I've also taken issues with the themes. There have been a few good ones but a lot of them so far were either food themed or two stupid answers and a correct one. I think 3 teams is a good idea, but with the most recent splatfest, a team having less than 10 PERCENT of the popular votes is a serious problem. They need to come up with better themes

during money vs fame vs love i was on team love and LITERALLY only got mirror matches the entire tome I played. I never went against the other teams (i played a ton of matches btw)
That was pretty much the reason I picked Team Fame, and also Team Bigfoot. I knew that if I picked the other options, I would get constant mirrors, so I picked them instead just to avoid that.
They are really being quite annoying. I feel like it is enjoyable but I definitely think that they seem a bit of a chore. I especially really do not like the mirror matches and how they have been handled and Shiver’s team winning feels a little bias is kinda annoying. And yes, tri colour isn’t so good. There are many of them that felt really boring and hectic
Oddly, this past one has been some of the most fun I’ve had in Tricolor, if only because I happened to run into some funny jank and actually kinda smart plays(Like me throwing a Booyah Bomb RIGHT as someone on Big Man’s team deployed a Big Bubbler on the Ultra Signal point)
counter agrument: more options will increase mirror matches as you split the playerbase further. but i do believe that the tricolor maps should be more unique, they really need to spend that energy making maps like the triforce scorch gorge. they're more than capable of designing those unique maps seeing as the shifty stations existed.
As Splatoon 3 is my first Splatoon game I always play a ton during Splatfests as I never experienced them in the previous games. I love the music, atmosphere and tricolour! I agree that Anarchy should be available as there's only so much Turf War I can endure. Plus, mirror matches are so frequent there's no point in playing. Hoping the next tricolour map is good, Barnacle and the Triforce one are my favourites so far :D
I ADORE the atmosphere of Splatfests. I love all the lights, the community posts, the MUSIC especially, the maps at night, all of that. And that's honestly the thing that keeps me coming back. It's really a shame; personally I think they may hold off on ranked modes during Splatfests b/c they're afraid of a loss of interest; most people who play Splatoon (extending to people who don't game as often) onlyy paly Turf War, and new modes might seem overwhelming to casual players (????) I seriously wish they'd just give us ranked modes in Splatfests. Maybe even take it a step further and let EVERY ranked mode be available so people can try out the different ones, and combine all the ranked mode scores into a "Pro" category. Honestly pretty much everything else is what I think too. Mirror matches are annoying, there's not a ton of variety, and the only Tricolor maps I remember being good was the Triforce one, Mincemeat and Sturgeon. We really need Tricolor-exclusive maps Great video :)

My favorite part about the splatfests aside the atmosphere are the multiplier battles, like, you never know when you will get a 10x battle or even a 100x The feeling when you get those is unexplainable, the adrenaline kicks in so much to see if you won or not. And I'm actually okay with playing turf war, I just care about fighting the other teams to get points for our team, like the feel of the splafest itself. But yeah, I hate mirror matches, that has to be fixed. Before the 2.0.0 update, it was impossible to even get a mirror match for tricolour, you would be sent back to turf if you couldn't find a match. (Personally I prefer this old system but I can see why it was changed) And YES, a splatfest where you play ranked modes instead of turf war only would be so much fun!
Honestly, if the two teams get a mirror match, they should still get some clout points like 300 for playing the full three minutes. Ever since Nintendo invented the clout system in Splatoon 2, splatfests have not been fun
Adding ranked modes would be terrible, just with matchmaking an all you could have a team with S+/X ranks facing off against a team of A/B because we already know Splatoon has trouble with splatfest matchmaking and also adding ranked modes complicates the clout system and takes away from splatfest being a special event
That's a valid point, the game does have internal power (that you can't see) while you're in matchmaking for ranked. So it should be as good as usual,, but yeah the matchmaking in this game isn't the best lol
My personal biggest issue so far has been one not even mentioned here; the themes. (WALLS OF TEXT AHEAD!) Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying EVERY splatfest has to be a perfect one like RPS or the Pokemon/Zelda fests, but come ON nintendo, FAME? Of all things, not Passion, or Adventure, or anything, FAME!? And what's up with it just being Nessie and Bigfoot? Why not ALL dinosaurs/water based cryptids vs. all land based cryptids vs. all aliens? So many small adjustments to how the NAMES OF THE TEAMS are worded would make for an entirely different outcome. Gear v. Fun v. Grub was a "correct answer" fest too which sucks, and all the good ones so far have been played-safe food fests. The other biggest issue for me theme-wise have been the colors, like seriously this is meant to be a chance for wacky, wild colors, bright reds, deep blues, silvers and golds and bronzes, whites and grays and black, not... Purple v. Orange v. Green for the tenth time! Every splatfest has had at least two of the following colors in them, or have been similar color architypes or shades, like purple being swapped for blue or orange being swapped for red, or green being swapped for, uh, white? I guess? Enjoy reading through all the bland, similar colors, none of which were a particularly cool shade of their respective colors (save for the sponsored and Icecream fests) Gear v Grub v Fun; Purple, orange and green, Grass v Fire v Water; Green, orange, and blue, Spicy v Sweet v Sour; Orange, purplish-pink, and green, Chocolate fest; Purple, orange and off-white, Cryptids fest; Green, purple and orange, Zelda fest was relatively exempt, as it only shared green with the common theme, but it was still in the same vein despite its unique shades, Icecream fest gets a pass because its the nicest looking one yet and has genuinely unique and fun pastel colors, Money v Fame v Love is literally the exact same as the Flavors fest except nicer looking and brighter colors, pink instead of purple. Where's the silvers, the blacks and grays, the _thematically fitting colors that aren't just randomly tacked on?_

