People say Javier is a complete different person in RDR1 and RDR2 and this is a storytelling mistake. But I think this moment shows that's not the case, Javier has a blind loyalty, when you are loyal to the gang he respects you, when you are against the interests of the gang he shows the same personality that he has in RDR1.
True, at first i thought Javier was a coward and didn't want to oppose Dutch. But now I see that he's just extremely loyal to Dutch because Dutch saved his life.
The same can be said for Dutch. People said he changed. No, Dutch just showed who he really was. Dutch treated Hosea badly from Colter. They're supposed to be partners, but he certainly doesn't treat him like one. He doesn't listen to him, he yells at him when he's coughing or in pain, and he makes him sleep on the cold, hard, dirty ground. He even openly ignores him in Colter, in front of the other men, and rides off when he tries to stop him from robbing Cornwall's train. I'm not saying they don't have a rich history or good moments, but the bad moment overshadows the good. Hosea being alive in Chapter 6 wouldn't have changed a thing.
It’s amazing how when framed correctly, these camp interactions can look almost indistinguishable from actual cutscenes. Rockstar really cooked with the motion capture and facial animations in this game.
Or the face animators (actors) just did good at their job? Like why spend money, time and resources to make a character look better in a random encounter when you can reference how the actor behaves when they dot dot dot…. *Act*
@@Chineseisntalanguageapparently What point did you just attempt to make? They praised the motion capture which includes the actors, and it takes more than just good acting to pull off convincing motion capture. Seems like you’re arguing against a point no one made lol.
I remember being emphatic towards Bill and Javier on my first playthrough, similarly to how I felt about Smoke and Ryder. However after playing the game again I lost all sympathy for them; they chose their side and became real low-life scumbags, no better than Dutch and Micah. Between villains that I might have sympathy for, I honestly can’t believe why people have sympathy for Javier. I liked Javier and Bill, I loved Dutch as a deuteragonist-like character for Arthur, until I stopped caring about them. Bill, Javier and Dutch do not deserve any sympathy because they’ve become the absolute worst society at the time had to offer. At least Micah never denied who he was or claimed to fight for a righteous cause.
I feel sympathy for Arthur, Hosea, Lenny, Kieran, and Sean more. But the sad fact was while Javier may have cared for Arthur and John at one point he'd changed and became a monster. And that raises questions on the people who many people in the Red Dead community keeps saying that they would side with Arthur, namely Sean MacGuire. People need to remember Sean was friends with Arthur, but he also was very loyal to Dutch and gave excuses for what he did in Blackwater. And if Javier and/or Bill died instead of Sean and he sides with Dutch, people would have been saying they would have sided with Arthur. The truth is that's why I always consider Sean a 50/50 because he could easily have Javier's mentality in this chapter that they need to all stick together. Lenny, Hosea, and Kieran are 100% with Arthur because they either questioned Dutch or saw whenever he was lying. Bill, Javier, and Sean on the other hand... well, for the latter, it's difficult to tell.
Javier certainly respected Arthur (yeah, yeah - that raised gun scene), yet he owed Dutch and respected him more. For a lot of gang members, Arthur was Dutch's and Hosea's "golden boy" who could do dumb things and mistakes without being really punished for them in a way any other gang member would, so they became as suspicious about Arthur as Dutch was, disregarding his attempts to expose Micah - they probably thought that Arthur was just envious of Micah who basically took his place as Dutch's most trusted person. Hence the passive aggression Javier displayed towards Arthur and whoever supported him. When it had been revealed that Micah indeed was a rat, Javier was faced with a choice between being on the right side or stayin loyal no matter what. He chose the latter because he knew he already went too far. So, yeah, Javier is a tragic character that desrves sympathy. I agree on Bill and Dutch, though - they are dumb and cruel and psychotic and manipulative bastards, respectively.
I'm sympathetic towards them, they did change but I really feel like Dutch is the real monster. He manipulated them and turned everyone against each other under the guise of 'loyalty'.
@@RyanTheDark Agreed. Sean would’ve possibly aided Dutch. I think it’s safe to assume Lenny would, too. Lenny was intelligent but he was also likely naive due to his age. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that he would side with Dutch. Hosea wouldn’t though. I’m not sure about Kieran; he’d probably just run away before the gang fell. Kieran saved Arthur, sure, but it’s likely that eventually he gave Colm the gang’s location
it's ironic since javier ends up being the ultimate brainless bootlicker, doing whatever dutch wanted, no questions asked. imagine siding with micah and bill too, both racists who think less of javier lol
Javier didn't really sided with them. For the first time, he was doubtful of Dutch, so much that he doesn't point his gun to Arthur and John, he points it at the sky. He just sided with himself, using the bigger group of people for it.
Honestly I’ve always just saw Javier as blindly loyal, for better and worse. He was so loyal Dutch for saving his life that he was willing to do anything for the man, and destroy everyone who went against him. Despite this though, Javier was also immensely loyal to Arthur for all he had done for him. This is why I think it made sense that despite siding with Dutch in the end, Javier could not point his gun at Arthur during the final standoff. Javier held his up while everyone else pointed to kill. Javier also did not act as aggressively as he did here to Arthur despite Arthur having the same opinions as Charles. Javier was loyal to the core, like a blind dog. After the gang broke and Javier was left alone with nobody, not even Dutch, he lost all trust and sense of loyalty. He saw his gang betray and kill each other and he snapped. As RD1 says, he decided not to trust anything except money. Now, he just kills to whoever pays since nobody matters anymore. When encountering John you see Javier’s old love and loyalty slip out, but is just as quickly consumed by his greed and desire for survival as soon as John turns his back.
I really wish Javier didn't turn out the way he did. He was a really cool character, personally the encounters with him (fishing, bank robbery, a couple others) I found the most enjoyable, I really liked him as a character.
The fact Arthur said "Should've let him die in Guarma" really hit me for some reason. I never liked Javier that much but Arthur was extremely loyal to everyone in the gang.
