Hamsadhvani...does not contain madhyamam or dhaivatam, thus an audava ragam., and is actually a janya raga of the Melakartha raga, Dheerasankarabharanam (29th) but according to Hamsadhvani's prayoga or the way it is sung it is said to be the janya of Kalyani (65th)!
Here the HYD-Brothers did ensure the tempo of the hamswa dhoni thoughout and rightly presented excellent neravel @ 'bhava sAgaramu' n pursued the swaras wherein they incorporated the classical mode of weaving swaras , may be extemporized on the spot with short phrases by suing by the notes of ragam- S R2 G3 P N3 S in select "Merukhand"- systematic permutation of swaras n sung few possible combinations of these swaras. Class indeed....best wishes.

Superb ! Raghunayaka Ragam: Hamsadwani (29th Mela Janyam) Deshadi Talam Thyagarajar Krithi
'Raghunayaka nee padayuga' is a composition of Sri Tyagaraja Swamigal set on Hamsadhwani raaga.
Hamswadhwani is a very popular raga which is prevalent in both carnatic and hindustani music. An audava raga ( 5 notes in arohanam and 5 notes in avarohanam)derived from the 29th mela Dhirashankarabharanam . This raaga is believed to be invented by Ramaswamy dikshitar, father Muthuswamy dikishtar.
Swaras taken by this raaga are shadjam, chatusruthi Rishabam, antara Gandharam, Panchamam and kakali Ni. A raaga that deletes Madyamam and Dhaivatam.
An auspicious raaga that is most suitable for singing at the commencement of the performance.
In this Krithi SrI tyAgarAja tells the Lord that he will never let go His holy feet.He says that Rama removes all our sins and helps us cross the sea of difficulties.
    Pallavi
    Raghunayaka ! Nee Paadayuga
    Raajeevamulane Vidajaala Sri !!
O Lord SrI raghu nAyaka! I (nE) shall not let go (viDa jAla) Your Lotus (rAjIvamula) feet (pAda yuga). I cannot leave your lotus feet, Oh Raghu nayaka.
    Anupallavi
    Aghajaalamula Baaradroli Nan
Aadarimpa Nive Gati Gaada Sri !!
Aren’t (kAda) You alone (nIvE) refuge (gati) for supporting (Adarimpa) me (nannu) (nannAdarimpa) by driving away (bAradOli) the multitude (jAlamu) of sins (agha)? therefore,
O Lord zrI raghu nAyaka! I shall not let go Your Lotus feet. You drive away my sins. You are my only solace.
    Charanam
    Bhavasaagaramu Daataleka Ne
    Bahu Gaasibadi Ne Marugu Jeritini
    Avanijaadhipaasruta Rakshaka
    (Aanandaakara) Saarvabouma Sri Tyagaraajanuta! !!
    Unable (lEka) to cross over (dATa) the Ocean (sAgaramu) of Worldly Existence (bhava), having become very (balu) weary (gAsipaDi), I (nE) reached (jEritini) your (nI) shelter (marugu);
O Consort (adhipa) of sItA - Earth-born (avanijA)! O Protector (rakSaka) of those seeking refuge (Azrita) (avanijAdhipAzrita) in You! O Lord who causes Bliss (Ananda-kara)! O Lord praised (nuta) by this tyAgarAja! O zrI raghu nAyaka! I shall not let go Your Lotus Feet. I cannot cross the sea of difficulties in this world, so I seek your shelter.
Oh Sita's husband, Oh savior of people, Oh bestower of happiness, you are worshipped by Tyagaraja.
    Gist :-
Oh One who is unique among all the Raghus! I will never release your lotus feet. Who but you can rid me of the accumulated sins and offer me shelter? Mundane life (the ocean of samsaara) is replate with trials and tribulations. To cross this vale of sorrow, I have come to you. O Lord of Seeta! Protector of those seeking refuge! Bestower of joy
Hamsadhwani - a raga that is bright and auspicious, one that is most suited for commencing a Carnatic concert. That probably explains why kritis in Lord Ganesha abound in this raga. This raga is well-loved and easily identified due to its distinctive charm that gets better when sung in Madhyamakala (medium-fast tempo). Hamsadhwani is a pentatonic scale ( audava raga) and the notes it houses include Sadja, Chatusruti Rishabha, Antara Gandhara, Pancama and Kakali Nishada. Hamsadhwani has its roots in the Carnatic form, and is said to have been created by Ramaswamy Dikshitar, father of Muthuswamy Dikshitar. The credit in taking this raga into the Hindustani system of music goes to Ustad Aman Ali Khan of the Bhendibazaar gharana. In its Hindustani form, the Kaisiki Nishada also appears sometimes lending texture and finer hues to the solid fabric of the raga.
Popular kritis in Hamsadhwani include ‘Vatapi Ganapatim’ and ‘Parvati Patim’ of Dikshitar, ‘Sri Raghukula’ and ‘Raghunayaka’ of Tyagaraja. ‘Vinayaka’ of Veeva Kuppier and ‘Vara Vallabha’ of G.N. Balasubramaniam have colourful sangatis that enthuse one and all. ‘Karunai Seivaai’ of Papanasam Sivan and ‘Gam Ganapathe’ of Muthiah Bhagavatar deserve mention.

      Very nice elucidation sir.
A point to note here is, some schools of thought espouse the following lyric in charanam: "Aananda Kara Shri Tyagaraja Nutha" instead of "Sarva Bhowma Shri Tyagaraja Nutha"
      Just for academic interest

@@mysuruvasudevacharya Such differences are very common sir. Sri Tyagaraja is believed to have composed approx 24,000 + songs out of which approx 900+ are available to us.
My intuition tells me that the songs recovered might have been from ancient written media some of which might not have been fully legible.
As they pass through generations subtle differences creep in.
But if you ask me, this version of charanam is refreshing to me as I am so used to the version I told about.
So when I am humming the song now, the phrase "Sarva Bhowma" sounds very nice :-)
      Good day!

@@arjunprasanna3464 Sir great ! Thyagaraja has composed many compositions and as of now I refer to Shri TK Govinda Rao who had done very good work in Recovering some ! Over the Years some people has distorted the Ragams also For Example the Song Nanu Kanna Thalli was composed in Ragam Kesari and it is twisted to Ragam Sindhu Kannada to avoid sone superstitious belef that Ragam Kesari is unlucky..Carnatic Music has become my Passion Thanks to the Personal Blessings of Chembai GNB and Santhanam Mama's around 55 years back..Though they offered to teach me I could not take the offer due to personal reasons..Passion Still Prevails..After Retirement around 7 years back I started concentrating on Carnatic music and now has a database of 500+ songs which includes complete analysis including Rare and Eka Krithi Ragas ! I am happy that rashikas like you inspire and motivate me..Yes I do go wrong sometimes and coarse correct it ! Stay Blessed

@@mysuruvasudevacharya Thanks for your reply sir. I am learning quite a lot from your experience.
In the context of so-called 'unlucky' ragas, I have seen a TH-cam user comment that raga Huseni is unlucky.
The song 'Rajan Maharajan' in the film 'Shyamala', sung by MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar is in this raga and was composed by Papanasam Sivan. The user had mentioned that persons well versed in this raga might have their life spans shortened, which I found hard to accept.
Considering the fact that the Thiruppavai pasuram 'Katru Karavai' is based on the same Huseni raga, it is difficult to digest that the raga can reduce one's life span.
So, as you rightly pointed out, these are mostly superstitious beliefs.
Looking forward to more such healthy conversation and learning from a senior person like you!
