    Very nice and hard work . But would like to give you a suggestion. That you should use a laptop or any other adopter/charger of 220VAC to 12VDC 5A and connect these fans to it. That will aslo work fine.

  • @AtlantaTerry
    @AtlantaTerry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    At 3:42, you show the wires being fed through the metal plate without any protection from shorting out. Over time, the fan vibrations could cause the wires to rub against the sharp metal and then short out which could possibly cause a fire. The price of a simple grommet is very cheap insurance. Other protections could be heat shrink tubing, electrical tape or at the very least, hot glue.

    Very good work, but please enclose that transformer so no one will touch it. 220v mains power is pretty dangerous.

    • @EasyHomeMadeProjects
      @EasyHomeMadeProjects  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +ted clubber lang thnx. There is no current in outer side of transformer. Also it is near to roof and not accessible easily.

    • @63ch31
      @63ch31 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, if you use four diodes in a "bridge rectifier" configuration, the fans will run smoother and cause less electronic noise for other devices.

      +ted clubber lang there is no need a bridge rectifier for center taped transformer.

      No more dangerous than 120v.. he would have same amperage breaker systems as 120 so depending on the overcurrent protection would be how dangerous it was.. also, they make cheap 120/220 v cpu size fans for like cabines and food stuffs...

    • @sixstringedthing
      @sixstringedthing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Z Ack "he would have same amperage breaker systems as 120".... actually no, he wouldn't, and the reasons why are covered under basic electrical theory. You should probably stop spouting bullshit on the internet if you know nothing about the subject under discussion, especially when the subject is electricity.

    Can we use a 12 volt adaptor instead of transformer??

  • @pspaddict80
    @pspaddict80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    you should've placed the transformer outside. Aside from making it hidden while making your room aesthetically clean, it will also keep the x'former from heating up. I guess its size is not much of an obstruction, besides that 4 fans will make it overheat for sometime when on...

    • @EasyHomeMadeProjects
      @EasyHomeMadeProjects  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Deonicius Diez this transformer can handle loads up to 3Amps. And the each fan have only 0.27A max load.

    • @pspaddict80
      @pspaddict80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's a big difference between load capacity vs endurance. Even appliances short and overheat even if their parts are made for the load. you expect a gadget to run longer then heat is your worst nightmare... just sayin'

    • @EasyHomeMadeProjects
      @EasyHomeMadeProjects  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Deonicius Diez i can't understand what do you want to say. But a 3A transformer can easily run 1.1A load of 4fans over night without heating.

    • @pspaddict80
      @pspaddict80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I doubt the transformer won't heatup especially if the room is itself warm. I've in electronics for 15+ years now and not in my experience i've handled a part that wont heat up unless its Japan made. I'm not sure if you are in a 4-season country but for tropical to uberwarm countries, a little precaution may help...

    • @matt9c1
      @matt9c1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. The proper answer is to forget making your own deathtrap power supply and just use a simple power supply that is commercially available. While the idea of the fans is neat, the power supply part is by far the most dangerous. Just buy the proper supply and forget the tape, capacitors, and other cobbled electrical dangers.

    At 5:29, you fail to show the use of plastic wall anchors. It is not a good idea to directly screw into a wall because over time, the fan vibrations will weaken the strength between the screw threads and wall material. Some inexpensive anchors will help the installation to last a long time.

  • @razibbaf
    @razibbaf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good. Using AC cooling fans could eliminate additional circuitries. I think that would be more easier, just assemble the mechanical frame. Also, series connection isn't preferred there as one fan fault can stop the whole and also, any low voltage will drastically decrease all fan's speed. Parallel is preferred in my case.

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      All you need is to find a plug in power supply (like the black boxes that come with electroics) if you look on that black box it will tell you what its output is. Find one that says 12v and the higher the MA. Milliamp, the better in your condition as car rad fans can take alot.. also on the black box make sure you see a symbolof _____ with a - - - - over top making solid line with dotted o top. That means dc.. then all you do is attach like wires on the fans and cut the end of the cable off coming off the black box (while unplugged) then attach one of those wires to one of the fans abd other wire to the other... put a switch in series with one wire to switch it. If you dothat and doesnt work, flip thr wires around (polarity). You wont hurt anything if you messup.. the power supply might cut offbut youreset by unpluggig and plugging bsk

    • @sixstringedthing
      @sixstringedthing 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forget what Z Ack is saying about using a plug-in power supply, you wont find one with a suitable current rating. Radiator thermo fans can draw anywhere from 5 to 20 amps (60 - 240 watts) and you want to run two of them.
      You would need a suitably rated 120VAC transformer with a secondary voltage somewhere in the 16-18 volt range. No, you don't want a 12V transformer because thermo fan motors are optimised to run off the 13.8V-14.4V output from the car's alternator, and the rectified DC output from the transformer will equal the RMS voltage of the secondary (not the peak voltage). Then you'd need to add some sort of rectification (a couple of chunky diodes would do) and some reasonably sized reservoir capacitors on the DC output.
      If you can put all that together correctly, you'll end up with a very noisy way of moving a lot of air, as radiator fans are designed with airflow above all other design characteristics... they are not designed to be quiet. You could also buy a suitably rated 13.8V bench power supply (as used by automotive electricians for testing purposes), but these are expensive. I'm not sure what your specific application is, but in 95% of cases it will be much cheaper and easier (and quieter!) if you just buy a suitably rated 120VAC fan.

  • @Z-Ack
    @Z-Ack 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wat the diodes for? Transformer not got the bawls to spin 4 fans? I would just personally get 120v case fans and would be more power efficient cuz with step downs , well look it up.., and would have nothing else besides the fans. Theyre cheap too.. like 12$ for 4 ..

    Seems overkill? Why not use a spare 12V/1A switching power supply (from an old router or switch) and just connect that to the black/red wires from the fans (the yellows are only for motherboard monitoring) and avoid all the dangerous stuff!
    1 of these common 'wall wart' power supplies will easily run 4 computer fans and since you are only dealing with 12V then you mitigate the dangerous part.
    Make sure you solder the connections and use heat shrink electrical wrap to cover the connections.
    Easy.
    PS - for a washroom or place with moisture, isn't it easier to buy a $20 extraction fan designed for this purpose?

    I'm pretty sure his house insurance wont cover the fire that will occur being it wasn't tested by or have the UL- " United Laboratories " stamp/sticker to wire them fans all together and used to remove humidity. Pretty sure the engineers designed them fans to cool down cpu's and didn't have humidity in mind. smh

      with a sledge hammer and house owner consent, you can have any size window you desire. Even better if you can use a drill to make a hole.

    couldn't you just wire them to a usb and then plug it in to a power point usb charger?

    • @EasyHomeMadeProjects
      @EasyHomeMadeProjects  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +goobie87 we can't. Because usb port have only 5V. And these fans are 12V

      Dean, just substitute a 110 volt transformer for the 220 volt one in the video.
