  • 2016 Sea-Doo spark with stripped output shaft and damaged driveshaft. Here's how to remove the output shaft by locking the engine. jetski lost momentum, loud whirring or whining sound. lots of work but here's some tips with just a couple $15 tools.

    Just use an dial gauge to find tdc.
    Use some heat und the intermediate shaft it will make the job more easy ;-)

    Thanks for your helpful video! The manual says to replace the PTO oil seals and PTO cover gasket. Did you replace these, and if you did not, has there been any oil leaks?

    • @krishowes342
      @krishowes342  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not because the gasket seemed in great shape, I overlooked everything during a tuneup this spring and it all seemed fine and no leaks

    Question, i know this is an old vid, i have a 2018 spark trixx im currently doing this to. That outer boot for drive shaft, is there a carbon seal in it? When i removed the jet pump my drive shaft came out with the jet pump (i knew what problem was then) i noticed when i looked in towards the pto sleeve there was no carbon seal? I got a shop manual and it talks about the inner drive shaft boot and seals in the pto cover assembly. Is the outer boot the only thing stopping water from entering the hull?

    • @krishowes342
      @krishowes342  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I believe that boot is the only protection, and I don’t think it has any sort of seals on it. I replaced ours and I believe it was just a two clamp boot on it.

    • @dawgfather2101
      @dawgfather2101 ปีที่แล้ว

      @krishowes342 is the way it appears in the manual. The only seals showing is the ones in the pto cover you have to remove to get to that thread on pto sleeve I need to replace. OK, thanks! Just making sure, 1st time working on a spark. More familiar with my 300 gtx skis

      @krishowes342  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dawgfather2101 The boot on the other impeller side with the jet pump is a bitch, the one that’s threaded on each end. It can separate if you pull or twist it to hard and it’s legit impossible to get it back together, there’s tons of tiny rubber pins that interlock. I fucked that one up once, don’t make that mistake.

    how can i make sure that my pto is bad? i have a 2015 seadoo spark with only 40 hours never ridden in salt water. it was riding really good the whole time i rode it then parked it for a bit and next time i took it for a ride it was revving up and making a slight noise but not going over 8mph. i thought it sucked up some rocks but i took apart the jet and the Wear Ring and Impeller has no damage at all. it was full on gas. i have no idea why this happened if anyone has any knowledge on this please let me know

    • @nazarsimonchuk2961
      @nazarsimonchuk2961 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to take it apart essentially to know. But that sounds like it’s the problem. If it’s making like a whirring/high pitched noise and barely moving. It’s essentially the driveshaft and output sleeve that are stripped and grinding against each other.
      Pretty difficult fix but it’s possible. I fixed one last year and now my other one is having this issue and I’m literally fixing it right now lol. Driving to auto zone for a breaker bar

    • @krishowes342
      @krishowes342  ปีที่แล้ว

      If your impeller isn’t jammed up, then it probably is the driveshaft/output shaft, possibly the jet pump itself though too. The downfall is most of the sparks before 2016 is the output shaft is mounted right to the crankshaft, so if yours gears are striped on that, might be a big expensive fix to replace the whole piece. If it’s just your driveshaft stripped, than that would be easier, but from what I’ve seen online the output shaft strips easier. In our case, both were striped pretty bad.

      Hi can i try it on my 2014 spark? The shaft end is worn and leaking oil, do you think its the same proceder or i will have to take it to a shop? Thank you

    • @krishowes342
      @krishowes342  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexpapoite2420 from what I’ve read, everything before 2016 the output shaft is mounted directly to the crankshaft, making it a lengthy and expensive fix. If it’s just your driveshaft that is stripped, then it’s not as bad. Check out all the teeth in the output shaft. Good luck

    Hi Kris.
    I sucked up a tow rope into my impeller intake, and it wrapped around my driveshaft. I removed the rope no problem (didnt even have to cut it) but after i started the ski again, it would die during idle. I could only keep it running by throttling up. Any idea what the issue could be?

      @krishowes342  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sooo hard to say without seeing it. Did you check out the impeller/wear ring real good and make sure theres nothing binding that up? get under it and check both sides of the driveshaft real good, ive seen tons of fishing line wrap up around mine and not notice it at first glance. thats where i would start anyway...

    How do you know if you can replace the part or if the whole crankshaft needs to be replaced. there is a label on my engine and it says 09/2015, does that mean I have to replace the crank shaft?

    • @krishowes342
      @krishowes342  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i believe anything older than 2016, the crankshaft is mounted to the driveshaft, so its one large part and unfortunately more expensive to fix