I do enjoy playing splatfests since they're so infrequent, but youre right-there's a lot that could be improved on. (long comment ahead sorry, but i have a lot to say on this!) There's one thing i wish more people would talk about. I think the real reason mirror matches are so common is because of one issue: *Worldwide Splatfests* . This means the three teams have to appeal to every region, so there's much fewer options that they can choose from. It's already pretty difficult to come up with 3 evenly balanced themes. But then they have to consider: is the theme relevant to all regions? If not, the idea goes into the trash bin. It also creates these weird secondary effects. Okay, let's say you've a Splatoon dev, and you've come up with three options that are pretty balanced overall. But then you have to consider: are they balanced _per region_ ? During Money / Love / Fame, team Money was really popular in Japan, but team Love was popular elsewhere. Meaning in the West, team Love got tons of mirror matches, but DIDNT have the highest amount of votes (because matchmaking, while worldwide, strongly favors nearby players). This isn't even the same issue as a general popularity imbalance, because team love was very popular (43% of the vote, when a perfectly balanced split is 33/33/33). How could the dev team even predict that? There's so many nuances and specific situations that they have to account for when splatfests are worldwide and three-way like this...I don't know if it was worth it. Previous games had sponsored splatfests, like Spongebob, TMNT, and Transformers. Japan had collabs with Pocky flavors, NPB (baseball), and Maruchan (ramen). None of those would work with Splatoon 3's worldwide system, which is kinda sad...I liked those kinds of splatfests. The benefits that the worldwide system brings are pretty minimal. If you've got friends overseas during splatfest, you can play with them now. Is there...anything else? It doesn't really matter for solo queue, since you're queuing against random people anyway. Maybe you could argue that, worldwide fest = more players = reduced waiting times in the lobby...but you'd probably get an even _shorter_ waiting time if the teams were balanced in the first place. Which is harder to do when it's worldwide.
I like your ideas. I would be happy if they just made 2 simple changes, which shouldn't be too hard for them to develop. 1. Give an option to exclude mirror matches. If everyone in the party turns this on, then the game will keep searching for an enemy team to face. If one person in the party has it off, then it would still find mirror matches since it's unfair to make them wait. I would be fine waiting several minutes for a valid match instead of wasting my energy on a pointless one. And I could turn off the setting if the wait times are way too long. 2. Change pro queue to use anarchy game modes so that there is more variety. I realize this might be annoying to some who want a solo queue for turf wars, but I feel this tradeoff is worth it and doesn't overcomplicate the final scoring system. Any other changes would be nice bonuses.

