I watched a Sargent hand a recruit his EGA and told him "this is yours......this is yours......this is yours....." over and over again. Very powerful stuff right there. Always brings tears to my eyes.

I never get tired of seeing these proud young Marines presented with their EGA at the end of the Crucible. Much different than when I went through PI in 1972. It was not until Graduation Day that we were entitled to use the emblem… and call our DIs Sergeant, Staff Sergeant or Gunny. But… it was the end of the Viet Nam era and a different time… but when we marched out on the Parade Deck in our Tropicals (an old tan/khaki colored uniform), we were proud. Semper Fi!

When I went through and 94 we didn't have The crucible but when we got our EGA from our drill instructors . The Di spoke to every recruit brief and everyone was congratuled .Now the Di hand out EGA and handshake look off into distance.Sum seem to have more to say of heart and motivation to certain recruits.Back in the day each new marine got same motivational words and firm shake.JS

This was my company plt 4015. I in the back the very last one of my platoon, the tall one that looks done with her life 😂 They did give us a handshake and told us some encouraging words. DI SSgt porter gave me my EGA her exact words were “HILDEBURN!! MY SPY! You for real got some 6 senses or some sh*t.. Nah! But for real! You earned this EGA! I seen you for the past 3 months grow as an individual and as a person! You never gave up hildeburn that’s why I always picked on you a little more than the others. No one can take this moment away from you forever!! You have to uphold to this title though. Youre no longer just a person… congratulations marine!”

The person who was just giving handshakes out was Chief DI SSgt Teyes. She couldn’t really say anything because she was that platoons Chief DI

'94 here as well. Receiving them in your alphas and then being released to your family for a few hours the day before graduation was an amazing feeling. Not gonna lie, when I saw my mother and she started crying, he waterworks were on for me. Do the parents even get to see the EGA ceremony anymore?

The only better feeling than this right here is walking off that parade deck on the last day.

Oscar 4039 2022, there’s no better feeling than receiving that EGA after being mentally and physically challenged for weeks ! Semper Fi , it all pays off in the end 🦾
