      This isn’t special exercises“ just for worshipers“ they are standard speech level singing exercises that I’ve seen many coaches online use. Worshipers have the same vocal cords as classical musicians as rock musicians and Pop musicians I thought she was going to be doing worship songs incorporating themIn her exercises or something like that. Instead she’s just doing standard stuff I feel as Clickbait for worshipers thinking they’re getting something special

    Sophie,
    I am an ex heavy metal/ hard rock singer. I was challenged a year ago to sing more classic rock and mellow rock....I had to learn how to stop using false fold and aggression in my vocals. You are helping so many people. I share your warm ups with anyone who will listen..Thank you so very much!

    I sang revelation song yesterday while on the drums (yes, playing and singing... is nuts.) I ALWAYS have a problem with taking the high notes up to my nose (to the point that it sounds a but like Ariana Grande) but I really don't want that. (Also, is there a problem with taking up the high notes up to your nose?)
    When you brought up the "hngg", my world became brighter because it does work! Sophie, you are a breath of fresh air. This is really helpful, coming from a worship leader in training! God bless ya sis!

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Patring! I'm not totally sure what you mean but I will give it my best shot. Singing from "the nose" is usually described as a mix voice sound. Mix voice resonates in what we call "the mask", which in-part is the nose. Maybe you are blocking your nasal cavity, which makes an undesiring, nasally sound. I have a lot of youtube tutorials about singing in mix voice. Check them out and I think you will understand more. Thanks!

    Hey Sophie! Question for you, when we are doing the HUNNG exercise in our upper vocal registers (C6 - G6), I noticed I was starting to have hard time breathing and it was pinching and sounded breathy, do you have any guidance on how to do this with ease using the HUNNG exercise in this range?

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Do your best to pull back on the volume and keep the back of your tongue glued to the roof of your mouth while keeping the tip of your tongue relaxed. If you are feeling breathy, it may be because you are allowing some breath to come through your mouth which can cause some unwanted strain. Continue to bottle neck the sound as you get higher so it can fit in the small pharyngeal space with ease. If may feel like the opposite of what you want to do, but keep the sound small. (like a squeak!)

    Dear Sophie, I got a question ...some exercises resemble exercises from SLS (Speech Level Singing and Singing Success)...is this just a coincidence? I mean in the end I know the different vocal technique programs use nearly the same tools and these days this shouldn't be a problem anymore. I mean some exercises everyone uses even from old Belcanto traditions, others are from Estill Voice Training or CVT. And I don't wanna judge or offend. I was just curious about that.
    By the way another question - what do you think about this exercise " Singing into a straw"? Lately even SS by Brett Manning talked about it.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tom, not offensive at all. Yes, some consistency to be expected between good vocal coaching methods, just like many personal trainers use squats, or sit-ups. The difference is often in the coach themselves, their life experience and personality that allows them to understand problems quickly, care about the singer, arrange the exercises in a effective way, and even invent *new* exercises that build on what the singer already knows. And singing into a straw can be quite helpful for those experiencing constriction, and it's a version of our "blowfish" exercise.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Tom. You are not offending me. These are great questions. The bottom line is that the information I use is from ear, nose and throat doctors. There is so much new technology that we didn't have before, therefore all vocal techniques should become more in alignment with these scientific facts, which is just beginning to happen.
      As for the straw exercise, I don't use it. I can only speak for myself here, but some of those breathing exercises are for a more classical based sound. I also don't focus on breath because I believe that our breathing is fine. We do after all breath 24 hours a day, even when we are asleep. I come from a more muscular/resonance approach. Does this make sense?