I legitimately laughed out loud when I found out there was a Mario kart meta” I think oWest said something like that in one of his Splatoon 1 is back live streams. play the mode you love and just have fun. try some weird plays, do some funny stuff, whatever you want to enjoy Splatoon. For the reward, i think we should have more sea snails, because even if i play a lot, i only have like, 20 sea snails, and if you want to level up your gears, this is not a lot
I wish certain splatfest came with new maps for only that splatfest like for the Pokémon one they could have had three weapons to represent the three types and a new map with different effects occurring at different times like at one point a wave of ink could happen as the water event
Well ya know what's painful? Encountering so many players who are try hards and are always a higher level than you. I've never played splatoon 1, but played 2 and 3. Now I keep getting matched up with people who played ever since 1 and it's so unfair.
It's funny you mentioned that Open and Pro have the same stage rotation well in the new update they'll be separate lol. I was on Team Love last time and the mirror matches were just exhausting and frustrating cause I wasn't contributing to my team even if my performance isn't gonna swing the results. Adding Ranked Modes as points is a good idea make them worth 10 each. Rewards are whatever to me but I wish would get a Badge for what Team we were on or at least keep our shirts.
I will divide my statement into two: My Opinion on the current Splatfests and Opinion on the changes that could improve it. My opinion: Also yes, I only started playing Splatfests from Splatfest World Premiere because I started playing Splatoon 2 from 2022, but I still recognize what Splatfests looked like in Splatoon 2 and... they looked much better. Turf war - I'm used to Turf war by Sizzle Season because it was the only mode where I could play without being spawncampione every round, I like it so much, but after hitting the Ruler I already feel bored because I don't have much to do what to do besides play... maybe 10x or 100x. Tri-Color - A mode with a good idea but a shitty execution. Mirrored matches are just getting away from me, which is why I regretted choosing Team Love recently. The maps are really bad, the only ones I had fun on were Scorch Gorge Zelda and Barnacle & dime. In addition, there is not much news there, so the mode can get bored quickly, if you don't get bored with the map or Mirror matches. Rewands - I don't mind because Sea Snails usually only spend on windows in clothes and Conch Shells on the Machine so... well, it's enough for me, just like in Big run statuette or Eggstra work sticker. Improvement changes: Anarchy modes - I honestly agree, even though I hate Anarchy because it's not fun to play there without Spawncamping, it would add some difference on the first day. Unique Maps for Tri-color - I agree half way, because normal maps can be just as fun if they are balanced or well done, but new, completely changed maps... it was something remembering Zelda Splatfest. Avoid Mirror Matches - It would help, the problem is how would it work seeing that sometimes the 3rd team has so few players on their side that there wouldn't be enough for the other teams. Rewands - And here I will not agree, giving special gear rewards, a locker or badge item would cause even more hatred in the community, because everyone would want it, and if they saw someone with it, they would immediately hate or hate it, also... well, there are two sides to the coin.
As a 3 new comer, I really love the atmosphere during Splatfest, but the mirror matches does get really boring 😢😢I’m wondering if the devs will consider incorporating event match mode when there is a mirror match happening, it will at least make the 3 mins fun😢😢

I think Tri-Color battles should be completely reworked to where there is two people per team and no ultra signal and Tri color battle point gain should be nerfed from 18 points to 14 points and add ranked gamemodes

Adding Ranked Modes as points is a good idea make them worth 10 each. Rewards are whatever to me but I wish would get a Badge for what Team we were on or at least keep our shirts.
I will divide my statement into two: My Opinion on the current Splatfests
and Opinion on the changes that could improve it.
My opinion:
Also yes, I only started playing Splatfests from Splatfest World Premiere because
I started playing Splatoon 2 from 2022, but I still recognize what Splatfests looked
like in Splatoon 2 and... they looked much better.
Turf war - I'm used to Turf war by Sizzle Season because it was the only mode where
I could play without being spawncampione every round, I like it so much, but after hitting
the Ruler I already feel bored because I don't have much to do what to do besides play... maybe 10x or 100x.
Tri-Color - A mode with a good idea but a shitty execution.
Mirrored matches are just getting away from me, which is why I regretted choosing Team Love recently.
The maps are really bad, the only ones I had fun on were Scorch Gorge Zelda and Barnacle & dime.
In addition, there is not much news there, so the mode can get bored quickly, if you don't get bored
with the map or Mirror matches.
Rewands - I don't mind because Sea Snails usually only spend on windows in clothes and Conch Shells
on the Machine so... well, it's enough for me, just like in Big run statuette or Eggstra work sticker.
Improvement changes:
Anarchy modes - I honestly agree, even though I hate Anarchy because it's not fun to play there without Spawncamping,
it would add some difference on the first day.
Unique Maps for Tri-color - I agree half way, because normal maps can be just as fun if they are balanced or well done,
but new, completely changed maps... it was something remembering Zelda Splatfest.
Avoid Mirror Matches - It would help, the problem is how would it work seeing that sometimes the 3rd team
has so few players on their side that there wouldn't be enough for the other teams.
Rewands - And here I will not agree, giving special gear rewards, a locker or badge item would cause even more
hatred in the community, because everyone would want it, and if they saw someone with it,
they would immediately hate or hate it, also... well, there are two sides to the coin.
As a 3 new comer, I really love the atmosphere during Splatfest, but the mirror matches does get really boring 😢😢I’m wondering if the devs will consider incorporating event match mode when there is a mirror match happening, it will at least make the 3 mins fun😢😢
I think a good change is giving us another 100x/10x/333x battle if someone DC's in the last one. I JUST GOT A 100X and someone DC'd!!! Even if it was network trolling us, we should be compensated!!

I think Tri-Color battles should be completely reworked to where there is two people per team and no ultra signal and Tri color battle point gain should be nerfed from 18 points to 14 points and add ranked gamemodes
5:27 there's literally the win badges for tricolor and the conch shell badge for reaching ruler??
I prefer mirror matches in tricolor instead of not playing it (like in the start of the game)
