frame style trailer vs a single peice i beam frame. Ive read the i beam is stronger and that A frame tends to crack near the suspension where it ends due to flex.

    I didn’t hear anything about fenders. You WILL stand on those, and sometimes holding hundreds of pounds. They look beefy enough to support 1-2 men.
    Also, WHEN you get a puncture in a tire, please detail the repair. I know that I have L-rated tires on our dump trailer and every time I had to plug it, I had to drill the hole out first before I could even get the plug through the plys. I can’t imagine how difficult those hockey pucks will be.

    Here's a question....How wide is the top of the bucket and how wide is the bottom of the bucket? I'm assuming that is a "7ft" wide trailer? Is it 7ft wide at the top....or the bottom? There's a substantial loss between top and bottom according to the pictures.

  • @gizzmo2875

    I think that if the tongue was even with the main frame (front rail penetrated) it would be stronger and look cleaner at the front. The c-channel and tongue hanging below looks kind of cobbled together.
    Also, using the drop-leg on the tongue jack makes hook-up and disconnect much faster.

    • @BTBRVReviews
      @BTBRVReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John, you idea of using a solid beam for the entire frame would allow for a slightly lower deck height but would likely be weaker unless you used a much thicker gauge I beam. The way it's designed currently transfers energy away from the section supporting the dump body to the aframe and this increases the overall load handling. At 20k lbs you would want as much load dissipation as possible.

    Texas pride does not use Dexter brand axles, I hope their generic axles are quality made and replacement bearings and parts are available locally.

    • @BTBRVReviews
      @BTBRVReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They have an option for Dexter axles which cost a bit more if you want to add them, but from a performance perspective, they say they're the same. I recently toured their factory (Sunday's video) and saw the sheer number of axles they go through. It was literally thousands of axles. I can honestly say that even though Dexter has a great name to them, it's not a fail proof product, considering they are installed on almost all RVs and many owners dislike their long term performance. Every product will have a failure rate per 100 units (Problems Per 100 units). I'm not sure how their axles compare in terms of PP100 axles installed, but I bet it's very small.

    Do you still have your flatbed equipment hauler? I remember you gcvwr of your 450 and the trailer exceeded 26,000 pounds and we discussed this cdl issue. You had told me it was not under cdl or fmcsa regulations. Has your opinion changed. Also, there may be a problem with De-rating trailer or truck to avoid cdl or fmcsa regulations. After all, a trailer that would have had a gvwr of 20,000 pounds is still the same even though a sticker says it’s gvwr is 12,000.

The front cylinder....hydraulic lines....bolts...and didnt even bother painting the back side that was facing the trailer of the hydraulic cylinder itself. My welds and caulk look HORRIBLE.. I asked for no stake pockets and even had my Reb confirm it wouldn't have them only to show up after driving 800 miles to pick it up and they were there...along with not being Derated... I love your video's JD....but I feel this is a huge misrepresentation of the product....because its not what they build for the general public...they were meticulous with yours since it was going to be on TH-cam. I did reach out to them and was told to send an email with photos and all...I'm waiting to see what happens.
